Um, no that doesn't explain anything.  People play games of "low quality" for whatever reason they choose to play them.  Perhaps it's because it's also low price.  Perhaps although it's low quality, it's still fun in some regards.  Perhaps it's because they are masochistic.  It has nothing to do with their definition of quality.

Once 6Million or more people stop playing I’ll start to worry about a different game.

I would like to note this is active accounts, so its $15 x10,000,000 a month.  WoW =gold.

Just so you know, not everyone pays $15 a month.  It could actually be substantially less since over half of that 10 million number is from Asia where they don't pay Blizzard directly, Blizzard has a license agreement with The9 who handles subscpritions.  There's a lot of speculation as to how much Blizzard makes off those in Asia, but no one other than Blizzard and The9 really knows.

Lol, stupid point but I’ll play with it. Let us say all of WoWs active accounts only pay 1 US dollar.  So if we take $1 a month paid by 10million accounts? Anyone have a calculator?  WoW isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

If that were the case, they would probably be losing money.

You have any idea of how many employee's Blizzard has now?  Several hundred at least.  Let's say they are all making about 60K a year or 5K a month.  That's 1 million a month just to pay their salaries and that doesn't include what they put in 401K, insurance or any other benefits.  Now add to that the cost of maintaining a place for those people to work, the electricity it costs to run their computers, their computer equipment itself, plus all the equipment they need to keep the servers running and on and on and on.

Yeah, 10 million a month sounds like a lot, till you start breaking it down.  Don't get me wrong, Blizzard is doing very well for itself, no question about it, but I don't think they are quite to the point of wiping their butts with 5 dollar bills just yet.  Bill Gates they are not.

Edit:  OMG. a little research puts the number of total employees around 2700.  Um that's like 13.5 million a month just on salary assuming an average of 60K.  Course we are only talking about WoW subscription money which is only a fraction of what Blizzard pulls in.

Okay, so we are on the same page then? Bizz is making A LOT of money off of WoW regardless of the monthly wage! So, until they make their next hit we shouldn’t worry about WoW going anywhere. Thanks for reinforcing my point.

There are a lot of masochists out there. I'm still waiting for your ultimate definition of quality that applies to everyone on this planet (except to masochists).

Beaten by what? Number of subscription? Or deep of the gameplay? For the first I'm not shure if it will be soon, and about the second WoW is already one of the weakest.

WoW will be played, as is the same reason MOOs, MUDs, MUCKs and MUSHs are today...

Its not going to be beaten any time soon, conan, the latest contender, is too buggy, and the quests arent fun. Guild wars doen't have an extensive enough PvE world, but the PvP is better. And if you want t complain about leveling being too fast, play guild wars. I got to the level cap in a week, playing like 3 hours a day. The thing is World of Warcraft keeps getting new content, so its not really a 3 year old game as you say.

    Amen!

I would rather have 10 games that all compete for the same 10 million people than 1 game with 10 million people.  Hopefully we will start to see that happen this year and not just another year of hyped games tripping over themselves to release despite their condition as in the last several years.

In 10 years there will be one billion who plays MMORPGS. Thats quite a market

I don't think WoW will be beaten by anything for awhile. Granted.. it IS almost 4yrs old, but EQ maintained a good status for up to 8yrs, before it started to slide.

Game competition is a good thing, I believe.

Simply is a matter of play-style & taste for a particular MMO, IMHO anyway  -  for people who chose their games.

I personally still play WoW, even if I do have a love/hate relationship with it And.. will continue to do so for quite awhile.

Yes, WoW will go downhill some day, such is the fate of every game, but even if it ended today it would still be one of the most successful mmorpgs to date, granted it's far from perfect, but this game managed to have a little bit for everyone, whether you like social gatherings, crafting or taking a walk by yourself.

    Great job i say.

also wow has like 10k subs, best thereafter is lotro? with 150something`?

  • warrorwarror Member Posts: 270

I think the following would help Wow.

    - Get rid of  rep grinding

    - PVP should yield exp (If I want to pvp till i am blue in the face I should be allowed to and be able to lvl

    at same time)

    - More Bgs 4 is not enough

    - Eliminate 2 v 2 and 3 v 3 arena. Arena should be 5 v 5 or more like 8 v 8, 12 v 12

    - New quests in the lvl 40 - 50 range and lvl 50 to 60 range.

    - revamp old instances like AQ (new drops etc)

    - More bg options in early lvls why can't i go to AB till lvl 20 and waiting till lvl 50 to go to AV is too long too. It

would be awesome if you could play AV at lvl 30.

WoW will never truly die unless Blizzard pulls the plug.  No matter what blizz does (or doesn't) do to the game there will always be a core hardcore playerbase that simply will not quit playing.  These people invested too much time in the game, raiding, crafting, etc to pack up and start over in another game as Level One Noob.

Same reason why EQ1 still has enough players to stay online.  Many people left but some just refused to abandon characters they worked so hard on.  Usually takes a colossal blunder (like the NGE) to nearly kill a MMO.  I doubt Blizz will do something like that.

I left because I got tired of Blizz forcing content down my throat that I didn't want.  Seriously, wasting a content patch on Voice Chat?  No one really asked for this, especially since many who DID want it were using vent or TS.

Early WoW they just wanted me to be solo/small group.  Then they said STOP you must go raid daily!  Then they said, whoops stop raiding and go pvp in Arena!  Now they said why are you in Arenas?!  Go rep grind so you can get an exalted purple item that will be made trivil in the next patch with a new faction you'll have to go grind exalted with.

I enjoyed most of my stay in Azeroth, but for me it was time to move on.  WotLK, at least for now, doesn't hold enough interest for me to resub when it comes out.
