Yes the game will have PvP, and so far from the information we have there will be two sides, Praxis/dark side (Op-Core, loyal Jaffa, and Goa'uld) and SGU (stargate union humans, free Jaffa, and Asgard).
The word right now is kind of confusing, and for some reason there's a lot of confusion around some things in this game because of nomenclature. The higher ups that seem to do a lot of the talking don't seem to have kept up with the terminology in the MMOG world.
So they've said there will be duelling, and there will be "PvP everywhere" server/servers. Then later on after release there will be more arena style/instanced based Pv P. They haven't clarified what "PvP everywhere means" though. Hopefully they aren't silly enough to only offer FFA PvP at release. They have the perfect set up for side vs side PvP, and they should run with it.
There's some weird thinking going on though. They're letting the sides talk to each other, and there's even been mention of letting players create characters of both the opposing sides on the same server. So if that's true it makes any side vs side PvP they might have pretty much pointless, because most players will just hop to the character they have that's on the wining side.
It's really about time they gave a real detailed description of the PvP planned for SGW, so that players and commands (guilds) can know what the heck's going on and make plans accordingly.

That system actually works really well. As long as the classes are balanced, PvP could be amazing. It's exactly the same as SWG, and the only problem with SWG's pvp was the class imbalance.

Well I respect your opinion, but I found PvP in SWG to be really lacking as far as depth and the ability to make me want to participate. It seemed to be more focused on the individual or smaller groups, rather than focusing a whole side on it, thus making it a rich and rewarding experience.

Not only do I disagree with you, but I also disrespect you.
Owned....
J/K... although I do disagree. I thought SWG was great.

swg pre-cu didn't have any imbalance what it had was professions who are weaker then others meaning you had to group up with people more.
and believe me no rebel liked seeing a 20 man group roll up with a jedi in the lead.
Haha thats very negative , no comments y, but back to the discussion the game will need to have PvE and Pvp. It will prb have a RP server i doubt it will have a FFA server, since the majority will play on PvE or PvP servers.
I hope PvP is implemented well though, i cant wait for this game.
I literally despise the people who cry for class balance in every game. It completely destroys the RPG aspect of the game. The original SWG team knew this, which is why a dancer wasn't as good in pvp as a bounty hunter. Everyone was fine with this except for teenage cry babies.
RvR is the new buzzword for sub par video game w/o writers....
You could still have plenty of PvP and maintain the role playing elements of the game. People who want to p0wn face in pvp will just have to be careful about what class they roll.

So far this game is unimpressive.
