Hello! I went out and bought the game yesterday, patched it all last night, and even bought a new 8800 GTS card that I am having installed today!
My questions is... Are the classes in this game pretty much Identical to their Everquest counterparts? I started a Shaman last night, and I briefly looked at the spell list the trainer provided and saw a lot of DoT, Debuff, Heals, Buffs, some Direct Dmg etc.... Seems almost exactly like the old EQ Shamans.... I only played for about 20 min (it was 3:30am when patching finished) and didnt get a chance to create and play any other classes....
I played a Ranger to 65 in EQ (PoP) - but havent played since then - are there any major differences between VG classes compared to their EQ counterpart!?
Any info would be appreciated, as I will be rolling my main tonight, and won't be looking back!

In general, the classes are along the same lines as EQ but more in depth and complex. I don't know how many classes EQ ended up with, but VG has 15 I believe and some of them are quite unique like the Bloodmage.
The spells you get depend on the pet you choose.
1. Turrgin=Bear Pet..This shammy is the tank/melee type of shammy. He has the best melee buff in the game and is one of the best solo classes in VG. I have a level 50 bear shammy and he rocks even though the dps is not that great .
2. Ruukur=Wolf Pet..This shammy has a stealth skill and movement skill(although all 3 shammys have a run skill)He also has many haste (melee) buffs and slow type spells.
3. Haayet= Phoenix Firebird=This is the caster pet and has the highest dps of all the shamen classes. I don't really no much about him but he was popular at the start of vg but now many player prefer bear for its tanking abilities.
All three wear medium armor and have levitation spells.All 3 can solo well but the bear can really take down big named mobs that would leave most other classes eating dust.
Healers in VG are not the normal type healers.
Blood Mage= Caster dps sorcerer type healer who has to join with mob for blood pacts.
Cleric=probably your typical healer though they wear plate armor and can tank.
Shammy= As above.
Disciple= I also have a level 50 disciple who is a melee type healer that needs to engage the mob to heal with jin. This healer has the highest s DPS of all healers and is a 6 dot killer ,meaning alongside the necro he is the best solo class in the game and also has fake death.
Vanguard classes are mostly along the line of EQ ones. Two classes that are not in EQ is the Bloodmage and Disciple, both healers. You might want to try them out 1st, as healers in VG are more capable than ones in EQ, better balanced compare to cleric dominated EQ, and far better soloer. Shaman mentioned differs from EQ mainly with shape changes, a bit like the druid of WoW. And druid in VG is dps caster, not a healer, although they still have rather decent heals.
The druid in vanguard is not a healer but a caster that does dps. so this one is different then eq.
