I would like to echo the original poster's despair. SWG is the only MMO I have ever played, from launch until October of 2003. My wife recently wanted to play something to alleviate her boredom while on maternity leave, so I downloaded the free trial of SOE's games in order for her to play EQ2. I decided to see how my old character was on SWG over the weekend.
The new interface is certainly a step back, as well as the dumbing down of the game and implementation of so few starting classes. Eh whatever. The thing I was most dismayed about was the fact that my character was essentially useless. I had worked hard on obtaining a nice large Naboo house filled with all the different types of armors as well as a massive collection of strange and eccentric items, from Nightsister drops to chicken legs and everything else; it had been the intention from the start to make a museum and darn if I wasnt proud of my collection. I still had the waypoints to my houses in the datapad as well as the creatures I had tamed (minus those nifty little Rebel soldier pets I once had, they seemed to have disappeared as well). Quite some stuff!
Too bad my houses were long gone and items lost forever per SOE's customer support. So no real walk down memory lane was available. Coupled with the fact the new UI was difficult to control even after trying to rebind my keys, and the fact that combat was just silly. I said to hell with it, and decided to give away all my stuff in my datapad and inventory from the old days +the veteran rewards for coming back and the 50k credits I had. I thought it was a nice thing to do to recirculate some things to help some poor guy or girl out. Only problem is I couldnt find ANYONE around Coronet to give it all away to. So I decide to post on the SOE boards about my free stuff giveaway. It took 20 minutes of switching from Firefox to IE to figure out that I couldnt even post on their board with a free trial, nor could I pm anyone there!
So long story short, what a beautiful game to be ruined, and the irony that a person couldnt even log in to give away all his good rare legacy loot is not lost on me. It really is such a shame.
