Dex, Str, Wisdom stats on gear have no effect. I mean come on? You release a game where the gear stats do NOTHING? How exactly do you "miss" something like this during 5 years of development?
Here's another good one, you post something for sale at the trader, and cancel it when it does not sell, then find you can't sell it to the vendor. It no longer shows up in the list of items you can sell. You just have to delete them to get rid of them.
Oh, and a number of items like rings for example, when placed for sale on the trader do not actually show up for sale.
How exactly do you "miss" stuff like this? The answer is you don't.
The game is simply not finished and Funcom expects us to pay them for the next year while they finish the game?

In before flames.
The sad truth is, this is becoming the industry standard. release an unfinished game and people will buy it, and a lot will keep playing till its finally finished.
AoC may turn out to be an amazing game, or it may end up just meh. A lot of people are taking the wait and see approach, which is the safest thing to do with any MMO.
You don't need to wait and see with Halo, or C&C or a final fantasy. I've never had the problem with my PS2, XBOX, N64, sega or old NES. with the odd exception (yes, there were a few HORRIBLE games back then, that wern't ever finished) I never worried if a console game would be finished when I got it. but its not just consoles. when i get my RTS fix i never worry about a games state, I look at reviews and see how good it looks, and never see "half the stuff isn't working".
Point is, you're going to get a lot of flack from AOC fans for saying this, because you ran into this problem with AOC. but its NOT an AoC problem. hear that? its NOT JUST AOC! its most of the industry. I'm glad WAR got pushed back... a lot (also sad) because i'm looking foward to the game. but i know it'll ship unfinished as well. hopefully not as bad as AoC, but i havn't seen a MMO launch in a long time that was.... what I would call finished.
Even if the bugs are gone, if promised features arn't in game for 6 months to a year later (I'm looking at you Lineage2) its still an unfinished game.

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
hey, at least they included the dance emote on the patch, you can't beat that
Ive always said this since the beginning, the day they start making Beta selection an idea to bring people on board to weed out bugs is the day MMOs will get better at release.
Right now having contests and paying for a subscription at file planet to get into a beta will do more harm than good. If you do it this way then you have people who want to play it just to play it. You no longer have a good ration of players and "researchers"
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Now look at what all this chaos has done to my lil' smilies! Welcome to MMORPGs! Its no excuse, but honestly you will find this with most releases (not the same issues, but issues non the less). If its fun enough for you then you play, otherwise there are other fish in the sea mate!
Cheers!
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
that is really sad, !@#$ing fanbois are the root cause of all this lazyness in the PC game industry, no wonder more and more are going the nindendo (read console) route
You are going to compare a SP game to an MMORPG?? LOL!
You are going to compare a SP game to an MMORPG?? LOL!
Actually, in this case it applies. If you release a half finished game it's bad form...be it single player or MMOG.
It's only accepted in MMOGs because people let it be.
Mne eto nado kak zuby v zadnitse.
You are going to compare a SP game to an MMORPG?? LOL!
No, I'm comparing the MMO industry to EVERY OTHER GAME INDUSTRY. If you were playing half life 2 and half the weapons simply.. didn't work, the last 20% of the game simply had no enemies, would you be happy? would you be on forums defending it? no, but because its an MMO its completley OK to you.You are part of the problem. You think because its an MMO its ok not to be as good as a single player game. I think MMOs should be just as good, that they should release a game with everything they say will be in there, not 80% of it saying "Its ok, we'll add the other 20% in a few months, keep paying us money".
But you can keep laughing. Your lower standards are your own and there is nothing I can do about that. But I don't want to change your mind, I want to change the minds of the people who run the industry.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
To OP
Yup, there are bugs and glitches but overall the game plays fine and they are working on making it better. Personally I would rather play this as is - with intention of it getting better - than to go back to any MMO I have played ... except pre-cu SWG.
"I don't give a sh*t what other people say. I play what I like and I'll pay to do it too!" - SerialMMOist
Go back play WOW and shut up!
There are bugs, a fair number as well, the travel system sucks bad... sorry, the lack of a travel system sucks bad.
I cancelled, but will probably go back in 6 months or so when the problems have been sorted out, because despite the problems, it has good graphics and a nice combat system.
Bottom line - They know they can get away with this kind of stuff with the PC crowd because there are so many Fanboi's etc who will buy it and play it no matter what state its in (this is not limited to AoC). The console crowd at large are ignorant of the practices that go on with PC based MMO's and aren't technically inclined so at the first sign of adversity, they will simply return the game or put it on the shelf. Basically, the PC release is the public beta that will help FUcom get the game into a releasable state for the Xcroc.
Its sad but true. FUcom have lied and lied and lied about this game from day 1. I desperately wanted AoC to be my next game, but between the deception and the type of game it turned out to be, it isn't. People are enjoying it and Im happy for them. Unfortunately, it doesnt change the fact that the game was released long before it was ready.

