First of all, AoC is the top selling MMO right now because THERE'S NO OTHER NEW MMO. So of course it'll be on top. Secondly, you say why do we need 40 or 50-80 content? Not like we'll use it anytime soon. Well, instead of thinking about yourself, think of the poor no-lifers who always rush to the end in every game. I bet they wish the end game content was there, don't you? And apparently it's so easy to level in AoC that many people have already hit 50 and are experiencing the flaws.
You don't buy life insurance for whatever reason, thinking you'll never need it. But then you find out that even if you wanted to, the company decided not to sell it anymore. Wouldn't it make you feel better if it was available even if YOU don't use it? I know Funcom didn't want to push it back again, but I've said it before and I'll say it again...this is how i see it:
"Just release with a head and shoulders! We can fix the rest with Band-aids!"
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
So you buy an MMO, put down $50 expecting epic sieges, crafting, working feats, working STATS. You play the game, it starts out ok, then suddenly you realize that all that stuff doesn't work. Sieges? you had to wait a month, and they are almost unplayable. Crafting? completely broken. Stats and feats still being fixed a month later. and lets not forget looting a level 50 weapon with the same DPS as a level 1 weapon you already have.
So you complain and warn others not to buy the game. you are angry at the company for selling you an incomplete game, and yet some people still think its ok and tell you to go play WoW.
Its a lot like that... oh wait.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
I'm not quite sure why some people feel the need to try to convince others that Age of Gonad is actually a good game. There is a reason that sooooo many people have left already and are upset with the game. It's not like they're making stuff up. Gonad has some problems and frankly isn't that great of a game. Subscription canceled - bring on WAR!
Game's been out for one month. Obviously a joke thread. But I have an analogy for you, for all the folks that think you need to play to end level to know if you like a game.
You and your buddies walk into a restaraunt and order black berry pie. Instead you are served crap pie. You think to yourself, hmmm, this pie was not served with ingredients listed in the menu, namely black berries....and instead of black berries they substitute for poo. Which below is the correct action to take:
a) demand money back, you ordered berry pie not poo pie
b) eat one slice of poo pie to confirm that it is not berry pie
c) eat the whole pie and lick the plate, only then can you say definitively it is infact poo
d) recognize that sometimes in the process of making berry pie, sometimes poo happens, and eat poo with the hopes that the next pie served will be berry as ordered.

apparently, a lot of people thinks option D is the correct course of action.
So, you buy a new car. When you buy it, the car dealer tells you he will replace the tires. He doesn't. A week later, your tires blow out. The dealer says that the tires are ordered, but on backorder. Here is the point where you decide. Most drivers would grumble and buy a spare to hold them over and work around the issue. An AoC naysayer would demand the full purchase price of the car back. It never said you needed a license to drive. It never said that other drivers can bring risks to you. Honestly, the roads outside the dealership were pretty low maintenence. Return your $20.000 car over one bad $50 tire. GJ naysayers. Thanks for bringing the world into perspective for us. AoC has only been the top selling PC game for like six months now. With a track record like that, it has to be bad. They must be doing something wrong, right?

Hold on. I am not stupid enough to buy a car, then wait for them to replace the tires. They either replace the tires or I don't buy. Especially if its a new car and not a used car. If he said the tires were fine when I bought the car and they were not then I sue him for fraud and most likely win. Or threaten to sue him and he will do the right thing because he knows his ass is grass if he doesn't
You analogy actually proves the others sides point not your own. You simply don't realize it. You are saying you got conned and are stupid therefore take it up the ass.
If the car was perfect in everyway and met all manufacturers standards and through some pure 1/1000 fluke the tires blew out and the dealer said hey you are under waranty and we like to treat our customers well so we can and will replace it for you jsut bring on by. Then you do so wait 2 days and they are like oh sorry they are on backorder. Yes then you get a spare and work around the issue. And only then. And farnkly under thos circumstances most dealers now a days give you a rental anyway.
So all in all your analogy has convinced me. Funcom really is fraudulent. I mean I was not saying that before. I just thought they were shady and dishonest. But you know what? You are right they are actually fraudulent just like in your analogy.
Game's been out for one month. Obviously a joke thread. But I have an analogy for you, for all the folks that think you need to play to end level to know if you like a game.

But poo is like any spice too much and it tastes bad. I mean I put too much oregano in some Marinara sauce I was making once and it tasted awful I mean I couldn't even eat it.
So I mean the poo actually makes it taste better. Just like a harsh Death penalty makes games better. It makes it hurt so good ...
So, you buy a new Ford. When you buy it, the Ford dealer tells you he will replace the Firestone tires. He doesn't. A week later, the tread seperates, and your tire blow out, rolling the car on the freeway. The dealer says that the tires are ordered, but on backorder. Here is the point where you decide. Most Ford fanbois would grumble, accept the fact that the contractor parts included on a Ford vehicle are not a Ford responsibility, and buy a spare to hold them over and work around the issue. An AoC naysayer would demand the full purchase price of the car back, and threaten to sue Ford and Firestone for selling them an unsafe product. They would get the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Commission involved. There would be a recall of Firestone tires. Firestone tires would be removed from the market. Firestone would be on the verge of bankruptcy, until they adopt a slick marketing ploy, like renaming their product and retail stores "Bridgestone", to fool unsuspecting consumers. Return your $20.000 car over one bad $50 tire. GJ naysayers. Thanks for bringing the world into perspective for us. It would be smarter if you were like the Ford fanboi, and accept the fact that the original equipment manufacturer has equipped your $20,000 vehicle with a sub standard $50 part, and pay for the replacement out of your own pocket. Firestone had only been the top selling Ford tire supplier for like 60 years now. With a track record like that, it has to be bad. They must be doing something wrong, right?
Fixed.
Maybe next time I will use the exploding gasoline tanks of the Ford Pinto and Crown Victoria, or the GM fuel tanks exploding because they were mounted outside the frame, as an example. That is what I like about fanbois, they set the bar for a product low, and make excuses when a manufacturer fails to achieve it. No wonder we get products that continually strive hard to be mediocre.
No wait. It's like you buy a car, and there's a chicken in the trunk, and you think it's dead, but then it coughs and makes a clucking noise, but then it dies, and then...

