I'm looking forward to this game, so far the combats looks very nicely done and highly dynamic. The GFX is drop dead gorgeous yet not very needy, yet again the gameplay also seems to be just perfect, so it's not just an "eye candy with nothing behind".

I won't be following Aion really heavy because i hate waiting so i rather be like "oh crap Aion releases in 2 days??!!! OMG YES! Thank you jesus baby boy!" Or perhaps a friend crashing into my apartment in a truck and yelling "DUDE!!! Aion was just released, why are you here sleeping?! Lets go!".

Same goes for D3, though that's not a mmo but it's one hell of a net-game, well the previous 2 were atleast.

But  i've read about as much information i could when i was mega hyped about this game, and i loved what i saw/read so dearly and so much that they really have to screw it up badly to make me not buy this game.

    Will do. Thanks.

And that sounds like a good plan Qmire. Lol. Time will go by faster. But I'm looking forward to US BT.

Buying the game wont be a problem. Playing it for more then a month, now thats a tricky part.

    Hmmm...

Aion looks pretty, the combat seems nice and there seems to be plenty of content. I guess my biggest issues will be:

    1. Grinding...yes I know Beta testers have said that there isn't much grinding incomparison to Lineage etc. but people have diiferent opinions as to what "isn't much" quanitifies as, I guess the only way to tell will be when it finally comes out lol.

    2. Community, as great as any MMO is, it needs a solid community to bind it together. Judging by these forums there certainly seems to be a decent bunch of people, just hope that the game gets a decent amount of PR and the numbers fill out ^.^

    3. How it all ties together. Aion clearly is trying to bring in lots of different (and cool) aspects from mmos and wrap them up under one nice shell and advance them. The kicker will be how well it meshes. eg. The mixing of different abilities from classes = nice. However, no matter how many combinations there are, if a few turn out to be a cut above the rest then these will become the norm (and the core of every guide on places like gamefaqs) and so the possibility of individualism suddenly becomes very narrow. Flight in combat as well, could make for some sweet tactical decisions but could also lead to problems as well (unfair advantage for certain classes)... although it would be hilarious to see a massive group of people hold off and then all use flight at the same time to lead a charge into the enemy... but I digress. Lots of nice features are cool but if they don't come together than it means nothing.

    I really am looking forward to this game. Personally I think this has been an amazing year for MMOs. AoC got screwed at launch but it's still a game many people enjoy. WAR is on the horizion and is looking nice and Mythic know how to do RvR (plus the lore of  Warhammer is so deep that the game could evolve into something very special over the years) and now Aion, which could be the underrated dark horse that upsets everyone. Lots of people are say they are dissappointed with this and that and that they won't be playing this, or they're waiting for that, but by the start of 2009 we might actually have a set of MMOs that suite the vast majority of the fans of the genre (a different flavour ice cream for everyone eh). My social life is gonna take a dent... again... ^.^;;;

every time a game is going to release it has some thread like this, the answer so far has always been "no"

Hey, if NCSoft can pull off a good game without major grind, I will look at it, but they have to prove me wrong first.   I don't have high hopes that they will.

whats the difference between grind away games, and quests orientated games that get you to kill x amount of mobs..its the same thing without the boring drool that is quest text.

Ayase mentioned Aion being at GC next month as an opportunity for the European community to get a look.  North Americans, don't feel left out.  NCAustin will be showcasing Aion at the Penny Arcade Expo next month. Feel free to drop by the NCsoft booth for a chance to get some nifty swag, chat with members of the NA Aion team but most of all, an opportunity to play Aion and form your own opinions on the game.

Will NA aion even make it out by 2008, sounds like this game isnt coming until 2009.

When is Aion going to be released in the EU/NA?

2009 was mentioned. Just as with previous estimations we may have given out, we can’t promise much, or more importantly, give you more detail than we already have. It’s the nature of things written in sand, or gravel (as I mentioned before). The gardener may very well come and rake that path when you least expect him to.

Btw, it doesn't say anything about a game if the classes are named the same. Its still the formula behind the game. That what sets the classes not the names itself

Its the graphics, and the ability to air-combat aswell as deep character customizing. Gameplay will be the same, but its just the eye-candy that makes it better.

