Do you really have to stay at work benches for weeks and months to get your maxlevel crafter ? Is that really such a great idea ?
If the game was popular, then I say yes. Otherwise you end up with wow syndrome where everybody and their dog is a master crafter thus reducing crafting to a commodity market. I actually like having to search for that crafter that makes weapons a slight bit better then another crafter, or browsing merchants to find an uber weapon that only a few top crafters can create with the rarest of materials. I think the ability of a person to create a name for themselves on the server with their top notch crafting is a good thing for the community of a game.
But hey, that's just my opinion. This stuff may just not be important to you, and I don't hold it against you. Luckily for you, there's plenty of existing games on the market that are geared to your (assumed) playstyle.

Buggy is right. I posted on the official forums about the bugs I saw in the first few minutes. Some people attacked me some where nice. Either way, I give up on the game. Vanguard is not a high quality game and is not for me. There are too many options these days to give a chance to a clearly buggy one. Vangaurd will not rise again.
The interface is almost identical to WoW. The other game mechanics are probably different. People in the game were saying WoW ripped off EQ1s interfac. I never played EQ1. So, if it is a rip off of EQ1s interface, I appologize. Sony is allowed to rip off their own game.
I know other games now (LOTRO) use very similar interfaces too. I do not hate the game for using similar interfaces. I just found it funny that the players became so highly defensive about it.
A few exceptions of course, like Jaguar is truly a troll judging from his post that lost all credibilty with what he said before and after "LOL I LOGIN AND SAY THIS GAME IS LIKE WOW"...I was actually interested in his points until that point.
In general though, what I said about the rule of MMORPG.com is true.
I agree with you Vendayn
But one thing I can say, after I experienced a lot of MMOs, it is easy to realize the mmorpg.com community does not reflect any game community.
Of course, we find people like Jaguar in a lot of MMOs, but usually they are just an annoying minority.
This fanboy/troll silly generalization doesnt trully affect any game.
I don't think you understand the definition of fanboy. I am not promoting any other game. I did not make a post on the general forum try to promote the game I play.

Ok, I loaded up Vanguard. The performance is a lot better now. I did the shader optimization at the beginning, I don't know how much that helped. The HUD text is horrible still. It shows no effort. I know I can turn off the floating names, but they are still visible when I click an object. It's such a little detail, but is seen throughout the entire game.
This game is very well optimized now. It seems they have improved performance at least 10 fold. I can run this game on almost max settings now days, where as I had to run it on low settings with the same computer when it first came out.
You, and another person in this post who mentioned it, are totally right about the HUD text, if that's what it is called. The text over monsters heads. It is so ugly, it really is distracting from the gorgeous scenery around, like big graphical farts of uglyness. I wish there was a way to change the fonts. If anyone knows how, let us know!

I never said I spammed "this game is like WoW." You will not see the word spam in any of my posts. I said this game is like WoW once in the region chat and the players got all upset.
Are you inferring I am a WoW fanboy? I do not play WoW. I do not like WoW. I cannot stand WoW because of the instances and long quests. I do highly respect WoW for being an extremely solid game. I played WoW for three months back in 2005 (a year after it was released) and I did not see any major or obvious bugs.
The Vanguard engine is a lot better now. I could play at the highest settings when before I had to play at the lowest.
One other issue I notice when playing was when I walked up steps. I got a headache from the camera shaking. I'm guessing there is an option to stop the camera from following so closely?

I'm not sure the font choice is bad, but there are no effects used on it to make it blend better. Most other games add shadows around the text and blur the edges. The Vanguard HUD text is one color and has rough edges. It's very cheap looking.
I was so turned off the game at launch that I'm still tasting it However, I keep reading good things about Vanguard. About how far its come and very, very little bad, the bad now based alot on anger and nutty comments rather than evidence to back it up. I never did remove the game from my machine. VG is a wash of dark colors. It's boring to look at. It's the same problem I have with EQ2. Compare Vanguard characters against Lord of the Rings characters. I don't like Lord of the Rings, but the world is much more colorful and interesting.
ROFL, the LOTRO toons look like clowns. Seriously, they look... just plain stupid.

