Hello this will be my second Comp ive ever made [my last one was done 3 years ago]. Ive chosen some components but i thought id run them by you all to see what you thought of my choices.
Now i will admit my in- depth knowledge of components is not as good as it could be but i do know how to put it all together to get a fully working computer together.

Its OK. Wait until July for the video card though.
i've never been a fan of gigabyte motherboards. also, see if you can find a model with a newer chipset
why are you using the q6600 cpu ? not that it's bad, i'm just looking to understand your intentions.
cpu cooler.. i'd go with a zalman cnps 9700 if you can track one down. that cooler looks ... dunno, seems to be very confined.
what memory are you planning on using ?
vista 64 ? why ? seriously.

Don't go with vista. If you need 64bit go with xp proff. They are coming out with xp proff 2007 next year it may have aero and dx10 but it will still be stable becuase it still is xp.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

I didn't realise they were doing this.

not bad specs though
total speculation. from what i have read (and there has been HEAPS of it) xp CAN NOT run dx10, if it was possible it would already be done (yes im aware of the attempt/tech demo and it is a fail since it cant run every facet). why build a new rig to run old dx?
there is absolutely nothing wrong with vista 64 after it installs sp1. the major bonus is using the 64 bit o/s offsets some of the power dx 10 sucks up.
i love gigabyte boards (and coolers). as far as im concerned asus lost their edge when they started making cases, drives, etc.
only real question is, yea why a quad core? it will be time to upgrade again by the time they are useful to gamers..and even then theres issues i wont delve into.
