Its their freaking server, they can do with it what they want.

Some of ya'll are batty on expectations. Think for a second. Do you think any corporation wants to publically broadcast an issue or problem without having control over the format in which it is delivered?

If you are having an issue and they know about it, I am sure they dont want the forums filled of ranting --or even nice commenting-- about it.

IMHO, the only thing wrong is that they should put a sticky addressing any issue a player might have in a "possible issues" thread.

If you want to talk semi-freeely about the game do it here --> not there. LMAO. Thats like going to Microsoft's corporate office with the TV news (with air time they are paying for) and thinking they're going to allow just anyone to sit on their property on live TV and discuss/debate/complain about their products.

If Funcom wants to play the shut us all up game maybe its time for a revival of Funcom RX

buying groceries doesn't mean a grocery store is going to let you stand inside the building and talk bad in any way about their store, their products, or their staff. They will escort you outside with security, then you can join the rest of the world's crazies by standing on a sidewalk and talking trash. Or in other words, you will become the real-world equivilent to a forum poster.

I'm not sure it makes it wrong.

Game companies post their rules. There are reasons they have these rules. Community or not, if players blatantly break these rules, they are going to be removed.

And I've seen how some people "post their concerns", only to get banned and then come to a site like this only to cry that they were simply posting their concerns and the evil big bad game company took away their human dignity and liberties. Only for me to verify that what they did post was in fact inflammatory at best and in some cases obscene at worst.

I've seen several game companies that have indicated that if you have a problem to contact support. But for some reason players feel the forums are the actual way to address the game company. In some cases this might be the case but more often than not some CM comes and says "please make a support ticket so that your concern can be placed with the appropriate people".

But this doesn't happen, someone will rant on a forum, it will be locked, they will open up another post and ask why it was locked, the new post will be locked and they will be banned.

One could argue that it's a two way street as far as the creation of community. But the reality is that posters assume the "customer" role and they want to rant so the companies assume the "company role' and per their forum rules they ban.

Did you read my original post?  The point is that as a last resort members of my guild posted on the forums in a sendible mature way only to be gagged by funcom.

This is after days and weeks of emails and petitions ... there is simply no way to contact these people. They just totally blank you and then gag you have had enough of the ignoring.

    Yes, I read your post.

I was commenting (and you can see that in the post) on what that one particular gentleman said.

I have absolutely no doubt that you had problems with Funcom as far as petitions. I wanted to post on the forums and sent in 2 petitions and never receive any response. And I never could post on the forums.

Funcom has customer service issues. However the issue here is that they were remiss in responding back to a large amount of customers. They removed your posts because it most likely treaded on some forum rule.

as far as whether they were mature posts, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. But again, I've seen people post bannable posts on the Lineage 2 forums only to say on this forum that they were being "mature". Sometimes "gamers" tend to have an odd idea as to what mature is.

What Funcom should have done is to remove your posts (assuming that indeed they broke some sort of forum rule or that they were not not permissable for some other reason) and then contact you, ask that you don't post again BUT that they would look into your petitions as obviously something has gone wrong with the system.

That is what I would do as CM. This way the forum stays true to its rules but you get to have your issues looked into.

That would indeed have  been a great way to deal with the issue, they would be praised by myself and others for it.

It is infact the kind of response I had hoped for.

Yeah this is more like it.

I have been playing these games for about 12 years now and I in fact tired of spending large amounts of money and being treated like trash. Revive it IMO .

I did have the thought that maybe I would approach some of the gaming magazines and show them just how bad it has got .

How do you get treated like trash? I'd really be curious to know. Ive been playing MMORPG's for about 8 years and Ive never felt Ive been treated unfairly by a company. I was even there for the SWG 2x revamp debacle and while it sucked I knew that they were doing what they wanted with their own property, so I had no real right to bitch, and if I did it wouldnt do any good.  I just dont get the sense of entitlement so many people online have, especially when it comes to games. You pay your 40-50 bucks upfront and 15 bucks a month. What do you think that because you ponied up a paltry sum of cash that they should treat you like a god? This is not realistic in the scheme of things. Ive been treated just as well during my time in MMORPG's as I would have if I spent the equivalent amount at any retailer you could name off (well except maybe for some places in Thailand that I wont name off).

During those 8 years Ive had to use customer service maybe 5 times, all have met my expectations and the issues I had have been resolved. I read all the time about so many online companies have crap customer service, and I just dont buy it. Its people going into with the sense of entitlement I talked about, probably making laughable demands, or asking CS to fix something that was the players own fault to begin with the majority of the time. Some of them probably have a point but shit happens and you move on. I dont doubt that AoC has its share of tech issues and the CS is not responding in a timely manner right now. The game just released! Its going to have issues, and the CS dept is going to have their hands full for quite awhile until the storm calms.

Do you mean a sense of entitlement such as being able to play the game that I am paying for ? And other such huge demands as being able to talk  to someone about the problems so that they can be fixed?

Those kind of huge demands do you mean?

Or is that acceptable in your world... should i just mebe slack off totally play something else and mail them cash each month to keep them sweet?

Only WoW has so far delivery a satisfactory customer service IMO. They clearly took the time and effort (and money)  to put an infrastructure in place properly before the game started.

If I had a nickel for every mmo that I played from launch that I saw someone say this.... I'd have like... 25 cents :p
