Vanguard or Age of Conan?

UberfatkidUberfatkid Member Posts: 98

Both games seem interesting and each have their down falls (from what i've read.) I am looking for a game with a huge immersive world with great PvE content, PvP would be a plus as well. I have not played Vanguard but i have played Age of conan for a very short period fo time up to level 5 on my friends computer the fighting was very innovative, I would like to know if Vanguard has any innovating aspects. Also what is the popualtion of these MMO's and what do their futures hold in store?

Thanks for the reply's

Try to get a buddy key for Vanguard and try it.

On a PvE server the only PvP aspect is dueling.

Population on Seradon server is ok, I always see people around although the world could easily support a lot more people.

the population in Age of Conan at the moment will be very high because it's new, on the other hand it doesn't matter because each zone is instanced and you'll only ever be with the same number of people in a zone regardless of if there are 100 or 10,000 people on a particular server.

played vanguard 2 months before AOC came out and it was utterly boring. great graphics but a very plain looking world. combat was eh. AOC is the most amazing looking mmo ive ever seen and i love the combat. plenty of people playing AOC right now. vanguard was like a virtual ghost town while i played it

I prefer Vanguard easily over AOC. AOC has way to many instances for my liking. I like the classes better in Van over AOC, tho I don't mind theirs as well. Vanguard is now ready to rock with all the fixes and AOC has still to go thru what I called "paid beta period" that all newly released mmo games pretty much go thru. Van is more of a sandbox game which I like, and AOC is more linear. The only thing going against VAN is the population, but Xeth and Seradon servers still have more enough players to do whatever you want. With the release of the trial island I think more players will be playing.

If you do play Vanguard don't bother with Sartok (PvP server), I hear the population is really low there. Due to Vanguard being a PvE game the PvP is very unbalanced.

I'd like to see Vanguard merged into one server to be honest and have them open new ones in the future (after trial) if needed. I think that one server could support it's entire subscriber base right now...

I've waited for AoC for over 2 years, and every time I log on, I always notice elements from the game that are missing that Vanguard had. My 1st MMORPG was DAoC, but once I tried VG, it gave me that "new" feeling back (mind you, this is when it was still broken). Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing AoC, because I'm still subscribed and "rolling with the punches." I didn't wait 2 years to just QQ and cancel lol.

But honestly, while playing AoC, I always find myself saying "I wish it was (insert quality here) like Vanguard." Granted, AoC has better graphics and combat system, but the immersion was there in VG. The seamless world was there. The freedom was there.

I left after they took away Varking, the team PvP server (Order vs. Shadow). That killed the whole game for me. Now I'm on AoC's culture PvP.

    Vanguard rocks

From a PVE perspective it must be the best online game on the market.Lets talk abouit Vanguard

A massive world ,thousands of quests ,excellent grahics .A bit like Oblivion but in an online sense .Also you dont have to just adventure and do quests. There is harvesting and diplomacy as ways to become wealthy and famous. Also the Devs have fixed most of the serious bugs .Give it a try ...you wont be disappointed

PS I play AOC and enjoy it but Vanguard at the moment is a much better PVE game :)

You really think so? I dunno. Ive never had a 'wow' moment in AoC like Ive had in VG. I remember one evening my gf and I were on the Raven Cliffs in southern Thestra, and watched the sunset. We were both totally blown away at how beautiful it was. The trees swaying in the breeze is a huge immersion factor for me, which I have sorely missed in every game since. I left VG when they made all named drops BOP. Now that Silius is thinking of reversing that decision, and if he does, then I will definitely be back. Its a great game in spite of all its naysayers.

Yea, for the most part I do. You can tell they really put DX10 to use, especially in the caves where the light shines off the rock. That's one of the main things that "wow'ed" me in AoC. However, to back up your argument too, AoC doesn't have the environment VG does (which adds to the immersion factor).

I hope they bring Team PvP back. *crosses fingers*

They are entirely opposite MMO gamestyles, and depend entirely what you like. Vanguard is more virtual world with much freedom, till AoC is typical game where you have path in front of you that have to pass.

if your a pve player pick vangaurd if your a pvp player pick AoC end of story

if you pick AoC wait one week for them to implemen the PvP levels gear and conquences.

If you pick vangaurd have fun on a game that has only one server worth playing on.

Just bought Vanguard. what server should I play on?

