Its really naive to think a miracle patch will solve most of the issues in this game, why wasnt the content in at the beginning? They had 5 years to come up with things to do.
Agreed, if they had the content it would be in game, they have pretty much proven they won't hold out stuff of game cause it's "still being polished".
On a side note, am I paranoid in thinking that maybe the Chinese Programmers they hired spent the 5 years farming WoW Gold instead?? www.funcom.com/wsp/funcom/frontend.cgi
This is from the official forums, a letter from the game director: Fellow Hyborians!
As you may have noticed we have had frequent patches the last two weeks. We hope this will soon start to quiet down, but as long as there are major issues – and there have been – we will dedicate the Conan team to fixing them and giving you these fixes as soon as possible! We have a plan on how to move this game forward because as you know, what you have today is but the platform – the dawn of this world. I hope you enjoy the game as is, but I can ensure you, this is but the beginning!
Our focus from now on can be summarized by these points:
We will add content, specifically in mid-late thirties and mid-late fifties and make the leveling speed smoother in those areas, reducing the need to grind. We will have an overhaul of the PvP system – adding consequence and a host of small things. We are fixing bugs you reported through all channels we can get information from. We will add a new large outdoor region in the 55-60 range this summer! This is only a small taster! More information about the exciting summer and fall Roadmap will come the end of the next week! We are staffing up Customer Service, Quality Assurance and Community departments!
1. Filling “thin areas” in our content
We have seen that there are certain level ranges of these Hyborian Adventures that do not have the amount of quality we wish them to have. Most specifically these are the end of the Thirties and the end of the Fifties level ranges. We are addressing this in several ways.
Several mid-late thirties dungeons are getting a complete overhaul (Black Castle, Pyramid of the Ancients and Treasury of the Ancients) Several quests are being made fuller and more entertaining. If people wish to revisit these quests, we will add a system to let them try them out again. We are adding first a batch of quests in Eiglophian Mountains (lvls 55+) We are also adding in a bunch of quests that didn’t quite make it for launch in the 30+ areas. Around 60 quests through the game have been flagged as “Lore Quests”. They will now be patched out with full Voice-Over. (Roughly 1 quest per level after level 20)…
2. Overhauling the PvP System
People like our open PvP system. There are many plans on how to give this open free PvP even more meaning and Purpose. In the meantime we will be doing some smaller tweaks, and we plan to get these out sometimes in June. I will not go into 100% detail here, but that will come next week! What I can promise is:
An update on how sneaking and perception works in PvP (nothing major, but an adjustment). A change in the amount of information you get when you hover over an other player. An added system of consequence to “ganking”. (Killing much-much lower level players). A system of adding consequence to losing a PvP match, and winning a PvP match + turning on PvP Leveling. A change in how Crowd Control (Root, Knockback etc) works in PvP. PvP gear.
3. New Massive Region
We will unveil this location later, but it will feature a host of quests, new monsters and places of dreams or horror. It will be styled towards the players in the late 50s and bridge the experience on the way to Atzels Approach. We have plans for releasing several of the areas that didn’t quite make it for the release.
4. Fixing bugs and increasing Customer Service
Funcom has always prided ourselves with having great customer satisfaction. The success so far for this title has left us with the need to increase the size of CS. This will go in parallel with the constant fixing of bugs and other issues that lead people to petition. Included in this is even better testing of the game by increasing the size of Quality Assurance and informing you better about changes by staffing up the Community Department. I know a blurb like this will haunt me always, but I will still venture one: We aren’t satisfied until all our customers are! You know we had a very, very difficult launch of Anarchy-Online! That was a very painful process for all of us working on it – 4 years. You might not understand how driven we are to make sure you enjoy this game, and all the support around it!
The future is very bright for Hyboria. There will be many bright mornings following this, the very first. Together we shall surge ahead and build the world even bigger, better and more detailed!
Please feel free to visit the official discussion thread here.
Yours truly,
Gaute Godager
Game Director
Age of Conan, Funcom ... So, what will you guys have to complain about now?
what i have to complain about is...
1. it should have all been in there before the game launched.
2. they ARE NOT going to have all this stuff done by the end of the month. where does it even say that. (oh yeah, it doesnt)
AoC is fun for what it is. If they fix all the problems, I owe them a cookie of their choice.
