You know, every game has a rocky start, conan is no exception. Anyone who has been around the gaming world for any length prior to 2000 knows this. No game is perfect, and no game will cater to any one class of players. A lot of people claim they had high hopes for AoC, and were very disappointed. And thus, start bashing the game when in actuality, it isnt that bad. Don't have high hopes for videogames and you won't be disappointed as much.
What makes a game "good" in gamer terms? To me, it means having fun. Any game that brings me enjoyment is a good game. It doesn't matter if the pvp or pve sucks. If I enjoy grinding my levels out, and or doing raids, even pvping, its definately OK in my book. There are several other games I could be playing for different aspects if the current does not apply in that area.
I have had nothing but a good time in AoC. It hasn't given my much problems aside from DCs in the FoD. While I am sure others are not as fortunate as myself, im also sure FC is doing what it can to fix whatever the major issues are causing the most problems for players.
I am going to use WoW as an example, because it seems most today play it. I remember in alpha 2 the game being unplayable to me. Then as progression went along into open beta, it got better. Upon release, I still had to struggle to play, especially anywhere near a main city. So many bugs, broke content and pvp. But low and behold, WoW in all its glory is holding top ranks in many players books. WoW has been out what, 3 years now?
Give it time, every game has its ups and downs. If in two months the major issues are not fixed, you may have valid reason to be upset. I for one will not be =P. Developing a game isnt as easy as many think. And I am pretty amazed at FC for such a wonderful game. The graphics are just . It takes time, give it time. Or, if you think in all your glory you could do better, please, start scripting your arse away with the 1's and 0's and the EFA's. Once I see your perfect code for an mmo suchas AoC, I will bow down to you! Belive me, it's not an easy task.
So, in all my own glory from the above statements (woot) let the flaming begin! Please, be gentle, my suits getting thin. But please, try to keep it civil. Upon debates, not "OMFG YOU BOOB, i mean NOOB"...=P. Yes, there might be other threads like this, but not mine! I'm bored at my CISCO class, entertain me while Im on break .

I agree it's a good game and there is a lot of fun to be had in it if the quest based games are your style. I would say give it a couple of months and then check with it again.
The problem is many here are jaded and wouldn't try it again even if FC payed them.
I think its more of people wanting the perfect game, which isn't going to happen. People put entirely too much hype and hope into games now a days and when its not delivered, bash the shit out of it. Makes it hard to get friends to swap before buddy keys due to the ammount of people crying wolf of it being a bad game.
I'm totally going to laugh, when the same exact thing happens to WAR...im going to laugh big time lol. I'm really looking forward to WAR, just as much as I had been for AoC. Can't wait. Will I be disappointed? Nope. I have two 250 disk cases full of games if I get bored.
I think the doom from WAR will come from it not being what people expect, but I think they will have a complete and polished game. If the people excited have played DAoC and WoW and expect a combination of the two then I can see it being amazing for them, but for many people DAoC style gameplay isn't going to be what they expect.
For me I had fun with WoW for a few weeks, and I liked DAoC for a couple months, but I can't see myself playing it for the long run. I think it's gonna be a great game though for hundreds of thousands of people.
Funcom encouraged, marketed, and endorsed that hype. Don't blame players for the companies mistakes.
Hey jatobi if i told u i was goin to give u 1 million dollars for the hell of it and i am a very reliable person would u not believe it? If a company told you your car could fly and showed u videos of it flying would u not believe it could fly? If a video game company tells u that you can make player cities and attack then they show you videos of it happening then say it will be in launch would you believe them?
Darkfalls so revolutionary it uninstalls itself.
OP, people like you are why games get released MISSING content! Quit seeing what YOU want to see or read, and pay attention to what people are saying.
No one has said they want a perfect, bug free game!!
Ok, now that we have that cleared up.. People are complaining because so much is broken, missing or not what they were told..
Broken crafting, items are a joke...Broken sieges, theres a you tube vid with Funcom saying there will be hundreds of players fighting each other in sieges, but then we find out it's 48v48.. DX10 not in..
Im not going to try to name everything, I dont have that kind of time, but lay off of the "no perfect game" BS, it's old. People want what they were told/hyped they would get. People are tired of paying to beta while these things get added later on.

As for FC being the reason of the hype? Hype is made from people expressing how great a game will be, and causing high hopes. Advertisement adds to it, but when can you ever believe advertisement these days? Always fine print you cannot see but magically appears when you go to court. We will get was we were supposed to get to the best FC can give us. It may not be instant, but it will come.
As for my disks....I simply own almost every console there is. PS3, Xbox360, GC, and the PC (Disk wise) with others that well, are in boxes. So, yea, I have a lot of games =P.
I have to agree with the OP actually. I never believed the hype, we got pretty much what I expected, I'm not rushing through the game, therefore have little reason to be disappointed.
And trust me, WAR will disappoint a lot of folks too, but likely for different reasons. No game can live up to the players expectations any more, they are just too high.

