Why so much HATE here?

I would like to say that AOC is a good game that will only get better with time.

Yes I understand why alot of people would get upset with the bugs, bugs and more bugs in the game.

Yes I understand where we as gamers spend money on a game and we get a game thats not all the way done.  It would be like ordering a uncooked food and told to eat.

be honest  people this game is fun and it not like Funcom is not trying to fix it.  Unlike TR, who knows what they are doing over there.  Funcom is giving the gamers at least 2 patches a week!!!

For me that shows they are trying to make it right. For me that shows that the DEVS are working thier butts off.

Should they have waited a little longer?

I would say yes.

All in all I'm having fun most of the time.

So why so much Hate for the game?

thanks,

Every game that gets away with releasing half-finished tells the companies behind them that its OK to do that and they too can get away with it.  I don't hate AoC, I don't want it to fail.  But I'm sure as hell pissed they released it in the condition it was, and hope other people are too, so they can't keep getting away with this.

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

Hate is a word that gets thrown around here willy-nilly. Hate means you want to rip the box apart, throw it out the window, then go on a rampage at the Funcom building. Alot of people don't like the game, but that's not hate. Besides you shouldn't use this site as a judgement of how good or bad a game is. With every big release it'll be the same...the key is giving the true haters the least amount of ammunition by obviously making a good game and having good business practices.

Edit: I like this analogy so I'll keep using it.

"Just release with a head and shoulders, Band-aids can fix the rest!"

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    Order of the White Border.

I see so many posting about this game sux and this is going to end up free in the long run.

Why not wait about 2 to 4 months to give a review of the game?

Haha that's not how trolls work here.  Most of them haven't even played the game they just read what other trolls write and summarize it in a way that makes them feel better about themselves.  In 3 or 4 months it will calm down and most will have moved on to the next game in beta or coming out soon.  I guarantee not one of the trolls here will play for more than 1 month, or get past level 50.  The ones that get far into it and write a bad review do just that.  They write a fair, but bad review and then they move on.

The trolls here spend hours a day refreshing the forums and slamming the game every chance they get...

    Bugs aren't the problem.

The problem is the design philosophy behind AoC and, let's be honest, the lack of design philosophy.

You see, AoC is the perfect example of everything that has gone wrong with MMORPGs in the past 10 years. It is extremely linear, the RPG mechanics are extremely badly thought out (if at all) and the core gameplay design is on the level "wouldn't it be nice if..."

In short, if this game succeeds it is going to drive the final nail into the coffin of everything MMORPGs originally stood for - content over fluff, dynamic persistent worlds, player freedom to choose his own way and make his own mark on the world in his own way... absolutely everything. It is the ultimate expression of shallowness of today's games - it railroads you down a pre-scripted content until you use it up and then move on.

It is an anti-MMORPG and if it succeeds it is going to seriously decrease any chance of a proper AAA MMORPG appearing anytime soon. Just like WoW's success almost obliterated any chance of non-EQlike game getting any proper funding. If AoC gets big we're looking at another 5 years of even worse games than those EQ ripoffs. Goodbye persistent, dynamic worlds with player-driven content. Hello linear "story MMORPGs" made for consoles.

And that's why I hate AoC.

    /add

And I hate it because it is horribly badly designed and it covers its glaring lack of IQ by putting on a layer of glossy graphics and "revolutionary" button mashing schemes. If it succeeds the devs will get a message that they can sell any old crap if it's got enough polygons on screen. For me gameplay > graphics anytime and I can't find words harsh enough for devs who think gameplay a secondary consideration to teh awesomez gfx to put in their PR releases.

yup....i agree. But i preordered under the assumption that IF THE GAME IS NOT AT LEAST 80% complete, i am going to cancel. No doubts about it. Tired of having games stack up in my drawer which suck and full of empty promises. DnL, POTBS, AOC, HGL, TR were my most recent preorders since i left SWG. Now i play EVE, great game, but i miss having an avatar. Thats why i usually have 2 mmos...EVE + something else. Trying WOW out again, but i know it wont last.....

I too have been burned by MMOs that look so good and talked a good game and when i buy it, then play it I felt that i was slapped in the face then called a sucker!

I just don't feel that with AOC for right now.  Yes things can change love can turn into hate.

Maybe I have not gotten my toon high enough lvl to find out what is really going on.  My highest level toon in AOC is 34 necro.

I will have to wait and see how is goes.  As of right now I'm having fun till Warhammer comes out.

