For example, I was following a thread in AoC about banning. Lots of points made by people, and a good line of discussion on what constitutes an exploit, and talking about the nature of the vendor-player relationship in the mmo genre.

Now the thread is locked. Who can I ask to find out why it was locked?
Shouldn't mods at least lock and make a post "this thread violates article X of the blah blah rules of the forum" etc ? Is there a way to PM a moderator and ask them why they locked it ?

Common sense?

but I agree a mod post would be nice
Granted, I'm an American.... probably not as smart as you Germans or anything. But the common sense is just not clicking in on this one...
well you are truley an air head
j/k
I am sorry for that post ... I am pretty tired right now but need to stay awake since I have a plane to catch. I wasn't trying to be a smartass. You are right Mods should explain why they lock a thread. This particalar thread however was such a flame war that I wasn't surprised at all.

typos
If I don't set my sights too high, I will not get dissapointed
But I sent an email to community@mmorpg.com... will see what happens.
As I said before, most bad threads just disappear on their own. When they get over 26 pages, somebody is saying something; and somebody else might want to hear it play out. Hard to see why such threads are locked, unless there is something more devious going on (like money under the table or something crazy like that). But that's hard to imagine happening as well, since this site is a great place to talk etc.
EDIT: don't be sorry... I pride myself on trying to be simple-minded and easy-going, hence the handle.
As for the thread, (and with most threads), there are usually 3-4 different lines of discussion going on. Granted, some lines might be bad flame wars, but do you lock a thread if any one of it's discussion lines is flame wars? Or do you just leave it open for the sake of the good lines of discussion? And if you are going to err as a moderator, better to err on the side of allowing all speech rather than error of possibly silencing good and interesting speech, right?
yeah .. I was reading it as well.
