Alright then,
1) A reasonable amount of hype. They are not trying to shove this in anyone's face, they aren't even trying to hype this up as much as they could. There are no insane expectations for this game. In whatever condition Spellborn ships, that's pretty much the condition that everyone expected.
2) It looks pretty. I know that it may not appeal to some, but the art style is really unique. Take a look at the screenshot slideshow. The lighting and textures look really well-done and I think the whole art scheme fits with the world and lore perfectly. It's different.
3) Sound. Remember that really old video (The first one they had posted here)? The attention to detail in the sound effects is really nice. Can't wait for this feature.
- However, the music is pretty much like any other game, and the combat sound effects need some work. (But go and watch some of the pre-launch WoW beta movies, they have crappy re-used sound effects too).
4) Hardly any emphasis on gear. THANK YOU! This is the biggest draw for me, because I am so sick of every MMO having a gear grind. I'm also sick of every MMO making you mix and match the worst-looking armor pieces just for a couple little stat bonuses. Looking like a deranged power-ranger so you can get +1 armor is not cool.
5) Combat. It's a little different from what we're used to (aiming and skill decks), but I think AoC proved that you can make a different combat system that can still be reasonably popular.
Does it have enough to be a success? (And by success I mean make enough money to maintain servers and keep producing content)
Does it have enough polish?
We will see...
Comments
Agree!
If they have enough content and polish, it will be a hit.
If they run out of funds though.. they need to market it smart, so it still can be a succes.
Something like, "First months are free!*"
* You have to pay a monthly fee, but you get everything refunded when the game is finished"
Isnt that a succes?:P
A lot of instancing....
Oh wait, that's not a positive.
But seriously, perhaps it is a positive thing. The more instances, the more content.

Guys please. If you don't know how instancing will be in TCoS, please don't start the topic over again. Not to be rude, but you both don't know how instancing is working in TCoS. Hardly anyone knows. But still both of you already have a opinion about it. Are you both able to look in the futur? Tell me, do I win the loto this time?

Why do you respond to my post? Don't you see I was just redirecting a possible side track on topic again.
Stay on topic please.

Is this game even close to release? I've followed it enough to know they wait for a few months AFTER the scheduled release to say it will take more time.
If it was not for DarkFall TCoS would probably be #1 on most peoples MMO vaporware list.
TCoS has beta program with real people participating, including yours truly. All the other relevant details on the delay can be found on the news section.
That makes TCoS a fair step above certain other titles
Playing: AC2
Played: UO, DaoC, Horizons, Ryzom, WAR, LotRO, Eve, VG...
Nothing will ever beat Darkfall in vapourware status. To do that they would have to have no beta test at all, only a promise of a beta test, they would also need to not show up at a single press event or show their game to anyone, they would obviously need to get rid of their publishers cant have that to contend with Darkfall ;p
Atleast these guys bother communicating with their community, and I personally would much rather wait 6 months than have a game that is as buggy as Age of Conan is at the moment, all that game needed was 6 months and it would be great. So it is a good thing these guys take their time hopefully it will pay off.
7) A pleasant community, so far.
8) A break with the holy trinity (tank / damage dealer / healer). Making finding a group less of an ordeal.
9) No trolls, no elves, no dwarves. Not a big deal for me, but some people seem to be sick of them.
10) No rush to release the game.

The only negative thing I can think of (and it's totally subjective) is that it's yet another fantasy title. Hopefully the game will live up to the expectations of the people that are waiting for it.
As for the number of servers, it doesn't matter. All it matters is one full server with a decent community. That's all it matters for a gamer to have fun.
Fantasy yes, but when you actually put a good story and don't spin off the elves and trolls and such it becomes much, much better.
Joking : )
But the biggest features for me in TCoS are the combat system, real realtime. AoC could have done that.
And the nice European mentality towards items and gear. No stats. You cant beat that. Now you play the game instead of trying to find the right gear all the time.
yeah it does I can see a crowd of 200k+ enjoying the game.
so it will make enough money to keep servers going and content flowing
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
