City of Heroes/Villains maybe?  Not technically Sci-Fi but its not fantasy hack n slash.

You played them all already.  Don't get your hopes up too much for Aion either as it's shaping up to be just like AoC in terms of lack of mid-end game content with a lot more grind then people are leading others to believe.

Hopefully Earthrise or the new Bioware MMO in dev will slick your lust.

**Edit: Ah yeah you could try the Matrix online 14 day trial.  Also Face of Mankind I heard is getting some reworking...

Anarchy Online is still one of the best games out there. When you say it's dated, I take it you mean graphics because a single night is nowhere near enough time to judge a game. At that rate you're going to be back to the hack and slash MMOs in no time...

So true , funcom are getting a bad rep of late but anarchy is an amazing mmo..graphics are dated yes and the learning curve is a little steep but the gameplay is solid, the community are very helpful.

Then theres eve online, never really played it so cant say much besides the stars are real pretty heh.

Tabula rasa, a sci fi mmo with a third person shooter combat system....fast ...fun..played it...liked it

Hellgate: London, Age of Armor, Necron2.2, RF-online, EXteel-[mmo], Tabula Rasa just to name a few.

    I thought FoM folded?

It did, completely....the developers did want to make a new version with the title "Rebirth" but alas they couldnt raise the funds.

yeah FOM did fold just as I was about to try it :)

few months without a MMO for me but  looks like some great Sci-Fi titles on the horizon with Earthrise, Stargate, W.E.L.L online and global agenda.

i can definately see one of these 3rd person shooter mmo's becoming my new home sometime in the future i loved TR's combat their was just such a poor story despite starting of so strongly with the intro and the tutorial poor quest imagination poor char customization and poor item customization that it didnt justify a subscription.

As for AO dont get me wrong at its core it seemed a great game and the 10 or so member's of the community I met in that short period seemed very friendly and helpful but graphical wise it was just urrrgghhh and I couldnt play it I know a new engine is on the way for it so I might take another look then.

Graphic's are big part of a game for me id go as far as saying 50/50 graphic's to gameplay I couldnt play WOW either 1 hour and the game got uninstalled.

From what you said about TR, I would suggest my fist suggestion HG:L as the game to kill time in.

is it actually a MMO though???

As in social elements to it other than just being able to chat.

    It's an mmorpg, with guilds, play solo or play in group, there is a trail version or demo somewhere, the full version will cost, i got mine on eBay for $30Au, it's free to play online, you can also sub for extra content, the game also comes with a singleplayer version as well, but the game also lets you solo in the mmorpg side very nicely, it also uses Xfire for voice chat, check out the Hellgate London thread;

Its not out yet, but Jumpgate Evolution might also be a game of interest in the near future.

Why is the 100s of fantasy hack n slash crap and very few sci-fi mmo's

Lets all throw in some dollar's and have someone make a bladerunner mmo

A Dune MMO would be cool.

But everyone would want to be the Kwisatz Haderach.

Maybe a Highlander MMO focusing on PvP and having permadeath by decapitation.

    Lots of good ideas available...

Firstly, there are no major sci fi mmos.

AO - Just finished the return for 30 days. Overly complicated and not much too it once you understand everything, the gameplay is very bland and full of needless obstructions. If you're desperate for sci fi this is your best bet though as it has end-game raiding. You can probly get away with being a free player for the first 100 or so lvls.

RFO - A hefty grind with a lot of kiddies and cash shop whores. Its a pvp game with RvR but very bland PvE.

HGL - Good graphics. Gameplay consists of holding the left mouse button down. Lots of essential features missing, the best example being no respec feature meaning you have to farm an item with a 1% droprate or reroll.

AoA - Just a bland grindfest.

A few more not mentioned yet:

Zero Online - Got some interesting ideas, you can have 3 different characters and the one youre not using at the time can still earn XP and fight beside you. Its a sidescroller but from an interesting angle, worth a try.

Mx0 - CoH copy if you liked CoH but wanted more sci fi :P

PSU - Hit and miss but most importantly you can play it on console.

I would love to see something done in the Dune universe as well. You can have your Kwisatz Haderach, I would like to play an Honered Matre butt kickin all the way:).
