right now i have an old pc that i will not be able to upgrade anymore other than video card one more time. Is it worth it to upgrade the video card one last time( cause i have no intentions of building a new pc soon).

my system:

AMD 3000+

2gb ram

ati x1550 agp

I've seen a ati x800gto agp for sale for 100 bucks and that would be the last time i would put hardware in the old girl

also the x800gto is only a 2.0 shader version would that be good for most games right now like vanguard,eq2,AoC,warhammer,etc...

I doubt if your system is going to run anything new beyond slide show mode.  New AGP card or not.

Do the free trial of EQ2 and crank up the settings to near max.

If you cannot play EQ2 at that level, nothing other than WoW (a good game, imho) will be running well on your system.

Certainly NOT AoC, V:SoH, or WAR.

so you think the cpu will drag the system down to much for a better video card to make a difference?

Agreed with this post. You MAY be able to look into an AGP radeon 2600, but probably will still not run Vanguard, War, or AOC. You may be able to look on toms hardware site or something to see if there are any reviews with the 2600 card, and playing some of the latest games. Couldn't hurt to check! Good luck!

I don't think any system in the PCI / AGP world is going to be able to run AoC, V:SoH, WAR with any kind of framerate.   Your really need PCI-E and Dual Core w/4meg for AoC and friends.

But like I said.  Get the FREE trial of EQ2 and use it to benchmark your system.  You need to be able to run it 3/4 max settings to have a shot at AoC and friends.

    Good Hunting

You can get an AGP version of an ATI 3850. It's like $200 though. Best card you're probably gonna get for AGP.

I'd probably just save my money and build a new rig though.

Spending more than $100 on that system isn't worth it. Just save up.
