A beacon of light shines fourth from the fog of the current MMORPG market. Attention all disillusioned players and those who are slowly slipping into insanity in anticipation of the release of WoW! Behold, I present you Anarchy Online! I was thrilled today when I logged on to discover Anarchy Online had tied CoH for top ranked game. I'm an avid supporter of AO and continue to respond to people in search of a new game with unwavering support of AO. I felt inspired by today's march up the leader board to once again give my favorite MMORPG yet another showing of support. This is the MMORPG to hold you over for the release of WoW or EQ2. Tired of games with ageing populations, and feeling like you will never catch-up to the majority of the player population? This game has gone through a low level character explosion, because of the 7 day trial, old players coming back after realizing that this is the best MMORPG, and experienced players creating new characters in anticipation of the Alien Invasion expansion. I can safely guarantee that if you play on the RK-1 server and choose Jobe as your starting location, you will never be without company no matter what time it is. Tired of MMORPG communities filled with the immature, the rude, and generally annoying masses? Watch as Anarchy Online's extreme learning curve swats down "those types" like so many flies. Anarchy has the best and most helpful community I have ever encountered. Everyone has passed over the Mount Everest learning curve and feels your paint and the joint confusion creates early camaraderie over the newbie channel. Like fantasy? Like sci-fi? Anarchy online has you covered on both! On Rub-Ki sci-fi fans will get their fill of gritty distant future high tech life. In the Shadowlands players are presented with a world that has been described as "more Everquest like". And if you are not forced to stay in either on, although I do suggest starting in Jobe in the Shadowlands. Character customization? AO has you covered. There are tons of base character models to browse through, but that is not even the tip of the proverbial "ice burg". It is utterly ridiculous to see how many different types of armor and "social" clothing exist. From business suits to post-apocalyptic armor you can look however you want. People often complain about generic character classes where you have no control of you characters development. Anarchy Online still uses the traditional means of leveling, however every time you level your skills do not automatically go up. Every time you reach another level you allot skill points to develop the skills you want to use. Implants and nano will further differentiate your character from others with the same job and level. Soloing, for me at least, has proven to be quite easy, and with missions terminals having a difficulty sliding bar you can actually pick how hard you want the fight to be. You like to explore? Anarchy Online is massive! On Rubi-Ki you can lose yourself in some of the cities, and unlike most MMORPGs you can actually see enough housing for massive populations. Some people complain about the movement and interface, but have never had a problem with either. I move around like I'm in a FPS "W" "A" "S" and "D" keys for forward, back, and strafe and the right mouse button to look around and change direction, and "0" on the numpad to auto run. Your just going to have to figure out the interface, but with the shortcut bar you should be playing this game like CoH in no time. Ok I believe I've come to a point where my message is going to be lost in a see of words.
In conclusion Anarchy Online is the best MMORPG on the market right now, perfect to hold you over for WoW or EQ2. The learning curve is actually a good thing, keeps the morons out. There is a 7 day free trial so you have lost nothing if you don't end up liking it. I believe once people begin to check this game out and give it the good rating it deserves and people finally realize that CoH has no real depth AO WILL conquer the leader board.

I don't have the patience to read a chunk like that, paragraphs would help out a bit
But I already play AO, and I'm just saying that if AI doesn't spice things up a bit, I'll probably quit.
The low levels of AO can be pretty fun, but around maybe 75-100ish you start noticing...grind grind grind hecklers hecklers hecklers grind grind grind. Seriously, from maybe 40ish to level 220, you'll probably be killing mostly hecklers and maybe mortiigs.
I hope for gods sake youre on their payroll.. And if youve been with the game long you know that AI will be a total bug-heap that wont be playable until the year after. This is NOT an overstatement seeing as anarchys release and the booster packs AND shadowlands was hardly half-finished when they came out.
If you want to read something, then check out the profession forums at http://forums.anarchy-online.com/ and see what the players themselves think of the game. Try to find one thread that doesnt have one player quitting in it, good luck... Oh, and dont forget to count the amount of threads the gestapo AKA Cz has locked.
AO is halfway deserted, except for the 7 day trial guys that perhaps stay a month until they find out why everyones leaving like a boat-full of rats on a sinking garbage-barge.
It could have been glorious, but then it turned sour... very sad actually
_______________________________________________________________________________________
Oh, players always whine about how they're going to quit. I seriously wouldn't take that as any kind of indication of quality. Message boards attract a certain percentage of whiny types who bounce up and down, demanding attention. "Wahh, I'm gonna quit" just leads to them playing for another year and a half, while making dire threats like "I'm really going to quit this time! I mean it!"
AO isn't too bad. Not the game for me, but it's pretty good.

