I am six weeks into LOTRO and the game keeps getting better. Regarding PVP in an MMO, the two do not mix for many reasons. If I want to experience PVP excitement I either play an FPS, RTS, or some other game that actually requires skill to win not time spent leveling or farming gear.
Guildwars was the closest to skill based PVP in an MMO we have experienced because the DEV team basically removed the factor gear had on a fight. The expansions later ruined that formula, but at release GW was the best MMO PVP I've experienced.
PVP also tends to attract every 12 year old ganker within 1000 miles of a Gamestop.
So basically I play LOTRO because its the absolute best PVE experience you can have in an MMO. PVP doesn't work in an MMO. Therefore LOTRO is the best.
Yeah, I must admit, your title work is not good. I thought for sure this would be yet another post bashing the less then 1 month old Conan (which I'm playing and loving!)
I must say, if you don't like it, you don't like it. I reards to eq2 and Vanguard, I have played them both for over a year. Both are great games, but in terms of pure content and polish, you have to go with eq2. Not polish as in the game engine, as the game still does not run as well as it could, what without dual core support and such, but it runs well enough. If you buy RoK, you get it all. You won't quickly run out of things to do, and as long as you pick a popular server, you'll have plenty of people to play with.
Vanguard will eventually be a great game. They have just added, or will soon be adding race specific mounts and overhauling the character models. The game still plays and feels unfinished though imo.
I'm taking advantage of SOE's Living Legacy promotion and have returned to playing EQII. I have to admit I'm quite impressed. I played the beta for a few months and played live for about 4 months. After four years the game still feels new and I've really liked the changes thus far that they have made to the game (far less micromanaged). Its also nice that I'm able to enjoy playing it with my guild. Starting from scratch without a guild would have been a little challenging.

If you like a game that has no challenge and like be lead by the hand, AoC is for you. Oh, and by the way, don't level past 50 just yet as they just conveniently forgot to include much content after that point. Yeah, I know it is hard not to go past 50, you level so fast in that game.
Hey if you like AoC, more power to you, just that most of us are looking for something more in a game. Besides being new, I don't think there is anything AoC does better than any other MMO out there and there are a lot things it does worse in my opinion. Might as well reactivate my Wow account if I was that bored.
All I can say is I hope Funcom has plans for server merges because they will need them soon.
This is what became of all those World of Warcraft players (and presumably other games too) that quit for AoC because WoW (or whatever other game) "sucked".
Dear fanboys: Whenever a remotely negative post about your favorite game comes up, do us all a favor and fuck off. Seriously, there is no reason why a guy can ask for advice about a different game to play and get a thread nearly entirely consisting of replies of why the game he doesn't like is great.
To the OP: If you're looking for a game with some decent roleplaying, I'd recommend FFXI.

Jesus he wasnt even slagging the game off, he even said it just wasnt my cup off tea, leave it at that.

It's like people think they are personally being insulted if someone doesn't have the same interests (and rose colored glasses ) that they do. As long as the criticisms of "your" game are well written and not overly confrontational, let bygones be bygones.
To each their own. Some say "TomAto" some say "Tomato." Live and let live. Follow your own path. etc.etc.

Did you read your title?
yeah, was just a title. my mistake to think poeple would read the post.
The title is suppose to be what you are posting about. Since it is short, it should be concise and accurate to the post's content.

I wish you luck in your choice!
I don't love the people who use them either. Especially when they make intentional inflammatory threads.
