I know that is hard to believe but it's true. Maybe because when I turn down settings in the graphical options in Vanguard it actually increased peformance.
omg get a life, go outside, buy a game that you don;t have to bitch about and eave us alone.
It's sad isn't it? These same guys spend hours and hours doing this. The same anti-AoC mental cases, and I say that because why on earth would anyone spend months here just saying how bad something is unless there is really something wrong with you, have spent I'm guessing over a year now doing the same stuff.
Some of you need help, seriously. This isn't normal social behavior.
I'm guessing the poll will show a negative result for Funcom (imagine that)

That may be true. However, with Funcoms dedication and hard work ......
Didnt Blizzard also gave false promise features like hero classes and housing and i think a few other things on release but didnt actualy provide? Been so long i dont remember.
Yes they did promise hero classes and people called them on it and were not happy etc. I do not recall them promising housing. In fact I recall the opposite, they basically said they had little desire to make housing as they did not consider it much in the way of value added and had too many possible downsides to do right (urban sprawl etc.)
I think the major difference here is that some of the things promised by funcom were billed as key features and part of what made AoC a game worth considering.
Then bam suddenly its part of the "evolution" of the game etc etc.
WoW just either mentioned or vaguely promised Hero classes as something that they would like to do. They built some hype around it like any company will do. And to be sure WoW is good at hyping things but they generally say "This will be really cool." That is one of the reasons WoW has good marketing they may over-promise like many. But they don't walk themselves off a plank by promising that they are creating greatest thing since sliced bread.
All companies are at least fairly greedy. Even ArenaNet, even though they very much try to adhere to a pricing paradigm they consider more fair. All companies make promises they don't quite keep. All companies hype to some degree.
But like I said in the OP, Funcom seems to have crossed one of those hard to define lines of just too much BS to bear. Its more of a preponderance of things than any one thing. But its also the character of some of these things. If these were so key to the design why aren't they working? If sieges are such an integral part of the PvP endgame yet they don't work then how can they have been tested? Do we conclude that their design is not really tested?
Its just too much. Its not beleivable. I can no longer give them the benefit of the doubt like I was before. I am not quick to believe but Funcom has crossed a line where now I am basically automatically going to treat everything they as if it were a lie and they will need to prove its truth.
I do not normally do that. Even with greedy companies who I know want my money, I at least give them the benefit of the doubt. Sure I have a healthy skepticism. But I do not automatically call them liars or whatever. Not until they go too far.
Blizzard is somewhere in between. Basically I know they are full of crap and greedy. But I also know they are careful to avoid outright lies or over-promising. In fact Blizzard rarely says much at all until they have something nailed down pretty well. Maybe not a great design but to a point where they know what they are going to do.
Funcom seems to be run by used car salesmen. Not only do they over promise but when you add it all up it doesn't even make much sense. Even if they deliver on the their promises the execution itself means they were lying before. That is the tip off really.
Blizzard said they would look into housing at a later date but had no intentions of having it in for release.
Hero classes were promised at one point, but they even stated in beta and other interviews before launch that they would not have them in at release.