I wouldn't say that, it's the fact that they are doing their best to make what we know great and a pleasure to play, it's improving what's already been done. This game is not like other ones recently released and touting their 'innovation', it's not pretending to reinvent the wheel, it's just making a damn good game. :D Lovely graphics are of course a part of that.

Even though the game is at the closed beta phase of testing endgame, NC Soft don't want to push the game the slightest so expect it to come out early 2009....

I couldn't be more happier to see another company wanting to polish their game as much as possible before releasing it, finally there's more than one that does it.

The NDA isn't even enforced the slightest but then again would you enforce the NDA if the testers only had good things to say about it?

Well, I don't see Aion dominating the marketplace, if that what this thread is implying.  For me personally though, it looks to be the best MMO avaliable and it looks like it will be around for quite a while.  Those are the two most important things for me. Whether it dominates the MMO world doesn't really matter much to me as long as I enjoy it.

Personally I don't think WAR will live up to the Hype, and i'm hoping Aion will come out ontop. If Aion fails as bad as AoC I think i'll either quit MMO's or go back to EVE. I'm getting really sick and tired of having to wait 5 years for a "chance" at playing something decent. The developers need to open their eyes and actually look at why certain games are popular, and why some fail. Can't expect to win a sword fight blindfolded.

Pretty sure they look, however looking and thinking yeah we can do this and even better, and actually doing it and appease all the raging fan boys and girls is another thing entirely.

Oh they look. Where do you suppose all the WoW clones come from? It really is epically sad how popular WoW is. All the content in it is *grind* *grind* *grind*. For once I'm hoping to see an mmo that relies on skill, adaptability, and creativity, rather than "uber lootz" + "right spec" = win. I hope Aion delivers this, but it's unlikely. The change of scenery will certainly be nice though. I don't think  it will stop me from missing SWG...

Well I definately agree with you about AoC, huge dissapointment.  As for WAR I think it will be successful, its hype is pretty much about a giant quagemire of epic PvP which is what lots of ppl are looking for, kinda hard not to deliver there.   I think its not about dev's looking around, its about having balls and trying something new that isn't already out there.  And if Aion does end up sucking, which I doubt, there is light at the end of the tunnel.  SE has an MMO in development, that is sure to please ^_^

*edit* just wanted to add about AoC.  If they didn't promise so much I might still be playing it.  THe community was flat out lied to though.  THe combat system wsn't revolutionary, dx10 wasn't implemented as AoC promised to have at launch and much more.  Sometimes, you can tell the public, "You will like this, you will like this..." sometimes it works, but you need to present something somewhat similar to what you are advertising otherwise it was be nearly universally rejected.

    No it doesn't.

Please stop saying this people, a million games have better face customization then aion.  Heck even mass effect has more, and its single player.

CoX's character customization is far more than just skin color, hair color, hair style, and face.

And even looking at the character customization vids from cbt of aion, its really nothing special. at all.

If a million games have better face customization then Aion list them?

Any proof to backup your bold claim?

Yes CoX character customization is far more than just physical appearance (there is a costume design as well).  But Aion's physical customization is far more extensive than what CoX provides becuase CoX focuses more on the costumes than physical look.

    Yes it is an expression.

But the poster would be hard pressed to find many MMORPG's that have better character customization than Aion.

A list to back up that opinion would be a start.

You are right, they are the same. One focuses on costumes and body, while the other focuses on body and faces. The faces in CoH are quite static even with the sliders.

Aion is a newer game and has more then customization going for it. It's gameplay will rival WoW's, L2, FFXI, EQ2, AoC, ect... But not at the cost of great character creation. Conan told us we'd have super character customization, but Aion has better, at least for females...

A million games? Not exactly I can think of a few that have facial sliders:

Ryzom: Hands down the best character creation, faces and bodies' sliders have drastic effect.

Vanguard: Very good when they had the facial sliders.

AoC: Sliders only do so much.

EQ2: You hardly notice a difference whatever you do.

CoH: Again not much of a difference.

WoW, L2, FFXI: You pick a face, no sliders.

    Hmm what am I missing?