I don't understand the big deal. If there isn't enough content for you at the launch of an MMO just wait a few months. You complain that you would rather have them delay the game and release it more polished, but it takes longer to get things fixed and fixed right in beta than when it's live. So instead of waiting on a 6 month delay you can just wait 3 months while those of us that ACTUALLY LIKE THE GAME can play and talk about it constructively. Most of the people on here that troll around (the same 15-20 people with alt accounts too! Bonus!) either never even played the game, or played for two or three days. They just can't leave it alone and have to post here day after day about how bad the game is, and most of their info is outdated. It is ridiculous. Why is it so hard to let people who enjoy something talk constructively about it, and find something you enjoy yourself? There's a concept.
Why would anyone want to start an mmo that is supposedly about competitive PvP 3 months late?

First of all the post that follows yours is a better way to put it. Your post makes absolutely no sense at all. One minute you're talking about tires and the next you're rambling about people crashing into you and having a license.
But I'll play, put in your terms. There was more wrong with my "car" than a tire. AoC has been the top selling game all this time. Yes indeed, but now that people can actually see and play it.... Come back and say it's the top one in a month. By the way I wasn't a naysayer. I hoped and even purchased the collectors edition of this car.
Wow OP, have you even played the game? If you are comparing the major problems of AoC to a minor replacement tire you have not even gotten past lvl 20.

This has to be perhaps the worst car / mmo analogy I've ever read and I've read a few!.
Originally posted by gestalt11 Why would anyone want to play a game that is supposedly about competitive PvP and therefore offers a supposedly separate way to level via PvP and promises not to let PvE interfere with PvP and yet only has PvE progression?
huh??? never understood the 'MMO is a car" analogies, I certainly don't understand yours. Let's try an analogy that better parallels Online games. You see a Cable TV company advertising 80 channels for $15/month. Great you sign up, of course there is a $50 installation fee, that's standard. So they install you turn on the TV, and WTH?? only 40 of your 80 channels are working!! Your repeated calls to the cable company's Customer Service branch go unanswered. Finally you do get a hold of someone and they tell you "Yeah sorry we cant give you those 40 channels your missing for another 3-6 months". In the real world you are refunded your deposit/installation fee and you go sign up with Dish Network instead. Does this analogy make better sense??
Isn' t this just a rationalised version of a similar dodgy analogy on the 'AoC Game Evolution' thread?
Admittedly the monthly rental cost is now more realistic, although the $50 installation would only really apply to people who bought the CE. The basic flaw remains though, not all TV channels are the same and would do you really choose TV providers by quantity rather than quality?
This is the point where it all becomes subjective, the people who enjoy the game (including myself) don't mind if not all content is available 'Right Here, Right Now' because we are happy to enjoy the 'Quality Channels' that have already been provided. Yes, it would have been better if everything was available from the start, but unfortunately all MMO launches are like this now so unless you always wait six months before playing any new MMO you may as well get used to it. Business in RL 'sucks' so why should you expect the gaming industry to be that different. Sad but true!
Another factor is that MMOs are much harder to balance than stand alone games because unlike AIs, real players are highly unpredictable . Real players find bugs & exploits that weren't identified previously, plus the majority might prefer different things than the initial design/beta-test foresaw. The real players are the ones paying the bills, so why should content be cast in stone even in the first few months?
Finally with regard to the 'Get a refund & sign up with Dish Network instead' part, unless you wanted to wait for 'War' to come out there aren't any other new games to switch to. Most players who tried AoC are at least a bit tired with their current MMO or they probably wouldn't have bothered. Also, whereas cable TV companies are in the main all just reselling the same content, no two MMOs are exactly the same.
Naysayers will of course scream 'foul' at the above, but just because they are unhappy that doesn't mean their opinions count more than others that enjoy the game immensely.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
Good job missing the point genius. Let me simplify it for you. The whole point of these stupid analogies is to get this point across: we were promised something we didn't get, you wouldn't put up with that with other "services" why MMOs?

That would only really apply to PvP as an exploitative gankfest rather than an integral part of the MMO game world, which is I believe why Funcom are currently changing the PvP system.

I assume you were referring to my post. How many other 'services' in RL have you had to organise? Maybe in the USA all customer service is perfect, but in the UK I have to argue with suppliers of services all the time, and they are all uniformly bad so it doesn't matter who you deal with.
When I first installed AoC, I had one of the faulty 'CE Registration Keys' so I emailed Funcom & they sent a replacement key in less than 20 minutes! Compared to Telephone, Cable, Internet providers in the UK that makes them almost saintly!
I am glad that your world is far more rose-tinted than mine.

Well I am amazed that you got a response. One of the first patches broke the game for me. I emailed them and have yet to receive a single email back other than the automated response I got within 5 minutes saying that they had received my email. That was over 3 weeks ago. Ingame CS is just as bad judging from the posts on the AoC forums.
I ended up having to reformat my drive ( it needed cleaning up anyway) to get the game to even run. The thread on the tech forums discussing my issue was stickied and is now 36 pages long and FC still has not figured out what causes the problem for so many people. Now it was not the fact that the game broke that caused me to cancel, rather it was a lack of response from Funcom. I just got ythe feeling that once they sell the box they really do not give a s*** past that point the game will run for you or not.

I miss DAoC