I will tell you why I HATE AoC: every MMO that lacks the true spirit of old MMO (grouping, helping, open world, hardcore, realism) and is succesful, attracts more and more players that get used to this kind of games and make harder and harder to have a good MMO. They are setting an standard. For instance, almost nobody would understand an MMO without a GPS and a minimap nowadays. Soon, nobody will understand an MMO wihout instances and giant arrows pointing you to the quest giver and then to where the quest is done.

And this plainly and simply SUCKS

Hate is a strong feeling, as is love... you really should think why you use games to express this kind of feeling.

I do everything in AoC in group or duo as I do in Vanguard and Everquest2, you will solo in a MMO only if you want.

Hardcore is a illusion ( dont tell me you play WoW and also use the term hardcore )...well, but you mentioned Realism, this is the most dumbest requirement in a MMO, there is NO realism in MMOs... and to tell the truth, this is why I like RPG games, for escapism, not for realism...

You were the one that was against AoC because it is violent and you proved you are not able to realize the violence in every MMO as Everquest.

You really have an issue with AoC and a issue with perception.

There are really good Zoned or Instanced MMOs ( EQ2, AOC, GW, DDO, War ) etc

People hate AoC because mmorpg community in forums love to hate games, because the game is not for everyone and because the game is very popular.

Age of Conan has some performance and content issues, the constant updates are fixing and improving the game, but it was at least one of the best releases I experienced and Im sure the hate has nothing to do with these issues.

I cant understand why someone that just  doesnt like the game design start to act as an obsessed hater and try to find strange conspiratory reasons to justify the hate.

The fanbois bring it on themselves.  They refuse, absolutely refuse, to step back and look at anything from a dispassionate point of view.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

By now it should be common Knowledge to anyone who can't stand bugs or other frustrations from a game . Do not buy it in it's first month or even the second and third .

Well SioBabble, with AoC it seems these days the blind passion is even blinder between the haters.

You can see people here almost crying telling "I HATE AoC", you can see people making strange statistics to show Age of Conan is a failure and everyone should play WoW, this is very annoying.

As I said before, I enjoy AoC, I know a lot of people that enjoy the game and some people that just dont like the game, but I never saw so much people obsessed with a game before.

The only thing I can see is, mmorpg community is just not ready to recieve new games.

If the game does not has the sandbox illusion the game is trash, if the game has the sandbox illusion no one playes because the game has flaws and the game dies.

People use words like "hardcore", "sandbox" and now my favorite "REALISM" just to let down every game in the market...

... I can see why MMORPGs producers want to create games that can be atractive to new gamers or people outside mmo community, it seems mmo communites have to much personal issues or misconceptions to enjoy new games or just to not start a crusade against new games.

You're absolutely right: This is a great game.

So is WoW, but look at how people talk about it on these forums.

These forums are mostly a cesspool of stupid, elitist teenagers; they can rarely substantiate their claims, but are quick to bash anything that is "mainstream". This game is great and has a strong playerbase going for it, although it is not tailored to the hardcore crowd that LIVES ONLINE AND EXPECTS games to have enough content to fill 14 hours of their pointless lives in front of the monitor.

How else do you think shitty games like FFXI are trailing WoW on the ratings? Oh... almost forgot shills too. I've learned to ignore 90% of the shit on these forums as 90% of it is posted by shit.

    see, you dont understand nothing...

let me tell you why there is so much hate:

I said it before and now I say it again:

PEOPLE ARE SICK AND TIRED of all linear cookie cutter get 7 of X and bring it to Y so called "mmos".

we want what ultima online and pre-cu star wars galaxies was...

we want the ultimate sandbox style game where the players are the content and not stupid NPCs... we want aestetics, beautiness and diversity...

and most of all: an immerse open world and none instanced piece of crap like age of conan...

so dont say that you understand that its about bugs, because its not... until then I hope games like this fail

What you said about bugs, I agree with you, but I think if someone cant stand bugs this person should wait at least 3 months after release of every MMO... the only MMO I just didnt have any issue was Guild Wars....  I had a lot of issues from Lotro to EQ2 at the release.

But about SWG I disagree, AoC was released now, is a new, unique, very well done game with issues ( as most mmos are at the release ) no one felt with AoC or lost with AoC what SWG community lost and felt with Lucas Arts and SoE decisions.

Well, it is hard to accept, but SWG obsession has a reason, Age of Conan negative obsession doenst... ...or maybe it does, mmo communities are spoiled by their personal life issues, misconceptions and game concepts that only existis in their head.

Really, people can keep playing WoW, UO, EQ and move on... as I said before, hate is a strong feeling, when someone HATE something like a game, it only shows how empty the life of this person is.