AoC I think.  Vanguard on most server is pretty much a ghost town, and the thing that keeps me away is the character models.  I just can't get into an MMO when I can't get into my character.  AoC still has hundreds of thousands of players.  Everyone said that populations would fall to nothing after the first month, but there are still people everywhere.  Lots of them.  It's also a really fun game, but it does need some lovin and polish.  Watch out taking advice here though as most people are 'The grass is greener on the other side' types.  Many got all hyped about Vanguard then left and trashed it, and then did the same thing to AoC.  Now all of the sudden Vanguard is the best MMO around.  Good luck, and have fun with whatever!

Seriously dont waste money on AOC at the moment... they keep nerfing the hell out of  the characters every 3 days  while simultaneously breaking some element of that newly nerfed characters gameplay... (patches hit test server 10 to 12 hours before released to live servers) then they dont fix the problem they wait till next scheduled patch to fix issues...

If you can overlook that some things you should know:  AOC is not  seamless at all, 1 starting area that you HAVE no choice about following the same scripted quest series, while it does look at it from the 4 archtypes angles after you creat a soldier, rogue, mage, and priest you will hate freaking tortage (aka Torture) ever after, second priests rule the game right now, no matter your class priests can outlast and kill you in pvp, they nuke as hard and in some cases harder than mages while also healing themselves almost instantly over time.  Third combat for melees is best imitated by going to the arcade and putting money in the DDR machine...  my 44 DT to hold aggro in a fight has to press about 150 keys a minute, the innovative combos are like  you hit hotkey for whichever combo you want then have to hit : up left up right  left.. then your combo fires, the  up left and such do damage but its very minor "white" damage, combo damage is only after last directional click and it has a cast time during that  animation firing... if opponent moves out of range, you miss wasted stamina and all those clicks, if you move combo resets doing no damage and your ability is now on cooldown timer.

You cannot go back and do group quests you missed or dungeons you outlevelled, they introduced a couple of patches ago for some unknown reason a code that makes elite mobs hit harder the greyer they are to you,  we assume it was done to prevent the chinese gold farmers from going through elites for the higher money drop but  it made it where a level 29 elite mob hitting a level 29 player hits about 100 dmg, that same mob hitting a level 50 player hits for about 500 dmg... a certain spell caster in one dungeon a level 49 or 59 mob cant remember which one shotted a group of level 65 to 70's by casting an AOE spell that hit for 5kdmg... over 2 to 3k posts have been made asking for a reversal of this patch but so far funcoms only responses have been working as intended and thats it.  Oh and they did this completely without telling anyone, not in the patch notes...  one of the dungeons Sanctum has very nice armor graphics, pretty much the only different looking set in game till level 60ish but requires many many runs to get the full set, so people would outlevel the mobs and go in just for the bosses that they needed to try for this no drop armor then next patch day mobs were just wiping the floor with players and no one knew what was going on...   people say get a group and go then but healers cannot keep up with the added damage you take... mob hits you for 500 dmg while hitting ppl 4 to 5 levels below you for 1 to 200 dmg but its working as intended!!

Gear means absolutely nothing in PVP other than some knockback protection, basically they decided that all your raid gear should not make you any better in pvp at all and standardized everything to that effect, hell gear means nothing in PVE for that matter, until last week stats didnt do anything for your character and they still do not do much of anything to improve you, priests have same defense rating in pve as guardians do just not as many hp...  Oh there is very little itemization in game yet, on the box you see 1500 armor models, only things in game are like 100  to 200 models maybe you char looks very much the same just cookie cutter people running around no choice at all.

Let me just be honest, I dont like the game at all, its pretty but its like that preppy highschool cheerleader, oh so nice to look at, but after 5 minutes you find out just how shallow she really is, then you have to decide whether its worth your time or not, but so far only the EU server forums gets regular feedback from funcom, By the way, if it still appeals to you, dont make a female char or play on an ATI card... females swing slower than male characters evidently in beta it was decided guys should swing faster but less damage, and girls swing slower for more damage.... they removed the more damage when they abandoned that idea but left the swing slower part., and ATI suffer a memory leak that leads to out of memory errors quite often... both of those known since in beta but still not fixed.

I have not played VG in over a year or so, so wont comment on that but I would just advise against AOC for the moment till they get it more solidified and stop changing everyones chars every few days