That is what a smart company would have done. O wait, wasn't WAR a contender at the same time? Wait weren't they smart enough to hold back so they could beta longer?
How about making the loot worth something? Ya that one kinda flew past there head, more garbage drops ahoy!
It's great they are trying to fix what they pushed on everyone, obviously it shows the game should have been pushed back. Saying they didn't have a choice is a crock of shit, they are Funcom they are not new in the business. They will not get pushed around by investors as easily as start up companies do. They knew they needed more time, they choose the extra buck and it shows with a buggy game, a shitty handling of open beta and grasping every possible cent they could by nickle and dimming you for bandwidth that other companies give out for free.
It'll be a couple months till its polished and high level content gets purged. Which reminds me I believe the lvl80s are probably about ready to leave. You can only stand around in Hyboria for a short while before you realize what the hell am I doing here.
[[ DEAD ]] - Funny - I deleted my account on the site using the cancel account button. Forum user is separate and still exists with no way of deleting it. Delete it admins. Do it, this ends now.
OOO another "miracle" path to fix everything that is wrong with AoC......history repeats itself.
No a patch that deals with issues players have. Its the best funcom can do. And there is an official thread from Tarib on the forumsasking what people want to see fixed/impoved.
So far they've been very fast with problem solving, which makes the game developer's letter more believable than it would otherwise had been. (I probably messed up my English there, my apologies)
So far they've been very fast with problem solving, which makes the game developer's letter more believable than it would otherwise had been. (I probably messed up my English there, my apologies)
They have been fast, but also introduced more problems with it. For example, the buff bugs. (nothing wrong with your english)
LOTRO when it first launched did not manage to immerse me in the world. Part of it was due to the bland directX9 graphics. The later update to directX 10 turned the game around and gave much credit to the world of middle earth, as presented in the game.
EVE directX 9 and directX 10 clients are night and day in difference. The game has been out for a while now and the update infused some well needed fresh air into it. Unfortunately for me, the lack of avatar was my greatest immersion break (totally personal point of view, ships are the equivalent of armor while the players are represented by the pod pill).
WoW is totally outdated. Not as outdated as AO, but still so old that they break my immersion in the world (Blizzard violating the lore in any way imaginable is another issue of course).
This is the 2008 so the games that want my subscription money better look like they were made with today's technologies. Arcades were fun when I was young, but you would need to pay me to play them now.
I agree with the required polishing. They still have a long way to go before they establish themselves in the "succesful over time" side of the MMO field.
It is a personal opinion. You don't have to share it with me, if you so wish
I think you'll have to wait for WAR to launch, since these games share a similar artistic background. By the way, I never disputed the artistic style or how the characters blend with the world. In fact, that was the thing that drew me most into the game, when I made the choice between that and EQ2 (back when the two games launched).
WoW needs a revamp. The developers know it and have plans for it. Unfortunately they placed that revamp in the expansion after the Lich King (so it will take a couple of years to see the light). Since the developers have plans for a revamp, I don't see the reason people being defensive about it. It is planned and it will come. It'll just be one expansion too late (for me).
sees such messages to the commubity on nearly any mmo launch when the game launched unfinished(and nearly all of them did launch unfinished).
only very few of them managed to deliver what they posted in the time they posted so i personally don't put too much in this statement. if they deliver these fixes while i am still having fun in the game then they probably won me as subscriber, if they don't deliver before the game looses its fun for me then i will unsub and probably not come back later.
Reading between the lines... FC know they released too early, they are losing tons of subscribers, and are having trouble deleting the negative posts on the forums fast enough to keep up.
You people need to get over the fact that the game was released too early. I'm a pretty patient guy; if they can fix all or most of the problems the game has in a reasonable amount of time, I'll be happy.
Really, guys, what's with the "it's not gonna happen" and "it was released too early" posts? We all know it was released too early, GET OVER IT. Stop crying over spilled milk. And as far as "it's not gonna happen"...why be pessimistic? Like I said earlier, you guy actually WANT AoC to fail.
If you're not willing to wait a little bit while FC finishes up their game, that's fine, your loss. Those that stick around will be enjoying the greatest MMO ever made. (note: not saying it is NOW, but it WILL be once it's 100% complete)

