Not that I consider these games mmo's so to speak, but I had a question about the games and I figured someone here would know the answer.
Was the original Sacred (and possibly the upcomming Sacred 2) the type of game where someone would host a game on their PC and people would just drop into the game, or is it played on a dedicated server?
The reason I ask is that I usually use a handful of character names and was wondering if names are unique. If I want to name my character Johndoe, for example, but someone else made one named Johndoe before me, I would have to choose another name?

The first Sacred essentially had the same setup as Diablo II. You could play a character solo on your computer or invite a few friends and have them connect manually. Or you could play a character stored on the company's server that would need a unique name, like Battle.net. There was no method to transfer between the two.
I know precisely zero information about Sacred 2.