That's just awesome. They're in a half-baked renaissance setting and toward the end of the video the guy waves his arms around like the casters in AoC do.
Some of you do need to seriously relax and take a deep breath.
Not sure who that is directed too. I'm kicking it my easy chair, bottled water nearby, window open and nice relaxing breeze blowing through the house. It's my day off. Ahhhhhh.... Talk of fraud, class action lawsuits and the such is honestly a crock. You sound as if the Funcom developers hid in dark rooms, deep in the mountain complex, reading from the Necronomicon, all the while bowing before Dr. Evil.
Actually they did hide. It was called NDA. They are still hiding as evidenced by long time to get response from GM, if ever, and no tech support for thousands of people who have posted over at the official tech forums. The only time they come out of their hole is to make promises about stuff they will put in the game at some later date, meanwhile stuff they promised to be in at launch is not in. Lie's built on lies. I'd hide too if I was them because we haven't seen this level of incompetence since SWG and Vanguard.
The thing that many of you seem to not understand is that, first, MMO's are an ongoing experience.
All mmo's are ongoing (until they are shutdown). Hate to break it to you, partner, but you were not the first person to notice mmo's are ongoing. LOL.
Things happen in the development cycle. Things change and sometimes a company has to do what it has to do. They had to launch, probably for a similar reason that Vanguard had to launch...they needed income.
With this kind of rationalization, they could give you anything and you would take it. My standards are higher than that.
However, unlike Sigil/SOE with vanguard, Funcom has continued to update and work on the game constantly almost nonstop since release. Look at the size of the patch last week! 2 patches that is with a lot of fixes (and that isn't counting the numerous server-side fixes here and there).
The game just launched so I expect there will be lots of patches. However, their patches have not fixed the ati gpu underutilization and now the free month is almost over.
Oh wait, I am sorry - go ahead and bitch about the server's being down for patches. I guess we should sue them for that too. Some people are never happy.
is the game that bad? Not really. Is it great? No. It is a solid game though and its fun to play.
The game isn't solid. Even Funcom admits they left content out and major features are either broken or are not in game yet. Sheesh.
Do I care if sieges are in right now? Not at all. You have to have a Tier 3 (?) city and be high level. If you are level 80 by now and bored, then NO game will keep you happy.
I agree with you here. Who cares about sieges and end game content when performance does not change when you switch graphics from high to low.
Do I care that there are bugs or broken systems? Nope...you can thank WOW and other games for that. WOW launched with many things broken and game breaking bugs and wait.....many million still played and continued to signup knowing the game had issues. That is basically giving all company's the go-ahead to launch broken games because people will play them and pay for them in any state as long as they are fun. Does it make it right? Not at all...but it does make it the way it is.
Everyone playing now is playing the first 30 days free. After that, many of them including myself will not continue our subscription. You say you will give them your money because others have lied to you before. That is sad.
I think the only really broken thing (that was promised) is the DX10 graphics. However given Vista and all of the issues with that, who knows how it would be anyway.
OMG. DX10 is only real thing broken?! LOL
I am sorry you fee lied too and want to place the blame on Funcom but its time to get over it. The game is in the same condition that many are when they launch.
I've played quite a few mmo's at launch. And while each of them had their issues, most of them were atleast playable for me. None of them launched this crappy for me, not even Vanguard. A lot of people defended Vanguard and called anyone with negative comments haters also...and now look at the Vanguard population. The truth eventually wins out in form of subscriptions.
The problem is that the game gets overhyped and then when it launches, the community expects perfection.
No one expects perfection. You give yourself too much credit and the mmo community not enough. There are game vetrans here who have seen the gamut from craptastic to omg it's awesome! No one expects perfection though, because perfection does not exist. No game will live up to many of your expectations. I don't care if LOTRO was close to perfection at launch - it still is boring as hell. I will say it again - MMO's are incomplete and are a work in progress. if you want a perfect game at launch, I would recommend staying with non-mmo games.
No game is perfect, irregardless if they are mmo or not. So I will ignore your advice.
To say Funcom was knowingly dishonest is going a bit far. To think the committed fraud or should be served with a class action lawsuit is going way overboard. READ THE EULA and TOS! It says everything. You think because your computer can't run it, you are going to get your money back? Good luck with that and have fun proving its their game and not your computer. I am way below minimum and run it just fine (AMD Athlon 64, 2.4 ghz single core, 2 gigs RAM, Geforce 9600GT, Windows XP) and I run it on HIGH without shadows and AA turned down to 7.
Eula does not excuse fraud. Lawyers have been on this forum and game forums of past to say this. Many people have good rigs and can't enjoy game at playable fps. Head over to AOC tech forums to read 1000+ posts please.
The sad truth here is many of you just want someone to blame for some reason. You are angry that you tried Age of Conan and it isn't the game you expected; you thought your computer couldn't run it; you wanted the next big thing to take you away from WOW; your guild left you behind and went to play Age of Conan; you feel better having someone to blame. Whatever it is, I think its time to admit that, the game isn't perfect, Funcom marketed the game well, but Funcom wasn't knowingly dishonest to the point that they deliberately lied to the public to the point you could seek damages. If you feel so strongly about it, then feel free to try the litigation route - and be prepared to be laughed out of court.
You fail as a mind reader. As far as suing, $50 is not worth my time. But if a class action suit is started and I can get back my money, I will try maybe, just to make a statement.
What did Funcom promise that was in the game that isn't that so DIRECTLY effects your enjoyment?
I am tired of generalities, I would like specifics.
Don't talk about performance because that is up to the individual user. I run the game on HIGH with 30-50 fps regularly and you can look above to see my system.
Don't talk about sieges because unless your guild has a Tier 3 city and you are level 80; otherwise you are just playing the waiting game.
As I mentioned before, the only promise that I think could be considered "dishonest" was DX10 but even then, I would hope someone would be playing for more than graphics.
Sorry and I do not mean to be an ass about it, but I am sitting here looking at an advertisement in a magazine and I see nothing that was promised about the game that I have not experienced and I am level 40.
I will admit the game isn't perfect and has issues (no more than other MMOs I have played at launch), but I seriously think that to think Funcom is worse than some other companies or to put them in a special category where you give them the doubt before the benefit is a bit too much. You want to see dishonesty? I recommend looking in to what insurance companies do to their members.
At this time T3 cities are not able to be built, so any guild able to build them couldnt.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

