Whi is DX10 so important? excuse me for not being a techie! but the game runs fine for me without it, so is there any reason i need it to run DX10?

Same here only 56 so not played any large scale pvp.

pvp rewards should be a priority. no point otherwise.

drunken brawling could be fun if they added it :).

other than that is anything "broken" as some claim? i havent experienced anything broken other than minor bugs. though i agree new content should be high on thier list too.

The thing is it was PROMISED! A lot of people went and upgraded their computers to support DX10 yet theres no point now.

Ahh i see, doesn't apply to me though as DX10 is an upgrade for other things for me too. I play other games and do other things with my pc so DX10 was a waste for me :) oh ye and i upgraded too but for some reason AoC still works with a little dx9 patch and DX10 still works on other games.

I promised my missus id be back for tea but ended up late....still with her! glad shes more forgiving than most of us :)

I agree DX10 is no big deal but it was part of Funcoms hype for their game

Had 2 accounts, both cancelled due to unfixed bugs, new bugs and broken attempts at fixing balance issues, etc.

Will look again when they have stopped messing stuff up, i.e. in about 6 months time if the game is still there...

    It wasn't fun for me.
Bugs and missing features I'm used to with MMOs.  Lord knows it happens alot with newly released MMOs.  The first 20 levels of AoC were ok and some of the quests were good.  But I wasn't really happy with the classes, and the game is too melee focused for my tastes.
So, if you're enjoying it then more power to you.  It just wasn't right for me.  In fact due to my disappointment with AoC, I've decided the following:
         - Never preorder a MMO again
         - Never buy a CE edition
         - Never play a new MMO until the reviews are in
This had to be one of the games I looked forward to the most... only to be disappointed by the game itself.

    Same here.

I was more dissapointed with no leather map in CE (just a rubber map on piece of cloth).

I also hit the cancel button. I loved it the first 50 levels or so but it gets old and boring after that. Too many bugs and lag spikes for me to stomache. The crafting system is a total bust. This mmo will last for a year or 2, then prolly put funcom out of business because no one is paying to play this pos.

Seems you're not the only one to leave , If you are who I think anyway . If a bunch of old SWG customers can't stick it out there is definitely something wrong.

Tech-wise DX10 provides a number lightiing improvments and some other things as well but the lighting is one of the major things.  This is actually a fairly Big Deal as far as looks, especially in places like a forest.

Promise wise DX10 requires a Vista which is not only a different OS than people people have but Vista combined with AoC high demands means you probably need 4GB of ram and many people would probably seriously consider upgrading their computer.  So reneging on this promise very almost no warning had serious consequences for those people whom it affected.

DX10 is not necessary, but it does have it nice points.  For those people who are either habitual early adopters or really wanted to see the kind of graphics DX10 would pop they essentially got bent over and well you know the rest.

Did everyone spend major money to upgrade their system? No.  But some people did and there were some decent reasons to want DX10.  And those people who did got Charlie Brown'ed by Funcom.

Here I will hold the football for you, just kick it *wink* *wink*

Personally I would not have upgraded my system for DX10 but I certainly see how some people would since they rate graphics higher than I do in importance.  They got screwed and really for no good reason except to maintain the hype that AoC was more revolutionary than it was.  AoC let them make expenisive purchases based upon their repeated promises to avoid bad press.

Certainly DX10 is a expensive investment that many people would not have done but DX10 does provide noticeable and unqiue lighting improvements which a subtle but powerful affect on ascetics.  So its not like some graphics upgrade where you say "Er there is no difference between 40 FPS and 60FPS you just want tot  turn it up to 11, Nigel".  And after all AoC is the steak of the MMORPG world.

So what does it matter to you with people cancelling and posting about it?

Nervous about a little bad press for AoC?  Not that it matters, since it does have a tarnished reputation at the moment.

Not SWG or Vanguard tarnished, but not good either way.

If the game is truly good, then it's own reputation will speak in itself.

The failures of AoC and the nonexistent communication from the devs added together are significant reasons for people to leave.  The patches are frequent but do very little.  Hell, there's more Nerfs and inadvertent breaking of skills (or stealth nerfs?) in each patch than there are of rectifying major issues.

I ended up leaving as well, I do wish AoC all the success in the world. I had fun up until level 48 afterwards I just got bored.

At least I spent money on a regular edition and not a Collectors.

Lets hope to all folks that still play the game get their fixes.

I just cancelled my sub..... It seems to me that after every update this game became shittier and shittier.... sux because it was alot fun until I had to deal with major lag spikes along with the occasional CRASH  to the log in screen. After every update my game experience got worse and worse soo sad I really did like the button mashing of combos and what not but awe well on to the Next big thing and back to LoTRO

and for all the AoC fanbois yes I did get past 20 I had a 57 PoM and a 37 Rng.... after 47 there was very little content btw and that is another contributor for me leaving good luck to all that stay with this game I do think it has great potential.

Personally in my OP, you and others like you, are why companies ARE releasing crap POS games onto customers. You say give it time. I say, they had 5 years time and still released an incomplete game. You are willing to pay for an incomplete game and THAT is the biggest problem in todays MMORPG's.  Fewer people willing to pay for a beta means more complete games get released.

I dont put all the blame onto Funcom. its also the stupid consumers who continue to support incomplete games also.

Nope just plain bored with it, especially since the ones that do post just use the same tired old rhetoric almost as if it was their membership fee to join the "Hate Club".

Howabout if all the people that are still playing buried every 'I quit' post with responses of "I didn't"?

Oops I forgot, most people that do like the game either don't read these forums or can't be bothered to get involved in flame wars, which is why these sorts of threads are not really indicative of anything apart from the OP's opinions.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

After this patch we still have the 12k ms bug, which is frankly unacceptable.
Also, for three updates, minor things inside of the Armsman's Tavern arena were fixed, while the quest to get into the arena in first place remained broken.
Furthermore, they are delaying the PvP system until the launch of WAR in order to attempt to compete. All this serves to do is piss people off, both those who cancel and stay.
Age of Conan will die before WAR releases, and WAR will just step on its lifeless corpse.
Also, before you say I didn't give it a chance, I had 2 level 80 characters, being a Ranger and a Tempest of Set.
    I hope Failcom goes bankrupt.

LoL have you seen the shape WAR is in . O thats right its ok because they are telling us they arnt ready but are going to release any way like that makes it ok to release a unfinished game . Go play WaR and Quit that game to in a month.

I'm in WAR beta, there is no possible comparison with AoC.

WAR is in a much better shape with what they have now

  • GhistGhist Member Posts: 275

I am also in War Beta, and it is much better shape then AoC.

    Waiting for the next thing