First of all I'm not on Funcom's payroll. I think it is important, especially in the MMORPG community, to advocate the games you enjoy. Yes so far their record for releasing bug free is horrible, but according to a Funcom rep's post on this site they have learned from the past. So we will have to wait and see. As far as the professional forums go... yes there are allot of people complaining that there profession has been nerfed. My main is a crat so I understand this point quite well. But as far as your claim that people are leaving in droves, well I'll just leave it at.. I am unable to substantiate you claim. Cz does lock allot of threads, but most of those he provided and had good reason. I play on RK-1 and though the cities are not packed with people It's not like a ghost town. As far as the huge in flux of 7 day trial people, yes it will slow down and some will leave, but I guarantee that many will stay (until WoW comes out at least). Oh and btw I did see posts on the official boards from people who are returning to AO after being gone for some time. You can't deny that AO's experiencing a period of growth. I'm not saying AO is perfect, but it is the best MMORPG on the market IMO. However you are right on one point, if Alien Invasion is buggy and doesn't give the game a major boost the mass exodus will begin....
As somebody who DID quit, I promise we are all not just blowing smoke. Nothing they can do to AO will pull it out of the funk it is in EXCEPT to fix the bugs. Players are coming back, seeing it's STILL broke, and leaving again. Fix the rubber-banding, crashing, items disappearing and the doors that won't take you anyplace for a start, then I will play again.
I came back and played for about 3 months, and never encountered any bugs, or problems. It's a solid game, but I'm just plain burnt out on playing the same game with different skins for the last 5 years.

I was never what you wanted, I could never never please.
I swallowed all our sorrow in the midst of my disease.
All my fortunes, all my gains, all the battles I have won...
Now collapsing like the rain, I stand alone, your only son...
Take some solace in these words, take notice of this place.
Hollow whispers that they are, like the wind upon my face.
Sing softly in my ear and look at me with wonder.
I will try to ease your fear as the darkness pulls you under.
AO simply rocks!
Well, its the best mmorpg by now.....................ill play it until EverQuest2, Guild Wars or Matrix Online.
BTW................Omni-Tek rules
I played AO for two good years, which I think is pretty a long time to spend playing a single mmorpg. I did keep an eye on other products, but it took a good while until I found better ones.
Compared to, say Lineage 2, the AO level grind doesn't really feel nearly as bad, and you have a lot more variety in doing it. Certainly, when you're working on your nth alt, you'll go for the most boring and fast way to grind and it'll eventually kill the game for you, as the low levels is where everything interesting really is.
In the higher levels there's nothing but leveling, and excessive amounts of raiding in order to level 200+ and to get nice loot. Nothing. Else. But. Killing. A. Single. Mob.
FunCom could've fixed it, but for some reason they chose not to. For me, the only message was that they'd be doing the Alien Invasion expansion to keep the paying cusotomers in the game until they could publish something with a more competetive graphics engine, and there'd be no effort put into evolving the game.
Certainly, AO mechanics truly are among the best out there, but when it comes to graphics, quite a few titles have surpassed AO SL expansion quality a long time ago and quite a number of games offer a more interesting world. And as AO is one of the games with the most original settings, that's saying a lot.
Currently I play Lineage 2 just for the candy graphics (which I've already grown bored of) and EVE (which absolutely fabulous).
Anarchy Online:
-Great community
-Best Customer Service (ARK)
-Good graphics
-Great storyline
-Rubi-ka
-Flying Vehicles (yalmahas)
Darkmastersh is right, he mentioned great features of AO, but missed things.
Its bug-free
You can play it with a junk computer
Landscape in Shadowlands
Monsters in Shadowlands
Tower Wars
Crafting
Character creation
Great RP
Implants
Skills
AO is the best mmorpg
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PROBABILITY(YOUR STATEMENTS BEING MOTIVATED BY FEAR(I>U)) > .5
You could replace the AO with every other MMO title out there, and it would be the same. Frankly, pretty much every computer/console rpg ever could replace the AO in the sentence, and it would be true, aside from the virtual chatroom part.
Much like god, originality is quite dead, boss.

2 things I gotta disagree with, (1) Ao is not bug free but runs well, and they have done a great job tweaking out most of the bugs, (2) I would not say great story in AO, interesting history, and very spuratic story is more appropriate...
However, it's definantly one of my favorites out there if not my fav. It definantly has a great community, and for the dil who reffered to it as desserted, That games had more people I bump into then any other game. mind you in the open field your not liley to bump into people unless your hunting dynas, but still, the land of rubi-ka is vast and fun to explore as well as the shadow lands. I played AO on and off for about two years and finally quit just because I've tried every class and all my fav toons are at the painful point of the level grind. But had a GREAT org, and we always ran around with other great orgs. Not to mention recruiting players as hosts, and problem solver s in exchange for free accounts (thats what arks are, they have the ability to help you if your stuck and are always around for question) is great, cause they are always available. It's the only MMO company thats never sent me form mail. not to mention all members got 3 free keys asa gift for the 3rd anivessary that just passed. (I gave my 3 to player onthis site so they could give it a go)... not to mention it's got a more detailed ability system then I've seen in any other game. From the fact that anyone can use any trade skills but certain classes recieve easier training for different trades, not to mention an incredible character modification system that allows more detailed twinking then any game I've tried.
but that raises a good question. Rath, Corsair? what do you guys think of AO so far? if youve started yet
I have to agree
Anarchy Online doesnt have a whole lot of bugs
and plus their customer service is simply out of this world. Quite frankly I have never met another mmorpg industry even match AO customer service.
Its a tight game
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

