PvE & Tome of Knowledge!   I'm going for that 100,000 RvR deaths unlock really quick!  I suck at PvP, so I know I'll get it in record time! hehe

large scale fights and sieges, considering of course it doesnt have TOO high requirements and there is not MUCH bugs

  • SatariousSatarious Member UncommonPosts: 1,073

It's encouraging to see so many kindred spirits on the epic open warfare part of the game.  I'll just let the poll sit for awhile and see what most people ultimately end up preferring.

I want to siege some cities.

  • Ascension08Ascension08 Member Posts: 1,980

City sieging, but the best part is there will be plenty of field battles in the lesser Tiers. So you can have the cake and the frosting on top. And maybe some milk if you do Scenarios.

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

All of the above... but mostly for the open world PvP, then the other things are all kind of evenly in second place.

Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

Large-scale open RvR, keep defense and capture, and all the nice new toys guilds are getting. It's going to be like permanent Christmas in DAoC.

Those reviewers have obviously only experienced the PvE portion of the game.. and only part of the PvE, at that.  Even the PvE differentiates from WoW with the Public Quest and Tome of Knowledge systems they have in place.

The PvP system is WORLDS APART from WoW's.  It encourages cooperative, massive type pvp rather than small fry style pvp that you see in WoW.  Keep Sieges, claiming a keep for your own, City Sieges, etc. etc.  It goes on and on.  You only have to pay a visit to WAR's website and watch all the podcasts to realize that this game is an entirely different animal.

In conclusion, those reviewers are clueless about WAR.

yeah its unfair to judge the pvp since there isnt 5,000 beta testers on and if i remember correctly the tier 4 zone has been off limits till this new phase with guild betas, judge it then.

well I went with the big rvr bit but honestly... going back to a game I can be a darkelf again

I'm mainly looking forward to Mythic bringing back RvR.  No other games PvP content could compare to that of DAoC's, imo.

Large scale open world PvP for me.

Although I suck (relatively ofc) at 1v1 PvP I think I'll make a pretty good scout/tactician.. You know the guy lurking in the bushes, following the situation on the map and yelling out warnings and tactics... "10+ inc at XY - drop the objective and go for Z! No one's defending!" Sweet!

Yeah I know of that preview that got a torrent of flames... (pcgamer i believe) The dude basically took a giant piss on the game based on his starting area impressions. He made a level 1 character, entered the world and complained that his first quest requires him to kill 10 of something - so therefore the rest of the game is like that and it is worse than WoW...

Well duh... The first few quests are supposed to be "idiot proof" - they're here to teach you how to run around, fire off skills, kill stuff etc. I don't think this will ever change... Even EVE, the sandboxiest MMO around, begins with "kill 10 something" quests. That's practically "Hello World" for MMOs. (Traditionally the first app you make in a new programming language that you're learning is the one which writes "Hello World" on screen.)

Well anyway the guy wrote a full preview with all kinds of pitifully uninformed assumptions based on this Hello World part of the game and deservedly got flamed to hell and back.

If we get large RvR combat 100+ vs 100+, like in daoc, ill be happy.

Just hope they dont instance the game into the ground.

Does anyone know how to make a mmoRPG anymore?

  • acidbloodacidblood Member RarePosts: 878

Well all of them really, but since I had to pick one I went with open world PvP because it is the open world PvP from the early days of WoW that I still consider ‘the most fun I have had in an MMO’.

Mytic minus the EA part and RVR sold this game for me I just hope it pays off.

    Yes.
    Yes yes yes yes.

I'm a bigtime PvE player (not so much the raids and eternal grinding of such, but more the 'exploring, roaming, and killing stuff part'). I'm a craft-a-holic, I'm an alt-a-holic, I'm immensely excited about PQs, I'm drooling over the ToK, I really want to explore and find the 'little hidden things' Paul has mentioned...but my poll choice here was 'large scale RvR'. DAoC's RvR system has been, to this date, the only PvP I ever truly enjoyed.

    AND I LOVED IT.

That should be in giant, flashing neon. I just can't emphasize it enough. There was just nothing more thrilling than bringing down the hammers of Mjolnir on a raging Albion horde sacking your keep. I get all flustered just thinking about it. The scenarios entice me, but the thought of large scale RvR gets my blood pumpin'.

    WAAAAAAGH!

  • elockeelocke Member UncommonPosts: 4,335

Ok, I voted PVE, but..I wanted to vote for all the others. 2 reasons I didn't. Number one...the Tome of Knowledge. I am so hyped about that so I had to vote PVE. Number 2, I don't really know how the city sieges are going to go down or the open rvr battles, but I can't wait to do them. I never really got that far in DAOC due to playing it only as a trial last year.

  • SuorySuory Member Posts: 90

I am excited about RvR, and only Everquest and DAoC have held my attention longer than six months. If Mythic creates a RvR system like they did for DAoC, I think it will be a game that I can play for five years like I did with DAoC.

I do like to PvE with friends and my guild mates, but the RvR is hands down  the most fun I have had in any game so far.  Mythic is one of the few  gamming companies that have made a mmorpg with PvP or RvR that is meaningful and fun. People always talk about  revolutionary game mechanics in games being made these days; IMO Mythic did that with their last game they made. The only company that had PvP was UO, and you can compare the difference between the two.  I really hope with the money from EA; they can pull off a great game. I am just worried they will take the approach that so many of the games these days take ie. LoTR and AoC. I do like not the heavy quest and no grouping that goes on in those games. Thats just my personal feelings about it.

Niiice.  It looks like a large majority of  people around here prefer the Open World RvR gameplay like me.  I was pretty sure that City Siege would get the most votes.  But then, it's not at all clear exactly how they plan to do City Siege.  There's been talk of combining instances and open world aspects into city siege.  That's MUCH BETTER than just instances like it used to be.
