Always ending up in EQ2: THE most solid MMO currently out there

I have to say I completely agree with the OP.  EQ2 is the only MMO to really capture my attention for an extended period of time, and I'm actually still playing as my main the very first character I ever made in the game (Nihilanth on Blackburrow, created December 25, 2004 at 11:07:35 AM).  I truly believe EQ2 is the best MMO on the market right now, and personally it's the most solid one I've ever played.

I've quit numerous times for various games like WoW, FFXI, Vanguard, some others, and most recently AoC, but like the OP, I always wind up coming back.  I'm not saying that any of those other games are bad; they just dont give me the same feeling EQ2 does.  Something about EQ2 has always made me love it, and I don't think I can quite put my finger on what that something is.  I think it's a mixture of the community and friends I've made over the past 3 and a half years, the always-advancing gameplay and updates that (for the most part) have consistently made it better, and the pure nostalgia of the first year or so after the game's release.  Plain and simple, it's just fun to play.

What scares me is the game's future.  The releases of recent games have really eaten out of EQ2's already low-ish populations, and I really think the servers are in dire need of another merger.  It's not something most people like to hear, but for the sake of the game as a whole, I really think its necessary.  I don't want to see EQ2 die, at least not until something comes around that I feel really lives up to it's potential.  I would absolutely love to see a new influx of players and the game grow more and more and more, but sadly I don't quite see that happening.  I'm not by any means saying the game is dead (before anyone says I am); I'm just saying that I'm not really sure it's growing anymore, so it needs to consolidate the population is already has.

It's going to be a sad day for many when EQ2 is eventually turned off, however far in the future that may be.  Looking back over the past 4 years, I've played a lot of awesome games and had a lot of fun on many of them.  But when I really look at it, the most fun I've had in front of a computer screen in a very long time has been with EQ2 and the people I've met playing it.

Schutzbar - Human Warrior - Windrunner Alliance - World of Warcraft
Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II
    XBL Gamertag - Eagle15GT

Yer right vista sux, there are issues atm on the 2 live gamer servers, but aside from that i can run on extreme quality  with little to no lag on other servers, you may want to check yer system or get rid of vista,

Thank you for your sophisticated opinion, but I like Vista and I have no problems using Vista with any other game I like (VG, Lotro, DDo, Gothic3...) The OS is more secure, more stable, runs better, looks better, more features ... It's EQ2 issue that is unable to cope with a new OS.

Sorry, but EQ2 runs at highest settings for me with Vista and 8800gtx

You cannot level up for shit in the 50s and 60s w/o a team, and that is crappy to me.

EQ2 has run fine for me on various crappy computers, so i would not blame EQ2 for your crappy performance.

what part of mmo game was not clear? that this is actually a mutliplayer game... what's the point playing multiplayer game alone? that's seriously boring then you can play games like Oblivion instead which is also a great game if you like doing stuff alone.

Imo I like the fact that mmo is about team play... if not the mmo fails for me, but then again maybe people are looking to play a game with thousands of people and go solo...

I agree with the OP as well I've been trying many different mmo's since I 1st played EQ2 but they never really manage to catch me as well as EQ2.

EQ2 has it's flaws as all other mmo's but still the flaws are minimal compared to most other mmo's and the player base is not l337 players... as in other countless and famous mmo's.

EQ2 is not the best mmo I've tried but the one that keeps on going and going... I will probably be off and on when I got time to play.

The reason for having a solo option in an mmo is because it only takes 1 player out of 5/6 to trash a group with crap talk.

It is for this reason that I left WoW, about 90% of the groups I was in had that one person who liked to blame everyone else for playing a game that has a possibility of being slain by monsters. Lame huh?