Sadly in the case of AoC and Funcom, it was Funcom who brought the hype. They made sure that any info that painted AoC in a negative light was quickly dealt with. They retained the NDA till the game launched. They delete any negative posts from the official forums.
They also promised way more than they could deliver for launch, stating that said items would be ready at launch. They even told us testers that they had a better build of the game in internal testing that we would see at launch to ensure the game was fresh for everyone.
They lead the hype campaign, they baited people with promises and videos of things they couldnt deliver upon and they constantly dodged any questions about the gameplay.
Its not the same fan created hype that the poor Darkfall people have been falling for. This was tactical corporate hype.
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Funcom encouraged, marketed, and endorsed that hype. Don't blame players for the companies mistakes.
I agree, FC brought alot of this on themselves by building up the hype and then not delivering. I am still amazed they didn't follow LoTRO and offer Lifetime subs for $199 for the founders. They would have made so much more money off of the early adopters and even though they may have disliked the quality of the game at launch would have been more forgiving, knowing they will be around for the duration of the game as its patched and improved. Now all they got from alot of those players are the box money.
I disagree with that statement soooo much it's not even funny.
If this were true you wouldn't be seeing ratings of 10 so frequently. MGS 4 wouldn't have got a 10, Crysis wouldn't have got a 10, GTA 4 wouldn't have got a 10, etc. etc. etc.
Your statement is huuuugely inconsistent with data about games and how many people are satisfied with what they get. Especially within the last 10 years.
The reason people aren't jumping on the AoC bandwagon has nothing to do with "no game being good enough."
It has to do with the fact that people nowadays are educated gamers. They watch what comes out, they watch when things come out. They've played polished games. They've played buggy games that needed a few months to get on track.
You throw a game that is feature INcomplete at them, and doesn't have the main things that were promised by the developer and you'll get what you're seeing with AoC.
I guarantee you had AoC released with a shit ton of bugs, but had every feature they promised in the game, people would be singing entirely different tunes.

Too bad we are talking MMOs here. Not console games. Once a console game is released, its do or die, have whats promised or not. MMOs can be updated at any given point. What was promised, "will" be here, eventually. If it isnt right away, no big deal. As long as it gets in soon.
Ever thing about why they didnt release the game with every aspect they wanted to? Take for instance, the sieges. It may be capped right now, and they promised hundreds vs hundreds. Maybe because so many people are having performance issues?
Consider the whole pie not just the slice thats half eatten.

Welcome to the age of consoles with hard drives. Downloadable content now allows mmo devs, and regular game makers as well, to effectively crap on you with buggy unfinished games as well.

You proved my point even further. The stigma that exists about MMOs always being incomplete never referred to "Game Features" it referred to quest bugs, performance issues, lag, CS problems, graphical glitches.
You can't honestly say that it's "OK" for a company to say XYZ "WILL" be in the game. And then with no warning whatsoever, not even a "We weren't able to put this in like we wanted" they just leave whole features out of the game.
For it to be "OK" for any game, no matter what the format, to be released with features missing that were shown in videos and promised, is a damn shame, and shows just how little people expect from an MMO.
I can't think of a game except for DnL and Vanguard that released with so much content and features missing. And suddenly it's "OK??"

They're patching twice a week for crying out loud.
You people cry about the bugs.....
They push up the updates to get the game where it needs to be.
What the hell is the purpose of all these negative posts repeated over and over again by the same people?
Some of you old haters need to hang it up because you're wasting more time complaining about a game that brought you nothing but anger, then you ever spent playing it......
Actually keep complaining about how games hurt your feelings. If this game hurts this much Real life might just be too much for you.
Your forgetting though that Blizzard has a very large, and extremely loyal fanbase...whereas Funcom does not.

Sorry to say bud, but having a BUG in a game, does not make it incomplete. ANY game, at any point within its life span, has bugs. You're saying WoW is incomplete, you're saying that DoAC is incomplete, you're saying Diablo is incomplete, should I continue?
You said yourself it would be better to throw in all the features and have a ton of bugs than not all the features.. Read your own post, hell, read it from my reply. Came from your own mouth, or hands rather.
"I guarantee you had AoC released with a shit ton of bugs, but had every feature they promised in the game, people would be singing entirely different tunes."
About performance issues. Sorry to say, its a very high end machine game. With the graphics in this game, you need top dollar gear. I built a new system just to run AoC...and guess what? No performance issues what so ever. Every setting is maxed. I never lag unless a zone crashes, and that is being fixed. What graphical glitches? I have none.
So, either build an up to date computer, or QQ.
Kthanks and goodnight.

Its sometimes good to re-read what you originally post, so you dont make yourself look like an idiot.
