I need little advice on rebuilding computer

proedgeproedge Member Posts: 3

Ok i bought this computer a few years ago intending to upgrade it and build around it. Well i screwed up and realized I got a 939 amd motherboard. the 939 amd  duo core processors are priced way too high so i figured i can spend that 250 that it would cost to buy one toward rebuilding my computer to be more upgradable in the future, especially since they dont make 939 chips anymore. This is my computer.

AMD 64 3000, 150gig HD 7200rmp, 6800GT nvidia, 2gigs ddr and has two Internal fans besides the stock processor fan and graphics card fan.

Now Im looking spend about 550 dollars and was just wondering if you guys have any recomdations for MOB,Processor, video card and ram for best bang for my Buck. All i do is game mostly on my computer and i believe my Hardrive will do for now. I have only filled half of it. My power supply is Enermax 535 watt power supply which i think should be fine unless you guys really dont think it will work out. Im not planning to SLI video cards for a while. I just want something more upgrade friendly for the future so i can work around this computer Better and play all the games coming out on high settings or close to it for a while if its possible. This is first time for me rebuilding a computer so im still new too it, trying do as much research as i can on it.

Firstly I'm from the UK so can't really tell you specific prices as I know you guys get electronics a lot cheaper but I'll give you a guess-timate.

Motherboard- a lot of people buzz of jabberin' on about motherboards but imo unless your overclocking its not that big a deal, as long as you get a respected brand you can get a fairly resilient socket 775 motherboard for im guessing $100-150 depending on what you want.

CPU- as far as the CPU goes I'd say your best option is one of the mid to high end core2duo's as opposed to the quad cores. You also don't say which operating system you intend on using cause you have to bear in mind unless you have vista or xp pro your extra cores might not be utilised fully. so lets say a E6550 or E6750 for $200-250

GFX Card- atm I have a 8800 GT that ,I highly recomend, which is probably about $200-250 again

As far as your power supply goes you might be pushing it with a 535 watt depending on which gfx card you go for. Also bear in mind your gonna need to get some ddr2 ram too. Again as I said no idea about prices on US so might be completly wrong :P but I'm sure someone can come correct me.

CPU-The Q6600 (quad-core) has received great reviews all across the board for its price and performance.

Not many games are able to utilize it yet, but that is beginning to change with the release of games like "Sins of a solar empire," and "Crisis".  Really, quad-core CPUs is the new directions that computers will take and it doesn't hurt to get a head start.