The problem is FC is great at acknowledging problems in writing, but they are very slow at getting the issues fixed. And if AO is any indication of things to come, expect many many half arsed fixes and thier infamous patch for a patch that patched last weeks patch for the previous weeks patch.
Many people wont stick around that long waiting for features and fixes for a game they bought 2 to 3 months ago. It will end up being another AO where at peak you have ~100k active paying subs.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Perhaps you don't have an issue with paying full-price for unfinished/beta software, but being a professional software developer, i do.
fact is, FC promised a bunch of things, some of which are printed on the box the game came in, which are still not in the game. that is against the law, not to mention deliberately deceptive, and deeply unprofessional.

You are absolutely correct ....... I hope Funcom loses millions in subscriber money for releasing another half baked game. People bored with nothing to do after a week or two of play is BS. Bugs are to be expected with any release, the quantity and quality of the bugs is the issue. The promises that quite simply at this point could be called "Lies" about what this game will be released with. Yep, personally I'm sick of the developers and their release now, fix later attitude.
To be honest, Funcom is a "Shady" company IMO ...... customer support, the wrongful banning of people, the deleting/locking of posts. Everything they have done is in my book pretty damn shady for a company trying to sell a product to the public.
To reiterate...... "YES" I hope Funcom pays for the way they have handled ...... just about everything.
What you obviously don't realize is the reason why they had to release it before it was ready: THEY RAN OUT OF MONEY. It was either release it and continue finishing up the game, or just flat out cancel it.
Hm, let's see what the better route would have been...
Honestly, do you think FC would have done this if it had been preventable? Look at the amount of people who are quitting because they want everything NOW, NOW, NOW! They're not stupid, they would have gladly extended the release date if they had been able to. Finished game > unfinished game. Not a very hard concept to grasp.

Well, they could have been honest about the state of the game instead of holding the NDA up till launch, keeping the main forums closed to the public for about a week and then deleting posts that reflect dissatisfied customers feelings. Instead of gaining the trust of customers they sold them a box and only later acknowledged that they didnt get to add this, fix that, etc.
Thats like Ford selling you a new truck and then telling you it will be in a driveable condition in a few months after you handed over the $30k.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

I bow for CCP's way to solve the bug issue it worked at least for the majority.
back to the topic FC won't have things all things fixed with the next patch but most likely the major issues will be fixed.
New content will always draw attention from remaining bugs and people has a habit of getting used to the bugs and in the end a bug isn't a biggie if they like the game.
My advise to people in general you just have to choose the game you like the most and stick with it.. try to accept the fact that if you want a bug free game you need to buy a single player game... mmo's will never be bug/glitch/exploit free.
By the way, I never disputed the artistic style or how the characters blend with the world. In fact, that was the thing that drew me most into the game, when I made the choice between that and EQ2 (back when the two games launched). WoW needs a revamp. The developers know it and have plans for it.
I'm going to have agree with Xasapis. Some of you are confusing Art Style with graphics ENGINE.
Huge difference.
AoC's Graphics Engine is far superior to WoW's outdated one, but the Art Style is totally subjective.
Personally i like WoW's, but AoC's is great too, the art style i mean.

Go and read my posts on wow and lotro forums and see what i think of them! oh wait you wont find any..thats because i played them and found they were not to my liking so i left them and feel no need to post there .

Quite frankly I don't care about Funcoms problems. They are a business and if they can't conduct "Business" in a business like manner, perhaps they shouldn't be in "Business." Please feel free to share with me another business that would release an unfinished product and expect the consumer to pay for it.
I just simply don't buy the "Ran out of money" thing. Any investor would know the disastrous result of releasing a product that was unfinished. You fork over some more money to protect the money you already have invested. I know, with all the hype smothering this game, they could have come up with more money. They simply made yet another "BAD" decision concerning this game.
In time I'm sure it will be straighten out. But to expect a consumer to act as an investor so they can finish their game, with no hope of a return I might add, is wrong.
They did not sell a game they took advantage of the big hype and got some profit.
They deserve to fail not only because they took advantage of the poor folk who bought it but companies releasing such garbage take all the MMO standards even lower then before.
Even if they manage to put up a decent product in the future the harm is already done and they dont deserve my money. Moving on...
Aion, WAR, TCoS, we waiting for you to show us how it should be done.
