Zelda MMORPG possible?

It has the races, lore, and content to be pulled off. I know it would be pve focused, but maybe perhaps pvp could work too? Not sure if it would be faction pvp or ffapvp... but it def has plenty of races who would fight against each other. Like hylians, gerudos, and gorons.

From the typical health bar of most mmorpgs, I could see gaining a heart for each level.

The nature of the Zelda line of games would not be very conducive to an MMO environment. The whole premise behind each of the Zelda games is rescue the Triforce, Save the Princess and keep the world safe from the clutches of Ganon. All you'd end up doing is running around the world without any kind of real point because not everyone can be the Hero of Hyrule. I'd love to see an MMO version, I just don't think it would be very engaging.

I'm pretty sure they already have a MMO that is a Zelda-spin off but it was low budget and infested with hackers and whatnot. It is listed here as an MMO and I think you can find it under the Game List as Graal Kingdom. It looks IDENTICAL to the SNES game's graphics and animations, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I'm assuming you probably mean an MMO with the Zelda theme but with a larger budget.

Not all Zelda games have the princess or ganon involved. It could focus on the other things in the Zelda universe.

It wouldn't focus on Ganon, Link or the Princess. It could focus on the time before or after them 3.

They actually have two games named Graal..suprisingly and the one listed on the site isn't the one I was refering too. I believe the one I was thinking of was called Graal Online and not to be confused with the one listed here as Graal Kingdom.

Well then it wouldn't be a Zelda MMORPG would it?

You see, the whole experience of it was meant to be an RPG...it would be near impossible to  make this into a decent MMORPG, unless you want thousands of Links running around doing the same quests.

zelda would be fun but nintendo i dont think will ever do it.  Just look at pokemon, its an mmo like game but they have zero interest on making a computer pokemon game, even though it will sell hundreds of millions of dollars

WTH is your point? There is Zelda games w/o Zelda in it. LOTRO doesn't have the 1 ring.

Big difference.  Having a Zelda MMO without a Zelda/Link is like having a Naruto MMO without a Naruto.

They may never do it for the pc, but may for the wii or some future system. I haven't been a fan of pokemon since red/blue, but I read the big N was considering a pokemon MMO. HECK, they're making a DBZ MMO

Not really. I was just using the name "Zelda", cause that's the name most people know it by. Hyrule Online... quit being smug now.

Smug?  I am in no way being smug. The fact is you plan on making a Zelda (Hyrule and Zelda are the SAME game) without an actual reference to the original game.

The fact is, you can't call it a "Hyrule" MMO just because you made the place look a little like Hyrule.  You need to have an actual reference to the game if you plan to call it that.  While LOTRO doesn't have the rings, it is Tolkien and other things that make it reference to the actual books.

Making a Hyrule MMO and then not even having the game be referenced to it doesn't make much sense.

I plan on? I was discussing the possibilities. Zelda and Hyrule are not the same. Zelda is the title that everyone knows the series best by. Zelda Majora's Mark takes place in Termina. If the game world was to revolve around hyrule, then hyrule online would be an appropriate name. You obviously never played any Zelda series... You're just being smug and shooting done ideas for the stupidest reasons. If the big N was gonna make a Zelda MMO, they could call it w/e they want. LotRO makes no sense... cause the game isn't built around the 1 ring, but Zelda is the title given to all their series... EVEN THE ONES W/O PRINCESS ZELDA IN THE GAME.

what if link got posessed by evil and gannon tries to take over hyrule so everyone in hyrule join together to defeat gannon. it would be like guild wars with video clips before missions and you can finish the story mode.

It would appear that someone here does not think you can suitably make a Zelda MMO without using the main three characters in it.  I can prove this wrong, and even lay down a very believable story to accompany it AND set the stage for the whole game.

"BAM!  Its been 10-100 years since whatever Zelda game you feel like referencing.  Hyrule has not seen another "Hero" since the last time some guy in green broke his sword over gannons face.  In that time, lots of bad things happened...lots of bad people skipped around and made happy all over the place, and lots of good people from the 4 corners of Hyrule were left with no one to save them.  The leaders of the tribes of Hyrule finally figured out that it wasn't such a bad ideal to start teaching its own people how to take care of business."

There you have it.  Stage set.  You pick one of at least three races.  Hyrulian, Goron, Zora.  You go out, you slash and stab at things with whatever weapons they feel like using (The Zelda series already makes use of Swords, Spears, Axes, Bows, Crossbows, Bombs, Boomerangs, Punchie facies, scythes, morningstars, flails,...the entire list of medieval weaponry) and help make the world a safer place until such a time comes that the lazy Green Man shows back up.

I wouldn't actually use a level system though.  I mean, it could work...and there is nothing wrong with it.  But it would just be more fitting to use the same system that rocks the regular series anyway.  You get hearts, and more damage, and better armor, by completing tasks in the world.  You know, beating dungeons...killing big crazy things...exploring the overworld....doing this games version if the gladiator challenge (the one where you have 100 rooms to go down and each one gets harder).  Levels remove all of the awesome fun there is to be had in the elements that already MAKE the game fun.  It would be SOO nice to actually have a game which rewarded me nicely for just poking my head around the world.

I don't believe there has ever been a Nintendo MMO before. They are very strict on their AAA titles.  They wouldn't want something to happen to them like what happened to SWG.

Hyrule -- http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/a0/Hyrulemap.jpg , http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d7/Hyrule2.png -- is merely one section of one continent that is, we may assume, of one planet.

It is even possible in a Zelda MMORPG to use an achievement-tree and a skill-list for the sake of diversity.
