I don't normally care enough to post here and, in fact, the sad state of the AoC forum here has completely turned me away but hopefully if some sane people are testing the waters and have stumbled upon this slop bucket of nastiness looking for guidance I can dissuade them from being turned away from Age of Conan. I run barely above the minimum requirements for AoC and experience no problems. The game is fun but certainly not intended for players that want to max loot or for those who derive self esteem from success in a video game. The combat system is elegant and is only "button mashing" for those who are not inclined to learn the subtleties. The community can be annoying but so can people. I am perplexed by the negativity and I am only thankful that it did not stop me from buying the game. To those who continue to post their vitriol, it is well within your rights to do so but perhaps your energies would be better spent promoting something you like rather than attacking something you don't. All the best
Misfits ...mm!
Okay I'll bite. The gaming public as in most other areas of life can be seperated into three major and distinct groups. Users, Doormats & Normals ( although I use the term normal simply because it's the largest group ).
Users are those people that don't give a crap about anyone else and who will gladly step on the heads of the masses to achieve what they want. They do this because the only heads usually available to be stepped on are those belonging to the doormats and that group carry huge signs saying head available, please step here. A few normals also get caught up in the users upward climb but these are usually there to kick the bugger in the nuts on his way down instead of blindly trying to give him another leg up like the doormats do. You get the idea.
How does this aquaint to the gaming world? Well the User is the developer / publisher that releases a faulty product driven by marketing and media hype in order to rake in as much cash in as short a space of time as possible. Funcom are guilty of this with AoC. The game was nowhere near ready for release, had known issues and missing content that FC blatantly lied about and quite frankly bore no resemblance to what the media circus and PR was shoving down everyones throats. Sure the game may one day become what it should have been at release but that is no excuse for what hit the shelves.
The Doormats are those that are happily oblivious to all this. It wouldn't matter if a Funcom representative turned up on their doorstep waving an axe with the remains of thier pet dog still dribbling down his chin. All they would see is that elusive light at the end of the tunnel and remain blinded by it. They are the kind of people that never ever take anything back to the shop or complain that something isn't right, and they are destined to forever be walked on.
Thankfuly the majority of people belong in the normals group. They do take faulty items back for a refund. They do complain when something isn't right and they try at all costs to avoid being stepped on by the users. This of course isn't always possible but the normals are also a vengeful lot and they will find some way of getting that User back for the indignity forced upon them.
On these boards the majority, as in life are normals which is why the majority of AoC posts are negative. These people, like myself and although a little dubious fell for the FC hype. In doing so we bought the game and were stepped on. Guess what? It became payback time very quickly. The 1st payback appeared as cancelled accounts all over the place, the second as posts on various forums telling people just what was wrong with the game, posts that were and are for the most part honest experiences and to call those making them misfits is just plain wrong.
However, you may disagree with my three groups and think that the world is seperated into only two, the complaining misfits and the happily oblivious. I think of those two choices I would rather be a misfit, at least I wont get a flat head from having it repeatedly stood on.

I actually read that crap. Can I have my two minutes back?
age of conan is unfinished and buggy...don't let the fanbois change your mind!
*see what i did there?*
Yes it is...but for casual gamers it is fun. I don't deny that perhaps waiting for it to be a bit more polished is indeed a good idea. I think perhaps the OP is speaking about the tone of how it will always be a crap game is getting kind of old. We all know mmo's are buggy and unfinished when they are released...we are at almost 6 weeks now if you expect it to be perfect you've got more than issues and have moved on to volumes! I agree that the PvP endgame is a slap in the face for many...not me personally as It's not my cup of tea...if pvp is your thing definetly hold off!
For casual gamers looking at a couple hours a day, maybe more on the weekends...its lots of fun.
Currently Playing: FFXIV:ARR Looking Forward to: Wildstar
Please be advised that most polls I have seen both on these forums and the Official Age of Conan forums had at least 30% of people who purchased this game not going past the free month.
Of the peak of 17845 of Xfire players, they now list of average between 9000 to 10,000 players.
We are not misfits but a large % of players that found AoC buggy, incomplete, and even in some cases not fun.
I do not think that AoC is a total wash. I just feel that it was released at least 6 months early. I reccommend that you wait until the free trials come out to try this game.

Speaking as a casual player myself, very well said & I totally agree with you.
The problem with negative posts on these boards aren't people who write constructive reviews or critiques, it's the 'Hatebois' that just constantly make 'Beavis & Butthead' style retarded posts.
I have read many intelligently written negative posts on which I agreed with a lot of points despite still enjoying & supporting the game myself. Unfortunately these are outnumbered by the torrents of hate from those just making juvenile remarks, still droning on about Beta or making knee jerk posts on any news story no matter how slight that could be interpreted as AoC or Funcom are doing badly.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
If you don't mind a more console oriented mmorpg that is even easier than WoW then AoC will probably be very fun for you. If that sounds like something you won't like it probably won't.
If you are looking for a complex game in any way I would avoid AOC though.
Some people are going to love it, others aren't. It is really that simple.
no offense to the OP or anyone who enjoys this game, but the game is not finished. and when i say it's not finished, I don't mean the quests are unfinished, there isn't enough content or animations suck. no, when I say the game is unfinished I mean it's programming is horrible. if you are lucky enough to have a computer that doesn't get sick of aoc's horrible programming, good for you.
but the vast majority of people, are playing this game on 30 and below fps, people with super computers getting no more than 15 fps. and don't tell me the human eye can only register 20 because it's bullcrap, even if it WERE true, you can still FEEL it because it's on a computer, and anything below 30 will lag your computer, which is why 30 is the MINIMUM on consoles, because you can't sell a game with shitty performance.
the negativity aoc gets is DESERVED. they shot their own foot, gamers didn't do it. so come in here and preach all you want about how great the game is.. because there are more people who are upset with conan than actually enjoy it.
people don't think WAR is going to be the end all be all game, they are hoping it will be.. and if it performs as crappy as aoc does, then it will get the same negativity, and it will also have the the same type of people who will defend every broken aspect about it..
