SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

Star Wars Galaxies is celebrating it's 5th anniversary, and they have a host of events, in-game gifts, and contests.

It's been an amazing five years since gamers across the world began jumping online to adventure in a galaxy far, far away… and now it's time to celebrate!

To commemorate Star Wars Galaxies' fifth year anniversary, there will be events, parties, in-game gifts, and your chance to vote in the Create a Painting Contest!

Five Year Anniversary Gifts

The Empire Strikes Back in-game painting and Novaless Soni-Optics Goggles

Citizens across the galaxy can receive two gifts when they log in during the anniversary celebration! Use the radial menu on the Emperor's Statue or Yoda's Fountain during the Empire Day event to receive two anniversary gifts.

The Five Year Painting is a replica of The Empire Strikes Back movie poster, sure to add a cool style to anyone's decor!

The Novaless Soni-Optics Goggles Mark V are one-of-a-kind. Originally created to assist with aiming long range rifles, the goggles were not widely manufactured due to problems that prevented any real combat use. These goggles are considered a novelty item as a result and are showed off for looks.

Actually they are completely wrong about the 5 years.

They wiped the original game 3 years ago, hence it is now only a 3 year anniversary for the current game.

Since I have a station account, I still occassionally check on my old server, I was shocked the other day, I actually saw another player when wandering around.....pretty hard to play on a server where no one makes anything anymore, have not found a stocked vendor in a long time.

The true SWG died Nov 05 this is not a 5year anniversary

I agree, it's not even remotely the same game it was 5 years ago. I started on the Shadowfire server and was recently there during the 'free vet days', not a soul in sight. Well, I guess they're going by the fact that a handful of subscribers hung in there. LoL! newbs ftw!

    ......

You can get a Star Wars Movie Poster....... inside of the Star Wars Galaxy?

    Thats..... so...... stupid.......

I hate this game, I hate it so much....

As others have indicated, the game that launched five years ago was mortally wounded a bit more than three years ago, and the coup d'grace was issued on 15 November 2005.

Oh, the world is the same, but everything inhabiting it has changed.

Most certainly not for the better.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

    [Player from Bria]

I sure would love to play the game pre-CU/NGE but as a non hardcore gamer, I have fun in it the way it is today - I'm a fan of SW, that's 95% of the reason I play it.

I checked Lord Vader's hourly visit to Theed and found it awesome! I went to see Leia's visit in Coronet and it wasn't so amazing; besides, the Rebels seemed a bunch of kids using macros to call and store their broken vehicles, disturbing lots of people with the explosion sounds and screen shakes. I signed for the Empire soon after and am having fun controlling key points in Naboo, Corellia. I look forward to a Restuss battle!

If someone decides to try the trial, send me a PM here in mmorpg.com - I'll be glad to introduce you to SWG!

agreed SWG/SONY are known as the biggest piece of garbage in the universe.

this is what you get when you think you know better that the players that suscribe

the only reason SWG is still running is because sony is so big and indifferent  it doesnt see  SWG died a LONG GLONG TIME AGO IN A GALAXY FAR FAR AWAY

the only ones that play now are those lame PVP dorks that just use SWG as an arena and not as an mmo

make a world, not a game, we dont want another game.

Hmm, I still play and I am not a PvP player. Been there since launch and don't plan on leaving.

The Meatlump Themepark is cool and I love the sense of humor the Devs added to the NPCs in it.

Good grief.. they're just trying to inject real world wackiness (read more lame attempts at copying Blizzards formula for success) into this travesty of a game.  The only problem is.. that's not the Star Wars universe nor was it the original vision for this game that made it so successful initially!

    Somebody kill this thing already!

SWG needs to be packed up and replaced by a successor. A successor that will take advantage of the advancement in Pc hardware that's moved on in leaps and bounds since SWG was developed. What Pc hardware allows developers to do today is perfect for truly creating an immersive Star Wars MMO. One that truly allows players to experience the Star Wars universe in all its dimensions. Atmosphere flight, Planet to space seamless transitions and real time combat system on a engine that's meant to for it are just some of the endless possibilities.