yeah and some paragraphs
When writing a definition paragraph, you take a thing or an idea and explain what it is.
Example: Write a paragraph giving the definition of a pest
AO is great, SL on the other hand is, well not so great. I do not know what they were smoking when they decided to make a pretty decent SCI-FI game into some semi fantasy/ghost story.
Not day goes passed when I do not think what marvels could have been done if the effort put into SL had been developed on rubi-ka, made it even more sci-fi (like they are doing now no less).
Nope, SL ruined this game bad, not only because of the bugs, that were plenty on release, but it took away my immersion factor, a thing I had built up for 2 years prior to SL, and they just destroyed it in one fast blow. I hope they feel shame.
I am glad I got into beta for AI, I more or less had decided not to try AI at all, at least now I will get the opportunity to make a well founded decision.
Please oh pretty please funcom, shut down the portals to SL?

Yahooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (TM)
i won in AO AI beta........
as soon as i play it i will write a preview
About bugs (@Techpriest)
I've played this game since its launch 3 years back.
I haven't been rubberbanding since the first month. And no I don't rubberband in Adonis ocean, Penumbra or Inferno.
I crashed for a week due to a faulty vidcard, but apart from some random crashes like once a month (if that), that's about it.
I never had a item disappear. Not once. In three years.
I never had the black door problem except a few times when I played on a friends low spec computer.
AO doesn't seem all that heavy, but I assure you, if there is any stability problem in your system, AO will find it. There are plenty people complaining everything works fine but AO, only to find a bulging capacitator, a bad memory chip etc after some testing. The tech forums are full of these stories. I don't know what might cause a disappearing item, but there is a system now, to use in the rare occasion that one does. As for the rest of the 'bugs' that you mention: Get a good, error-free, stable system, and I'm certain at least your crashes and your black doors will go away. I hear some people saying that the SL rubberbanding is a server sync problem. All I know is I never had it.
In general, and with the exception of launch three years back, I have a bugfree experience playing AO every day.
Ex AO player, I played in beta and stayed for 8 months.. I loved the game however its hard for me to group ,solo is fun but you won't go places fast.. Lag in cities was horrid I did have items poof and getting help was a pain I got stuck in a cave with one character and waited hours to get released.. I even lost a character because I got tried of waiting for help.. There is NO call in support and you may wait several days to get a response to email support requests..and sometime you get the run around, this may have changed but I am speaking from my experieance in this world..
I liked the fact you could pick what types of missions and dungeons you could spawn , I liked the hidden room dungeons but they could of made them a little harder.. The learning curve in this world is terrible and they don't give good info so you can't really understand which weapons or nanos' you really want without going to third party websites .. I actually hate the fact you have to, and even the fact that you can , OE ( over equip its like twinking)if you don't do this many groups will kick you out or not take you. You need a third party program to figure out what kind of implants you need.
I did find the world compeling and I am very glad I got choosen for beta in AI if they have just fixed 2/3's of my negitives here I will come back. I loved the rain it would actually blow sideways in the wind awesome!
I would of come back I was planning to buy shadowlands but they were unwilling to let me have the 30 day free period that comes when you buy the game because I had an old account, if I spend the money to rebuy the game I should get what it says on the package!
ACCCKK!!! not me HONEST
Arks are players, not employees of funcom. Therefore you cant count them in as customer service...
It doesnt matter how friggin bug-free the game is at one point or another, cause here comes AI. They're so well known for their shitty releases that i wouldnt touch this game during a expansion release with a 5ly stick.
And as ive stated so many times before in these forums, with the cornholing the playerbase got during the release of SL which was 10% finished when it went gold, i'll never trust Funcom with my money ever again. When they do shit like increasing all the mobs health by 1000% in SL and deliberately removing quest-mobs from game so that the players cant move to the later playingfields and discover its just a wireframe with some gaffa-tape. I just get so freaking mad when thinking about it...

Dude,we been telling you for ages to make paragraphs.
No one is insulting you but honestly how many do you think read what you wrote.
It is unreadable and maybe 1 in 10 bothered to read it so your message is kind of lost.
I think you may have something intresting to say but most of us can't read what you wrote.Thats why people who use paragraphs get better response .Just friendly advise is all.
