Some of you may remember my post that I made last night, concerning my crappy graphics card.
Here's my specs:
Dell XPS 410
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz
2.0 GB of RAM
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, 32-bit (Build 6000)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE
I removed all the crap that makes Vista run slow and have it set for the pure performance option, so it shouldn't be hogging up that much of my RAM. The problem is my video card was probably obsolete when I bought it. Canyourunit.com tells me I'm slightly below the recommended requirements for my video card and my processor.. I'm not to worried about the processor though.
I run Oblivion at a choppy 20-25 FPS. I found a card on Newegg.com, which is a GeForce 8600GT 512MB, it has a nice rebate so I got really interested in it. I've also heard not to buy any GeForce graphics card that doesn't have at least 600 as the last three digits because the others are cheapo models. Here's the link to the card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162006
So should I be able to play AoC with that card?

the 8600 will run the game good if you don't need every setting set to max. You will probably get best results with manually adjusting the advanced settings. Expect that you might be able to max some setings while some other settings better stay on low or disabled if you don't want to suffer a heavy fps hit.
I heard there was actually a bug right now where the FPS is actually lower when in the low setting than the high setting, strange stuff. Hopefully they'll get around to fixing all of this stuff so we'll all run this more smoothly.
its not really a bug its only that some settings in the low settings actually work not that good with some cards (mostly ati cards affected). thats why i said that you best manually adjust settings in the advanced settings.
This is only a suggestion so please dont run out and buy until you get more opinions.
But I would suggest you bump to 4 gig ram. Vista will try and use all your current ram at 2 gig. Even with your sys stripped deep down you know MS will try and get it all back on your harddrive one way or another 8/
I just picked up a 8800GT card the price is dropping. As well it plays aoc just fine. I have a dual core as well amd x64.
Cheers and GL
Nice setup you got there. I took a glance at some 8800's but they're still pretty expensive for cheap old me right now even with the mail-in rebates. Looks like I'll have to go with the slightly lesser 8600 model and turn the shadows off.
The game looks BEAUTIFUL in high graphics but I'll run it medium if I have to.