Not at all, I never said or though you were a WoW fanboy .
But games like Vanguard ( or even EQ2 and DDO ) have a small and older playerbase, for obvious reasons people will get upset with you if you start to talk about WoW ( or chuck norris ) in the general chat, this doesnt mean they are fanboys.
Vanguard has some serious issues as the texts, ( probably are like that to express an old school sensation, who knows?) character customization and end game content for adventure and diplomacy, but the huge and open universe is very nice and unique among MMOs.
Classes are also very well done, healers are fantastic in Vanguard, the UI at first view is very similar to WoW, but it has some nice details, a good way to show adds for tanks is an example.
Combat seems simple at first, but when you start to use chains and the weakness system you realize it is a bit deeper than wow-eq combat.
I never experienced this camera issue you had,( try to use a more open and far camera view?) but Im aware of all Vanguard issues, to tell the truth, the good aspects are there too...
I dont know for sure if the game has a good future, we will probably now it after G6.

You will see the eyeballs inside your characters head everytime you go through a door. You will still be laying down, dead for a second everytime you resurrect. The UI can freeze up if you click the map and another icon too quickly. Walking upstairs will shake the camera rediculously. Every level you walk up a tower the building textures may become compeltely transparent so you can see the outside.
I identified these bugs within the first 15 or 20 minutes of playing. That was enough to make me stop. Am I expecting too much?
Also add in the bland atmosphere and disgusting HUD text. The dark atmosphere is not successful like GoW, UT3, or EVE. It's just dull. Of course these are just my opinions, but I certainly bet some of these issues have something to do with Vanguards lack of success. I bet the horrendous engine caused a lot of peopel to quit initially. Thankfully that is one issue that is fixed now.
"The UI can freeze up if you click the map and another icon too quickly. Walking upstairs will shake the camera rediculously. Every level you walk up a tower the building textures may become compeltely transparent so you can see the outside"
Jaguar
The UI is freezing up for you, the shaking camera is happening with you...
What you said about transparence is not a bug, it happens in a lot of games, so you will not get lost in a extreme coloseup of wall or your character´s head... is this your first game with Unreal engine???
Diplomacy content, end game content, some quests, character customization are issues today not what you are saying.
Huge cities and buildings, the only totally alive sky and weather among MMOs, unique music are details that bring a very unique atmosphere to Vanguard, but really, you should at least try to get some info or experience a bit of the game if you want to cast a fair judgement... and we both know, you are not doing that since your first minute talking about the game or using the general chat.

I highly doubt the camera shaking while walking up steps is just me. That's not a big deal, it's just an annoyance like the WoW-ish UI and crappy HUD font. The freezing UI could have been a one time incident, I did not try to recreate it, but it happened.
Do not attempt to blame my computer. That is a classic fanboy move. "It works fine on my computer, it must be yours." I have an excellent computer with the most recent drivers and clean of crap. I reinstall Windows every couple months to keep it running best.
I did not realize Vanguard used the Unreal engine. I looked it up. It uses the Unreal 2 engine and I admit I am not familiar with any of the games that use the Unreal 2 engine.
That does not mean I should accept buildings becoming compeltely transparent as I walk through them. That also does not mean I like to see the freaky insides of my characters when I walk through doors or manage to position the camera too close.
The vastness of Vanguard was the main reason I bought it when it was released. No other game besides Asheron's Call have such vast open landscape and buildings.

I went back but found that one of the major bugs I'd always hated was still there.
I cannot see the weather with my GeForce 8800 GTX video card. This has been a problem that they are "looking into" since release.
It might seem like a little hassle to some people, but weather is one of the things I like most about different MMO's. And it's really frustrating to hear thunder and rain and not be able to see it.

