Well I would hope they are not running on non-beta drivers as the GTX 280 is already for sale.
AMD dominates their price ranges they released in. 4850 > 9800GTX at the same price and 48 have a $100k sports car so that they can look good. Newsflash, not everybody has the money for a $100k car and not everybody is going to want to spend $650 on a video card, especially when there are cheaper options that offer great performance as well.

AMD is putting way too much confidence in the average buyer then.  Not everyone is going to go look at benchmarks.  Many will look and say the GTX 280 is the most powerful, the the version of that card in the $200 range must be the most powerful.  The car anology is a bad one because sports cars are puree luxury, and don't offer anything any driver needs other than status.  A stronger video card provides very tangible improvements.

Not saying they're putting out bad cards, just saying that their strategy is questionable.  Also when it comes to video cards a 14% gap is a lot.[/b][/quote]

    No, no and no.

Mid-range is the market. It is less than 5% of the gamers in the world, that buy a new high-end PC every second or third year. A "high-end" PC, cost more than double of a mid-range PC.

If a High-end PC is 100% performance. Then you will now see Mid-range PC perform 80-90% as good as a High-end PC.

The extreme people that buy dual Raptor discs(or SSD's) and put them in raid, while having a Intel Extreme Quad CPU, and dual/triple/quad graphic card setup. They will be happy to see the new nVidia cards.

But the broad market that is gaming. ATi will be back on track with them.

I actually put together a new "mid-range" PC, with a C2D CPU, 4870 and other mid-range part, and I thought to myself: "Wow, I just bought a high-end laptop, a PS3... But I can still see fit for a whole new desktop, that will serve me well."

That's how good performance they have, compared to the price.

Hmm, I've been noticing something for a few months now, and I always thought it was coincidence. But the ATI cards seem to be way more stable at fps, as Nvidia seems to be having the highest maximum fps, but also the lowest minumum fps. Giving both a somewhat equal average fps, I wonder if that normal. :)

nVidia used to have better drivers then ATI cards, however that flip flopped after the HD2xxx / Geforce8xxx Series.  The uncontinous fps could be the result of simply drivers.

All AAA games also used to have the nVidia logo embedded when you opened the game, since game companies optimized their games for their drivers.

Now that you mention it, ATI performs 30% better on Direct3D (DirectX),