When is a any mmo every finished though. I already accept the fact when new mmorpg's are released, there are going to be problems from the get go, but I can live with it. I just got this problem where I have to be in a new release MMO on day 1.
What I can't understand is why people (knowing this) go and buy the game anyways, then bitch and complain and call it quits. Ok I can understand if you did'nt research the game and bought it on a whim. But we all here are pretty much experienced mmo players, we know there are going to be situtations that suck at launch day. People should just take the intiative and wait 3 to 6 months after launch.
let me sum this up.
In MMO development, you run into all sorts of issues. No two systems are the same.
There is definitely not enough smart beta testing going on, it's mainly fans who want to play now.
Players scream and yell for better graphics, and devels believe that this is really what they need to concentrate on. so they find game mechanics that are tested and true and slap new textures on em and away they go.
More time needs to be spent on engine development and creating the tools to allow creative people to create content.
But this isn't even the elusive MMO grail
What needs to be implemented is systems where players are allowed to create content and shape the world.
I mean cmon, the last MMO's to do player housing were some of the first ones on the market.
All the time in Dev is spent creating pretty things and on making content.
No one is focusinfg on the RP of MMORPG
and everyone forgets about the "player" that xomes after "multi"
honestly, this genre is lost
Yes, but the OP's opinion is based on facts and that is that you may post things on the trader to sell and nobody can buy them because they do not show up. If you remove them they cannot be sold to a vendor, because they are not visible for sell. This was actually caught in beta and it was supposedly fixed and yet here it is in the commercial version of the game.
sounds like your just whining about a few little things. It is just a game chill out.
There is not Utopia in real life and there isn't one in virtual game play either.
I've played decades of PC games, most of which are all linear (completed on sale) games. *yawn* BORING!
MMORPG is an ever changing virtual world. MUDDS in a 3D world... it's absolutely amazing! I can't imagine that anyone who has been around since ZORK II would complain about how an MMORPG isn't worth buying or playing because it's not finished. As it was pointed out, MMORPG are NEVER finished until the developer decides there just isn't enough players to keep the game going... just like D&D.
nooooooooooo it's their life... you can't take it away from them...
I think things like graphical glitches, or auction house glitches, or things like that are acceptable after a game releases.
However, things like the stats on gear having no effect is unacceptable to me. While it will get fixed. It's been a week since launch, and that's something that greatly affects gameplay.
If this is true, then no wonder people have been saying that gear doesn't matter in the game. I think we need to draw the line with how MMOs are released. And when they're released with very basic core things broken, there's a problem.
The funny thing is all the responses that try to silence all of these people that have complaints with the game. There's so many people with complaints that I think all of you that love the game in spite of its flaws should lighten up and let them speak, because the rest of us want to hear both good and bad before we spend money on a game.
Thanks OP for posting your issues with the game. Hope you find the game for you, or come back to this one after these things are fixed.

It's up to us "the customers" to set the standard but as long as all the shitheads pre order collectors edition without even knowing if the game will be playable at release we will have the same SHIT from every new mmo.
Don`t blame the companies...Blame yourself
In the land of Predators, the lion does not fear the jackals...
This just won't happen. How many pre-orders does the CE edition of WAR has?
Yeah, and when WAR turns out to be as buggy and unfinished as nearly every other MMO at release, all the people who were sucked into believing it to be the second coming and bought it on day one will be on here posting about how the "fanbois" ruin it for everyone else.
I'm playing Conan at the moment, but I went in with very low expectations and it's exceeded them. It still has problems though.
To the people who feel personally hurt by the problems new MMOs have I would suggest you get a job, get a girlfriend, get a life and get a sense of perspective.
They built a great engine and good looking world but they never got around to making the game that goes in it.
This is something that I haven't thought of. I think you're right Sharkypal, it makes sense, and thats what happens.
After AoC I am now a lot more sensitive to these things, I doubt I am alone. People who have made pre-orders can cancel them, and/or never pick them up.