It's a pity, as SWG is a Star Wars MMO that was made before it time, made at a time when Pc hardware was holding it back from true Star wars immersion. The question remains, just where best in the star wars time line to place it? If it's an era with few Jedi, then do something like the Archlord system, where only a few players can be a Jedi a time until somebody else gets the chance to be be a jedi by a system put in place to allow players to challenge them for it when their time is up, to the winner goes the honour to be one for a bit.

<shakes head> This isn't a celebration it's like watching a corpse that just doesn't know when to stop twitching. For me Nov.15 2005 was the day that ultimately caused me to exit the MMO market. It took a couple of years of drifting from crap game to crap game, but finally I couldn't bear any more disapointments and quit.

It all worked out in the end I unplugged myself and found out how much more fun it was to spend time with my wife. Maybe one day if the devs ever put the power back into the hands of players to mold the universe and control their own destiny I might return. Till then I can do nothing but shake my head at one carbon copy stale guided tour after another. Wondering why people keep buying the same crap over and over just repackaged in different pixels?

/SIGH....what a suprise they are giving away more little useless tokens of affection for the ramaining 6 people who actually play.

SWG should be the biggest lesson to any online game maker... never never never cater to 6 year old kids. Every one of them were screaming and crying to be a jedi. The old SWG had character by making jedi's pretty rare, but when they succumbed to the kiddie headaches and changed the entire game by flooding it with baby jedi's, it completely jumped the shark and was never the same since.

I did love the housing and crafting part of it, even had some chicks cyber me in my bedroom. Ah the good ole days.

CU was a change but it was bearable though we still had all our profs and skills IMO it died in NOV

SWG was DOA, why do you think they did the revamp in the first place? Read any dev interview (current or former) on the subject, it had to do with the fact that SWG was dying far before the NGE which was a hasty, misguided attempt to salvage it / revitalize it.

this game is a joke. not to mention the joke is on SOE. like others this game died in in 2005. Since the changed the game completely from what it originally was. but who really cares. i consider this humor as its quite comical that with straight face SOE can state they had an amazing 5 years lol. got to give them that, they know how to put up a front. moving on. let the 6 other people that play this game enjoy the left overs of what was truly experienced, and remembered by the real vets, the real community that made this game what it was.

SWG RIP July 2003- Nov 2005 you will be missed.

Freaking comedy.  I was so gung ho to post but after reading the thread there is nothing else I can really add other than...

Powered by SOE, the living hell for dead video games.

Oh PS... Died? Nov 2005 there was a crime committed, SOE murdered SWG.

Couldn't agree more, swg was/is the most epic failure in the world of MMO's that i have ever heard of.

When you see a partnership with only greeders to make a game the result is this what you guys who didn't play see.

There is not one vet that talks good things about the game.

I am another vet, played in bloodfin, grinded my jedi with 32 professions (the last was bounty hunter, the most pain in the neck profession to master)

SOE invited me to leave the game (is the only way to say politely the way the wiped and betrayed the player base) and after this day i promised myself to never more even look to a game launched by SOE.

Launched the game in beta status, continued patching the game, there was a major patch every month, a minor patch every week, insane server downtimes, every patch fixed 10 bugs and created 100 more.

They deserve it because they didn't respect the players that was playing the game in that time

I guess what passed by the head of these idiots was something like "hey, we have a Star wars mmo! why we don't have the 5 million subscribers that world of warcraft with cartoon graphics and easy gameplay has? lets delete everything, try to copy them and lets go for the world domination in the MMO market! wohoooooooooooooooooooo"

But they were wrong, the mistakes are still there.

For those who wanna remembers, this is the pre revamp jedi trees, cya and sorry by my crap english

    http://www.calil.net/pre_revamp_jedi_trees.htm

    Hugs from brazil.