This I agree it is a real issue but only under Vista and 8xxx nvidia cards
The weather in VG is very impressive, volumetric clouds and storms you can see coming from miles and miles away.
As far as I know, it will be fixed in the next Gupdate, but it is without a doubt an annoying issue.

I should have been more clear stating the interface is much like WoWs, either way the couple players online became very agitated.
Anyway, you are a Vanguard fanboy. Can you not admit it? You are trying extremely hard to defend a buggy game. You want to protect the games image. I am not making any false statements in order to perpetuate my own anti-Vanguard agenda. Actually, I'm not anti-vanguard. I wish they would fix the issues I mentioned. I might be playing right now. The open world Vanguard offers is unmatched.
I am not picking on Vanguard particulalry hard. My own game, Asheron's Call, I am extremely hard on too. I constantly plea for improvements on the official forums. My pleas are not completely random or out of the question either. They are similar to Vanguard mainly relating to fixing technical bugs, not game mechanics.

You are totally obsessed with the Fanboy word.
No, Im not a Vanguard "fanboy" only because you disagree with me ( without much arguments ) Im not even playing Vanguard anymore as I m waiting for SOE to fix the real issues and bring more content and customization.
Im trying extremely hard to express realistic point of views and trying to avoid this Fanboy/Troll issue you are obsessed for.
Initially I used the word fanboy in the satement "LOLOLOL FANBOYZZ." I am clearly capable of communication beyond that. My usage of "LOLOL FANBOYZZ" was inteded to rile Vanguard fans. I wanted to spite some fans because I was attacked in the game for saying I thought Vanguard was similar to WOW. The statement was not specifically targeted at you.
After that you in turn called me a fanboy, and ever since we have continually bantered back and forth using the word.

Well, he is right, anyone who has played this game knows about going up stairs and the camera shaking... It's a small thing but it drove me crazy. And yeah there are alot of bugs with map and the UI freezing, the rift map gets bugged all the time and you have to /flush it quite a bit. He is not making it up. Maybe you need to chill out a little and take a deep breath.
I love this game but its still got issues... It is however, alot better than it was, and it is quite playable now. Thats all Vanguard really needed was to be playable cause it is truly a fantastic game.

Yeah man people get real uptight about WoW for some reason. They take offense like you insulted their mother or something. It's really stupid. What is even more stupid is the game is more like WoW and the games that are of that same genre of MMOs (LOTRO WoW, EQ2, Vanguard) than any other game out there.
People love to pull out the old... "It is the continuation of the original Everquest and is more like EQ1 than any other game." That is a load of crap, and I can assure you none of those liars ever played EQ1. I played EQ1 and that game was nothing like Vanguard at all. EQ1 was a serious ball breaker of a game with no EZ mode quests that led you by the hand everywhere and gave you enough content to level to max. EQ1 was a serious hardcore grinding game, and then raiding game.

