This is the best guess. Exact month that WoW was released and it kind of takes advantage of the christmas season.
IMHO MMO's are a bit diffrent of a beast then most games so while yes xmass season is good most people who are going to play sayed MMO at least at release will be rdy to get it nomatter what time of year it comes out.
I duno i thought blizz would go with december to do the whole cold lich king thing.