And if they are that far along and have that many resources harvested and saved up that much gold, then good luck to them. I am in one of the largest guilds, with a lot of members, and we just built our Tier 2 keep....and thats with 100s of members donating.
I wonder if this is Amazing Avery's other account?

So basically dont bring it up because your guild hasnt done it yet? There are guilds out there who have the manpower, the resources and are ready to build but cant because of said bug. I do believe they would want to play with sieging but are held back by this and are probably frustrated by the inability to use this feature.
Thats just another "It doesnt affect me so its not a true issue" statement.

Let me jump in. I enjoyed the game but specifically I bought a PC with Vista 64 to enjoy DX10 - gaulte gonard was promising this right up to a couple of days before launch. Secondly my son visits next week and I would have liked to enjoy playing with him on the advertised buddy key. Finally whilst the 'content' part of the game is a lot of fun once you get past that there is absolutely no sign of a game at all. I ordered Vanguard today.

What a ridiculous challenge, tamplarga. I don't even need the specific instance that Gorilla provided here.
Your very premise is silly. I must have something that impairs my enjoyment in order for Funcom to have said things that were untrue?
Those two things aren't even related. In fact I even said in this thread that one of the early posters was perfectly reasonable to vote "Yes" and still be enjoying the game. In fact i even said that the game of an OK game with a decent release.

Vanguard is a very nice game now, but a day late, dollar short, you should just go to EQ2 if you are a past player, they got some free time for vets going now.
Anyways...
If you are looking to burn time and AoC is not in your future, get ready to dump some serious hours in vanguard now, just find a populated server though before creating a character.
Im not sure why I stopped playing EQ to be honest I really can't remember. I played when the fairy expansion came out so things worked pretty well by then. Fairies (in a manly sort of way) for the win.
Originally posted by templarga I do not see what the big deal is about sieges as very few people would participate in them and there would be no keeps to siege or defend yet (unless your server is full of powerlevelers who will leave the game anyway because they are always bored.) My server is no where ready for the end-game.
I will say it again.....give me an ad for the game and tell me what was promised by the box or listed on the box that isn't in-game.
Why else would PvP guilds buy AoC? This was THE concept that really excited my guild.
Siege warfare is/was a big deal for me and my guild. Not only is Siege Warfare part of 4 displays on the box, but it is/was the primary reason why most of us bought the game. Most of my guild, including myself, have canceled our accounts pending implementation.
Ico Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
