Technical issue w/two boxed set up

My wife and I have played several mmo's (including Vanguard ) on our networked pc's and never had any issues. We have not been able to play AOC together at all because when we both log in the latency meter turns red and then boots us both. I don't think its my router since i have not had this issue before with any other game.
Anyone have info or thoughts on this?

i play with my wife too, via a router.
It could be just the game itself, giving you lag spikes.
What kind of internet connection do you have? is it Cable? How long had your modem been online?
I have cable and I have no issue when I play by myself. Soon as the wife logs in we both start experiencing super high latency. In fact after we get booted I get limited connectivety to the internet and I have to disconnect, unplug and restart everything.
