Me again, this is my third thread. You probably know by now I love this game and if I'm not here trying to shed some light to newcomers through the dark, I'm playing AoC.
Right now, I've reached high enough levels to know what I'm talking about and I've been playing mmo's, and their launches, for years and years.
Basically, the haters make the following points.
1. Their computer can't play it well.
2. Lack of content 40 to whatever.
3. Instances.
4. Linear game. (I've only heard this a few times)
5. Bad customer support.
First, number one. This.. is completely irrelevant. Developers will continue to cater to low-end computers and some will cater to decent and high-end computers. That's a GOOD thing. There's something for everyone. Complaining about quality graphics games is like complaining developers are making games for someone other than just you. It's selfish.. and I really wish people would keep their posts on this topic to questions and tips and helping others meet req's instead of whining that FunCom didn't make their game specially just for your crappy computer.
Number two. I personally haven't encountered this at all, but I'll bite. It's a new release and FunCom recently came out and recognized this concern and have voiced that they are working on more and new content and are going to implement it very soon (expect it to be a month or two after what developers predict when it comes to upgrades). There's really nothing to worry about.
Number three. I read a lot of books, and it doesn't bother me when the story moves quickly and doesn't crawl through every step from location A to B. Maybe that's why instances don't bother me. I have an imagination and when I speak to the "wagoneer" about hitching a ride to some town or land or outpost, I'm thinking about it during the load screen. I guess that makes me a geek.. but that's just me. On the plus side, I don't have to run through generated repetitive mush. I don't see why you haters love it so much. I mean, sure.. the first time, but it gets old and wastes time just guiding your character with auto-run. The zones are so big I can't imagine haven't to run through them and connector pieces.
Number four. I don't see a way to avoid what AoC is doing, and what WoW is doing.. depending on what your level is, certain lands are prime for certain levels. I remember going from one place when I reached a certain level to another place and so on in WoW, and it's about the same variety, or options for each level (I think more), for AoC.
Lastly, number five. THE GAME IS REALLY EFFING POPULAR. They're working on it. Chill.
Newcomers to the forum.. wait it out to the buddy passes if you're unsure.. but do NOT pass up trying this game just because of the hyperly paranoid and completely dense criticisms here. The fact is, most people love this game but they're too busy playing it to visit these forums (except for me, of course).

Thank you....just thank you. Thank you for telling these people some common sense, and showing true about AoC....thank you.....
Why did you feel the need to post 3 seperate threads about the same thing? Sure, you can argue that there's so many other negative threads out there, but they're not all started by the same people.
Not the same thing, and why do you care? :P
yea, the game is great when you can play it.
i'm shelling out about $2200 to upgrade my desktop and laptop.
big chunk of change for some entertainment? not really. MMO saves you a bunch of money on bookers and hookers!
Check out Elikal threads 6 in a few days all about the same thing. Then there is Zorndorf, who cant help put post the same thing on nearly everything thread in the AoC forums here.
Indded, what if you need to upgrade your puter? won't you have to do it sooner or later? Even more important, if you can't affort it now, wait a bit longer... the bug # will reduce and all the crying babies will drop and stop trying to avoid people fun...
Indeed. "People who dont like AoC are dense." What a strong and totally heavy slap in the face for us that have not fell in love with Funcoms latest..uh..game.
I really dont know at all how to respond. You sir, is a genius and you win, hands down.
For those who are having problems with their lower end machines, Curse.com has a gui mod that adds some advanced options to the graphics panels....allowing you to tweak things like particle density, etc.
Even if you're not having performance problems, and maybe have an uber computer, but want the game to look even better than intended, you can grab this little mod and enhance your visual quality.
OP: most of the crap that people complain about in regards to AoC is completely unfounded. I'm willing to bet that half of them didn't even play past level 5, if they own the game at all.
Thank you. Something actually helpful and good to say about the game. Instead of the 101 critism post. I hope this inoformation can help me get a little bit more bang for my buck.
Let me paraphrase....You like the game and people who say negative stuff about it are stupid. Geeze, how insightful.
There is a post for people with ATI cards stickied on AOC's official tech forums that is over 500 posts long now. Many of these users have very nice computers so the game does not run great for everyone despite having a decent rig.
And you read a lot of books. Yeah. I read on average 1 to 2 novels a week for a few years while in college. That easily adds up to hundreds of books. I also wrote a book of poetry, self published and did the poetry circuit in town, and I am a realistic figurative sculptor. I have plenty of imagination. I still don't like the wagoneer.
There is a theory that it is the way ATI handles occlusion culling, and from my own experiments, I have to agree.
I said 'many ati users', not every, just to clarify.
There is another theory that ati cards are being underutilized, about 40 % many are citing. My performance is steady on lowest low setting or fully maxed. I am thinking this is a AOC issue because other games I am playing run fine and changing graphical settings in those games increases or decreases performance appropriately.
All of your points are true.. The problem we mostly have with AoC is not any particular one of them, though people will latch on to one point or an other to justify to themselves that feeling of lack of satisfaction with the game.
Mostly its because we were expecting a full mmorpg world, not a hack n slash diablo game. Which game type is just fine for those of you who like that sort of thing. The rest of us will wait for the next title or go back to full mmorpg worlds that already exist.
So, if I play the game and enjoy it, why would I post counter-points to your thread. Because I'm a hater and a troll of course.
Seriously, some people have issues with the game, and their issues and concerns are worthy of discussion on these forums.
What I can't figure out is why you decided to create this post, does Funcom pay you to do it? Cause that's the only way I'd go around starting a thread such as yours.
Its a game, I play them, I don't have a 'stake' in them, and really could care less if anyone else likes them or hates them.
But I do like to post on forums.