Wait a second, I need to chill? Im not agressive in any of my points.
I played with a lot of real life friends, no one had UI issues, we checked again in the free month, and still the same but Vista/Wheater issues, yes, broken quests, yes, stuttering, yes... and content/customization issues.
About the camera shaking Im still not sure what you two are talking about, yes the camera follows the character, yes if the character go down or up the camera will follow, maybe it is annoying if you use a closeup camera... again, I still dont know exacly what you are talking about.
The real issues about this game are not UI related, you had UI issues, he had UI issues, it is ok, but it is not the common issue... anyway, if you think Im agressive to realize somone that enters the game calling everyone "fanboyzz" is not exacly doing the right thing I need to chill?
........
Jaguar, I didnt call you fanboy, I said you are too atached to this fanboy/troll subject expressed by Vendayn.
You call everyone that has a different opinion or had a different experience ingame than you fanboy... it is a bit hard to talk about something if you use a lable in everyone.
I agree that Vanguard has a few problems. Are these game-breakers? Well that depends on what you think is important enough to make you quit a game.
A shaking screen when you walk up stairs? Fonts? User Interface?
Are these all of the problems of Vanguard? Nope. I have seen other problems like unable to hear the sound of your horses footsteps when you are riding it. No rain drops when using a particular OS mixed with a particular GPU. There are others too, im sure.
Personally, will I stop playing a game because I cant hear my horses footsteps? No. If the game play is fun and has deep content then I will continue to play the game.
I generally dont take advice about a game from people who play for a few hours and then go to some forums to try to talk like they are an expert on the topic of the overall gameplay of that game.
Is the UI in Vanguard similar to WoW? Yes it is because most of the modern MMOs currently available all use the same basic UI model which was developed from EQ1. A HUGE number of people will use UI Mods for the game that they play so if you dont like the default UI then there are always a fair amount of custom UI's out there that folks can chose from.
Jaguar seems pissed at Vanguard for some reason. It is obvious from his numerous posts in this thread that he doesnt want to like the game. He download the client and after 15 minutes of gameplay he dislikes it.
Seems he doesnt like the graphics. Thats cool. Not everyone does. Vanguard is not the game for every MMO player out there.
IMO the Vanguard graphics are on par with AoC but the gameplay of Vanguard far exceeds that of AoC.
The graphics in LOTRO are a bit easier on the eyes but that is pretty much the only thing going for LOTRO. The actual gameplay/content of that game is pretty limited and no where near that of Vanguard.
If Jaguar is trying to steer folks away from trying Vanguard then I think he is having the opposite effect. People see him as being jaded to the game and in order for them to find out themselves they will try the free trial which will be coming out in just over a months time.
In other words, Jaguar is perhaps the best advertising that Vanguard can have. He keeps bumping this thread up and getting the Vanguard name out there and more and more people will see it and decide to try the game and from the past posts that I have seen, the majority of them will stay with it.
What do you say Jaguar, you wanna bump this thread yet again to let other gamers know about Vanguard and let them try it out and increase the games population even more?

You said you installed a game and in the first minute you started to spam "this game is like wow, this game is like wow, this game is like wow!" without even play or explore the game ( you admited it too) and YOU called everyone that was against your attitude in game FANBOYZZZ.
Do I need to say more?
By the way, if someone play a game and like to talk about it in a forum this person is a fanboy? See, this is what Vendayn said, stop generalize and judge others and start to look your own attitudes.
...
I dont know for sure if the game has a good future, we will probably now it after G6.
...
Huge cities and buildings, the only totally alive sky and weather among MMOs, unique music are details that bring a very unique atmosphere to Vanguard, but really, you should at least try to get some info or experience a bit of the game if you want to cast a fair judgement... and we both know, you are not doing that since your first minute talking about the game or using the general chat.
...

What are you talking about? Your camera shakes and your UI is freezing, I said it is not exacly a common issue and now Im a fanboy blaming your PC???
You enter the game and shout "This game is like WoW", people got upset, you call people fanboy, I said your strange issue is not a common bug and talked about some real issues in Vanguard and you call me fanboy.
Ok Jaguar, everyone is a fanboy and you are totally right (????)
This is pointless...

All Rights Reversed
This I agree it is a real issue but only under Vista and 8xxx nvidia cards
The weather in VG is very impressive, volumetric clouds and storms you can see coming from miles and miles away.
As far as I know, it will be fixed in the next Gupdate, but it is without a doubt an annoying issue.

Once again you are exaggerating by saying "shouting."
[some chatting about what the game was similar to]
Me: the game is like wow
Player 1: no it's not
Player 2: you don't know what you're talking about
Player 3: troll, go away
Player 4: it's more like EQ1
[continued arguing about how the game was not like WoW]

Im trying extremely hard to express realistic point of views and trying to avoid this Fanboy/Troll issue you are obsessed for.
...

You call everyone that has a different opinion or had a different experience ingame than you fanboy... it is a bit hard to talk about something if you use a lable in everyone.
...
Ok, ok I went overboard with fanboy. Hugs? Aww, all better. Topic starting to bore everyone. Perhaps we will meet again someday. UP UP AND AWAY
