Recommend a new MMO for me. I'm bored with EVE.

I've been playing EVE Online for a few months now.  It's nice.  It's okay.  I have been trying to investigate it's possibilities but as I realize what type of gaming I enjoy more, I can see areas of the game that are lacking.

I'm interested in trading, politics, economy, resource management, etc.  Things like Civilization or Europa Universalis.  Can anyone recommend an MMO that falls along those lines?  I'm nervous that there aren't any like that though.

Like Wolfenpride, I don't know any either. EVE was the most political and economical of MMOs I've ever seen, but none that I'm aware of ever ventured in to the realm of RTS/MMO connections like Civilization. I think MMOs definitely aren't for everyone and I'm starting to take a break from them myself in exchange of enjoying Civ IV, Civ Rev, and various other single-player/multi-player games instead.

If Sid Meier took an MMO route with Civilization though, where you could build up your nation (obviously a lot slower then in the RTS version) over an endless cycle of eras with thousands of other players in an ever-expanding world or universe of planets; that would be pretty incredible.

ZenNature, That would indeed be AWESOME

Hopefully we'll get one of those in the near future.  Hopefully...

The genre you're looking for is MMORTS. Currently the released titles mostly leave something to be desired, Shattered Galaxy, Mankind, Boundless Planet. However, there are a few titles in the works like Angels Fall First, Fragmented Galaxy, and Beyond Protocol.

Although Beyond Protocol is still in beta, it looks the most promising. It has 105 basic minerals, and you can make alloys, plus it has agents (spies), inter galactic trade and customizable components, so you can sell truly unique items. The diplomatic settings range from 0 to 255, so it's not just war neutral and ally, which makes things interesting.

There are also deep tactical and technological aspects to the game, but the spirit of the topic was economy and diplomacy.

If you want to check it out, go here: www.beyondprotocol.com

Oh yeah, and this game is completely persistant, which means no instancing and no resetting, unless you're in the tutorial. What you start will continue after you log off...

What is instancing?  And what do you mean by no resetting?

Would someone explain to me please.

If you're interested in all that and don't mind 2003 Graphics, Star Wars Galaxies is amazing, and matches all your requests. Don't listen to what people say, I have tons of fun, and the community there is really nice. Space and Land. If you aren't into Star Wars, you will want to by playing it!

Seriously, this game always blows my breath away, and all it needs is some 2008 Graphics. The graphics aren't BAD, I'm just pointing out how spoiled I am :D.

Anyway, I played it for years, and with one character, I ALWAYS had something fun to do.

Pirates of the Burning Sea is pretty cool if you don't mind the lack of freedom: basically, the only freedom you have is on the open sea, and the ports are all instanced with limited boundaries compared to other MMOs. But PotBS DOES have factories, commerce, fortifying ports, trading NPC and players, and such like that. The combat system is very different as well, and you're really going to want to try it out once you start playing! In PotBS there are no quests that involve collecting 5000000 items and bringing them back to whoever, and you'll find many that are real-time strategic and puzzling rather than plainly combat. Check it out! Very different MMO.

If you're into SciFi, Tabula Rasa is a MUST-check out!! I rate it very high! :D

Very very very unique MMO and very very fun at the same time!

End-Game content is really the only complaint for that game, and (really really cool) stuff should be releasing within the next months.

Unfortunately, this game has only but a small crafting system. It's very cool and unique, but small for now.

Tabula Rasa is really a fun community and game though, and the Devs and Customer Service really listen to the player body.

If you want a taste of Fantasy, try out Vanguard!

It's really not bad at all, and one of the only fantasy games I really like!

Crafting is unbelievably different than any other game.

It also features a "Diplomacy" skill, with interesting, extemely large regions

Send me a message if you want to hear more, there's really a lot to say about VG.

Unfortunately, EVE online is very different to many MMOs. There is no MMO with features like EVE has, but just keep thinking, and you'll find the right game for you!!

The last two don't have all your matches really at all. BUT...

In my opinion, these listed are all of different varieties, and don't get old very easy.

Sorry for writing so much!! Hope it's useful, and good luck to finding a new game!!

You would have loved Face of Mankind, while it was still running.