with ATI cards one of the main solutions many of the closed beta players used was to switch off cool 'n' quiet in the BIOS as it seemed to interfere with the graphics card when running processor hungry games like AoC, also let windows manage your virtual memory swap file so it can dump more of your precious memory into running the application, There was a massive memory leak issue in beta which to a large degree has been solved, however some lower end spec computers still run into this issue.
I wouldnt say I hate conan, nor do I love it for me Funcom just have not done enough and it seems to be nothing more than a "moderately good" mmo than a true engrossing journey that you will remember fondly like the days of old.
I stick with the game currently because for me, theres nothing worth playing really, blizzard have ran out of ideas and are content with "copy and pasted" reuse style grind out content to keep its players and games like DaoC and EQ2 are falling into heavy decline due to there age and rotting communities.
For me as with many I'm hoping that either Funcom have gotten there act together and given the players real content to get there teeth into and resolved the customer service issues, or that WAR is actually going to be a title worthy of the hype.
I remain skeptical of both however, Funcom had a bad habit of not listening to the BETA players during the closed phases and are paying for it in kind now (they were warned time and time again about the over-instancing and lack of group content), Mythic...albeit DaoC in its original incarnation was probably one of the best games ever have stumbled from failure to failure with there horrible expansions of grindy content (ToA) and outright ripping there community to pieces (the introduction of solo instances, and clustering causing the birth of xrealming which brought about the death of the main draw....Realm Pride) but Mythic do seem to listen to players to some degree and I have yet to have had a problem with there Customer Service.
So for now I'll follow the age old saying "I wont believe it until I see it with my own eyes"
Dispite the technical issue's people have in AoC i wonder why we see similair issue's with a game thats much older ....just saying........

For anyone who took the time to look at each of those blizzard help forums, through Recklaws lame ass attempt at trying to say WoW has similar issues....
I think you ill find that in 90% of the cases a blizzard emplyee helped those individuals IMMEDIATELY!
Usually blizzard tech support is the second poster on the topic, if not blizzard answer will shortly follow the question asked.
This is a practice Funcom doesn't seem to give a crap about at this time.
Also 9/10 of those blizzard post are due to user error and not a game related technical issue. The blizzard employee simply helps a dumbass configure his pc correctly.
So yeah, I still see a huge difference in AoC problems and WoW's problems.
Is there NO MODERATION on these boards??

Agreed, no one should read ANY reviews ON ANY FORUMS EVER about this game. Just try the game and if you don't like it don't play. But people really really exagerate a lot when it comes to this game, so when someone dislikes the combat system and says "The combat system is TERRIBLE!" translate it to: "The combat system is different and takes some getting used to"
Actually people get general ideas of what a game is like from reviews....IF the review tells the truth, I have told the truth and pulled no punches in my un-biaste review and told it AS IT IS!
so I would say yes read reviews, but if the person is just being overall negative and is just trying to turn a molehill of a fault into a mountain of doom, disregard the review entirely, however if the person isnt pointing out any flaws and seems to be just praising and avoiding pointing out mistakes, disregard that one too.
No game is without flaw, and only people that review a game fairly are worth your time reading.
Exactly. Theres a lot of people out there that are really overly critical. I know theres problems but it hasn't even been out a month yet and to listen to some they expect everything to work perfectly right out of the box. If you've been playing mmo's for awhile then you'll know thats never the case for any major mmo. Its the nature of the beast. I defy anyone to point out an mmo that was absolutely perfect upon release. AoC, from my perspective, has had a very successful launch, but not without its fair share of problems too. The game is very playable, the servers seem stable (I've have yet to crash) and most features seem to be working as they should (notice I said most). Most of the problems seem to be related to the fact that Funcom wasn't prepared for how popular their game would be. They claim to be in the process of fixing customer service and technical issues, and I'm willing to give them some slack for now.
My best advice to anyone thats on the fence is to either wait a month or 2 before buying it or, better yet, have someone send you their buddy pass and use it whenever it becomes available.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
Regarding your explanation of instances, why is everyone who don't like them AOC heaters by default? 'run through generated repetitive mush' lulz, with or without instance you will run through 'generated repetitive mush' like in every other mmo out there.
You just need to accept fact that there are people like me who simple cant see anything attractive in AOC and will not going to change it for hot summer. I don't need to 'read a lot of books' to know that genuine topless looks better than those 'generated repetitive' from AOC. Ofcourse, best luck and good fun for those who enjoy playing AOC atm.
