Hey all...i Am looking to start playing guild wars because from what i hear it is a pretty good game...i myself was a big fan of DAOC and EQ1 and am still looking for something to rekindle the feeling of playing those games or maybe a new more fun expierience all together...my question is which guild wars should i buy? do people still play the old ones or should i go strait to the newer ones? how does that work?

There are three campaigns (Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall) and one expansion (Eye of the North). I've listed them in chronological order.
As to which you should purchase, well that depends on what type of gamer you are. Prophecies (the original) is very PvE-oriented, as it has a long and interesting storyline. Factions on the other hand is very PvP-oriented. Though it too has a long PvE campaign, most prefer the other storylines. Remember though, that you can only play the Assassin and Ritualist professions if you have Factions.
Nightfall is a mixture between PvE and PvP. Like Prophecies it has a long and interesting storyline, but it also offers new forms of PvP. A nice feature about Nightfall is that if you purchase it you'll gain access to NPC heroes, which are basically customizable NPCs that you can take on your adventures with you.
Eye of the North is the first, only and last expansion to Guild Wars before Guild Wars 2 arrives probably next year. It cosists of content geared towards level 20 characters. As a result you won't need just yet. However, Eye of the North also offers access to heroes, so if you don't purchase Nightfall but own Eye of the North, you won't be left out!
All in all, people spread themselves out well between the various campaigns. You shouldn't need to worry about not finding others to play with as you can swap and change between European, Asian, International, American etc. districts with the click of a button, meaning there will always be people playing with you.
My personal recommendation would be to start with Prophecies, then move on to the other campaigns. Even better would be to purchase one of the many bundles available, such as Prophecies + Eye of the North or Prophecies + Factions.
Hope to see you in-game!
You should buy the platinum edition (The first guild wars game and Eye of the north).
And when you have finished those two you buy factions and then nightfall ^^,
I dont recommend buying all at once.
EDIT: Post nr. 200 :DDDD
Thanks a bunch! very helpful! im off first thing in the morning to get it...i will probably buy one of the bundle things because it looks like you get a lot for your money...especially also because there is no monthly fee
