I threw out my original EQ2 cds, Im downloading the trial now and hoping it to update accordingly. Whats great is that I was also upgraded to RoK, which I didnt have yet.
I might even try the old EQ just for fun since its got 54 days there as well.
I have it all downloaded etc. but I'm having a hard time choosing what to play as and where! Is there a newbie-friendly guild on a high population pve server that I would be able to join? I'd like to learn and make friends as early on as possible so that I enjoy the game more.

Hehe always has to be a catch somewhere
This is hardly a *catch*. I tried EQ2 once. I think I played the newb island and that was really it. Now I can login and play for almost two months for free and if I activate the account I can have the game for free and every expansion they've released.
Gee.. I wish more gaming companies would offer me this catch.

If they wanted to attract new players, they should have directed this campaign towards ppl who never played the game before. But they are giving free stuff to those who played and left instead. It's likely that most of those who plays the 60 days, won't subscribe after the time is up. Combine this with all those who threathens to leave EQ2 in anger, and I wouldn't be surprised if the subscriber numbers in August/September will be lower than they are today.
Its rare for ppl to just be sitting around the cities like in WOW. Even on high Pop servers theres almost no one sitting in the city jump around in circles because they are bored. Also depending on the time you log in plays a role on how many ppl are on.... most if not all the ppl i know in EQ2 work.
Nice, finally figured out what my old account was, and sure enough 60 days free play! Sweetness, as I wanted to give it another go, but didn't wanna subscribe and get into something with WAR on the horizon!
I'm a returning Vet (EQI and EQII) and have to admit I'm quite impressed. EQII has really come a long way and the changes really do make the game far more appealing. Its a shame more people aren't aware (newer players to MMO's) of EQII. I'm glad that SOE has created this promotion.

YA, 60 days of free play for us returning players...vets pissed that they don't get benefits...and meantime, we still have the same problem. What is that, you might say? Well, we got all these people coming back and none of us know which server to go to, and even if we get an idea here and there, it just spreads us out.
WE NEED ONE SERVER TO FLOCK TO, so that the experience is a good one. I logged onto EQ and EQ2 ran into like 1 or 2 people over 10 levels, bah.

I'd suggest to pick up any higher populate server to play than light, that way you wont have problems if you feel like jumping in some PvP action or even finding peeps to pair up if PvE is your thingy!

Don't you have a copy of the original game? It will update with all the new expansions when you start it up.

Ok i'm really crying at the patch time 31 hours? is anyone else getting this is this right this cant be right
So I take it if I sign up for a trial today, I would only get the normal 14day trial and not until the end of July?
Yep, this promo is for returning players. Anyone who had a full account or trial account that was in good standing and not active on April 30th.
The EQ2 patcher has always been pretty bad at estimating times. But it could be longer than usual due to the people taking advantage of this offer.
Yeah I had something like 7 hours and counting down consistently, now its up to 21 hours.
Could someone who has a completed updated EQ2 folder post its size?

do not panic.
Downloader told me smt about 30 hours, but reality was around 1 hour 30 minutes at 20Mb line..
But, i know why SOE did this. When ive logged my character, Freeport city @ Runnyeye was simply empty.
Only whos yet playing this game are hardcore raiders and "trial" newbies?
