If having a dedicated and reliable player base that keeps the game running for 3+ years is how you define an "Awesome" successful game, then you should vote "Awesome". Even if you don't like it....
No, my vote of Fail still stands, AoC may not be economical failure but it sure is a failure design wise in my opinion.

AoC will be neither a roring success or a dismal failure, rather it is destined to become one of the niche MMO's ( and I use the MMO tag loosely ) that will generate enough income to keep the servers active but will need a continuing influx of new players to remain at that level.
AoC had at the outset a potential playerbase of millions, everyone loves the Conan franchise. Funcom however have delivered a game with numerous flaws and badly designed systems. Maybe this is as a result of an overwhelming desire to have a slice of Blizzards pie but in my opinion any MMO that starts off with that intention is doomed to relative obscurity. SoE made just that mistake with SWG. They had a perfectly good, sandbox MMO with a steady, if not spectacular number of loyal subscribers, enough in fact to ensure the games future and to continue to turn a profit. But then someone in a suit developed dollar sign syndrome and greed kicked in. They wanted that elusive slice of Blizzard pie. Enter the CU & NGE, a complete change of style and direction, quest based rather than sandbox, linear rather than open. Exit the subscribers by the bucketload and hello obscurity.
It appears to me that Funcom had the roughly same idea. Fully quest based with a linear path through the game rather than an open, sandbox type world in which players and characters just evolved. AoC feels more like a single player RPG and I don't mean just the first 20 levels, the rest of the game feels that way also and this is a direct result of some of those bad design decisions I mentioned earlier. FC have relied heavily on the look of the game at the outset and the endgame of massive battles, and in doing so have completely lost the feel of a developing, living world. To compound this the look is held back by releasing without DX10 and the endgame isn't even there yet. Ao took over 12 months to be anything like ready, AoC will take just as long for all those promised features to be delivered but we shoudn't really be surprised by that. Funcom have always worked this way, the last couple of zones for Shadowlands were not there when the expansion was released.
WoW has been both a blessing and a curse to the MMO genre, much the same as EQ was before it. A blessing in that it has attracted a great many new players to MMO's in general, a curse because everyone and his dog is trying to copy it's success. Well here is a word to the wise, success can rarely be copied because those that got there first have already milked it for all it's worth, if you want success then look in a different direction and create your own. It is here that Funcom have failed in spectacular fashion. Look beyond the graphics, imagine them to be more cartoon-like and what you have is a pretty standard, quest driven, linear progression with fast level gains, or in other words a smaller and more poorly implemented clone of WoW.
Will the endgame, when it finally arrives elevate AoC beyond this? nobody knows yet but if it fails to do so then AoC is destined for maybe 100k to 150k steady subscriptions from those that really love Conan and his world, which is enough to keep the game going but hardly a massive success. With Warhammer, Aion, Jumpgate Evolution, Stargate Worlds, TCoS and others on the way I feel that FC may struggle.
1) WTH are you talking about here? I find shortcuts on most maps where I just ran across the zone not following the path P. Even on tortage you can find a shortcut here are there. But off the island, you are in no way restricted to the path. Try this play the game then post, rofl.
2.) Hmm I am lvl54 now and havent seen a lack of content. I fully expect by the time majority of the players are even close to max level, content will be fine and dandy. Please if you would, list the other MMO's that had all of the end game content in play at lanuch? I cant think of one P. Although early on some did have issues with strictly quest leveling, but you can always group and gain exps for levels faster then EQ. 3.) Hmm, Knockdown, stuns, roots, instance nukes vs heavy hitting nukes, fire vs electric (for me Demo). Come at me just pushing buttons with no strat and you will be at the respawn soon. This game has more strats for combat than most other MMOs I can remember, like old SWG , with KD, Stuns, snares and roots, and for my necro friends, dots and pets. It is big fun for me.
Bottom line, play then post please. Garbage like this quoted post show trolling at its finest. No knowledge of the game, just crash it with unfact filled random blurbs. The force is weak with that one P.

because your facts are incorrect, so if you did play you're are very unobservant. It is a FACT not opinion that you do not have to stay on the path but you can explore the woods and hills. Not knowing this basic fact, lead me to believe you havent played. I have played games where you couldnt leave the path, this isnt one of them.

Can anyone really take Jarno Kokko's AoC review seriously? All he does is nitpick minor glitches and bugs, rants on and on about their choice of game design simply because he doesn't agree with it. The combat system seems to simply whoosh over his head as he doesn't even mention shields or active blocking.
He even goes on to state that female characters do 25% less DPS as a FACT when no one has done the testing to confirm this, he offers no evidence to back up his claim or even where he got the 25% number. Likely he just saw someone claiming it on the forums and decided to stick it in simply because he hates AoC. I mean come on if your going to claim someone as a fact you need to back it up, thats journalism 101.
It's hard to make it serious if u look other reviews of games that are known to have lots of bugs at start yet he gave them high scores. STALKER, The Withcher for example.
It seems AOC is not like Wynona Rider hehe.

I appreciate you clearing that up. He had me believing that women characters did less damage. This was the first time I had heard of it. I'm not calling anyone a liar, but I'd rather verify that charge...

AoC is mess in my eyes. It got released far too early, and it really shows with the lack of content from about level 50 up. There are plenty of annoying bugs, and some major ones have gone unfixed since beta. It's a shame, because it really looked like it would be good.
As far as females attacking slower, this has actually been tested by an AoC forum member, and I believe the bug only effects HoXs. You can see the thread here: http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=69451

ya that is true, i think most ppl vote awesome or fail is not base on their own experience. Most of them is by the source they found, the forum influence.

I think AoC did exactly what Funcom wanted the game to do. So i would have to say the game isnt a failure, nor do i see the servers being shut down for several years. I guess im saying is the poll even necessary?
i think they deliberately set out to release the game as beta quality expecting to be able to patch it up over the next 6 months as people levelled, but got caught with their pants down because people exploited the numerous bugs and hit max level so quickly. This is shown in the steady loss of subscribers and the constant negative feedback of almost all that have tried the game.

i voted fail because:
1) i don't like the pvp in this game
2)selling a unfinished game is not exactly the best way to succeed in my opinion
3)2 strong mmos going out soon (WoTLK , War) aoc seems that can't stand against them

AoC is mess in my eyes. It got released far too early, and it really shows with the lack of content from about level 50 up. There are plenty of annoying bugs, and some major ones have gone unfixed since beta. It's a shame, because it really looked like it would be good.
