The truth to having a sucessful MMORPG.

                                       Knowing the Human Mind

Having a good understanding of the human mind and interaction is the true guide making a successful MMORPG. Human Interaction happens all the time in a MMO's, From Buying Items to PvPing.

Humans like control. Without order there is chaos. Rules and guidelines inside the gaming world makes players feel safe. Humans do not feel safe if there are no rules. They will shy away from games that do not have rules.

Humans like to identify things and give them labels. Humans can identify people from the items they wear or the class they choose.

Edit: Humans also label by the level of another Playable and Non-Playable Characters in a Online world.

Example:People choosing elf/pretty races are considered. Childish/Loser.

Humans like to be guided in a world. Feeling lost and unguided makes a human uncomfortable.

I don't know a single thing about psychology, This is just a personal Opinion.

    Feeling lost and unguided does one of two things to humans;

    a) makes them thrive

    b) makes them find that thing that's not politics but the other thing that we don't talk about on these forums.

    Humans also love to make sweeping generalizations about what other humans like / are like.

    I have to disagree with your last opinion, as i do not want to be guided in rl, I want to be the guide, also in RL i don't want to feel lost but due to guiding MYSELF instead of being guided i don't get lost that often in the world, but with MMORPG this SHOULD be the oppisite and i love getting lost inside a MMORPG world, so in short many things i expect from RL i do NOT want that in my game. But hey thats just my opinion

    "Humans" like a clear sense of purpose which is rather different than being "guided".

    You can be guided all the way and yet find it completely purposeless.

    Ideally the game should provide mechanisms which will create this sense of purpose tailored to different players' personalities. In other words there should be many potential purposes for different players.
