I played SWG before FFXI and found it lacking, although there has been serious changes since then.

Anyways, FFXI > SWG to me

    Neither!

    Play Asherons Call 2 :)
The game is way better than FFXI and SWG in my mind... Even though the player population is so low :(

I played SWG for 1 year, still love it. Decided to take a break from it due to lack of content and any story driven elements. I have been playing FFXI for 2 weeks and have found that which SWG lacks. I won't go back to SWG now.

    yes, yes he is.

I'd go with FFXI... I think mostly because there is much more content and involving story line in FFXI.

For starters, I've been playing FFXI since 11/03. I've been also been playing SWG since it's release. My personal bias is in favor of FFXI because it's a solid, more creative, and immersive gaming world due to it's stability and lack of bugs (immersion-breakers).

SWG is a very involved game, giving you free-reign to create any combination of character you want of the various skill trees available, each tree with their own greater or lesser abilities. There are several different mission types you can take; bounty hunter, explorer, entertainer, artisan, delivery, or general (usually 'kill lair and creatures at waypoint A'), and there are special missions given by NPCs throughout the towns and wilderness. PvP is otherwise known as the GCW (galactic civil war) between the rebels and imperials. You can also duel anybody. You can craft if you have the proper skill, open your own store, etc.

Negatives IMO: SOE likes to change things before fixing theold things. There are bugs EVERYwhere in this game, from waypoints disappearing, to lairs disappearing, to never receiving rewards, to items disappearing in your house or safe, to completely unbalanced PvP, etc. etc. I could go on forever on the bugs of this game... And as of 07/30 none of these issues have been fixed. I've seen all of them within the past week for anyone that thinks otherwise. I brought my character to master various professions and eventually settled on Master Smuggler/Master Teras Kasi/Master Pistoleer giving me great PvP abilities, great PvE abilities, and the light crafting/slicing if I wanted to. Within about two weeks of realizing I can now go anywhere, kill anything, get almost any item, and after being in the greatest guild/player city I've ever known, I am bored out of my mind and completely annoyed at all the bugs I see everywhere I go. Everything I do, I feel is work, and boring work at that. My guild quickly ran out of things to do, and we've tried everything about a dozen times now. they say you can never beat a MMORPG, but for me SWG is done. Their monthly content is too minor to play for, and WAY too minor to pay for.

FFXI on the other hand is a slower game. I know I will never reach mastery in all the professions I want to try anytime soon and I'm enjoying that. I like that I have seen maybe one or two bugs since I've started playing back in Nov.2003 and they were so minor, it didn't detract from gameplay whatsoever or hurt my character in anyway. The economy and auction house is so much stronger then SWG it puts it to shame, although money is harder to come by then SWG because it's balanced. In SWG, I can easily acquire millions of credits anytime I need it, but with FFXI I know I will always need to save and spend cautiously. The missions and quests in FFXI not only have immersive stories, but additionally often offer cutscenes and game-animated sequences to add to the story. The most you get out of SWG in that regard is a paragraph to read about some little girl that was attacked by a womp rat and now her family wants 45 womp rats dead.

Verdict. SWG? Immersive? No. Easy to level/get money? Yes. Solid? lol uh, FAR from no. Most buggy game I ever played. Exciting? Yes, until you reach your desires mastery. Then it gets boring QUICK.

FFXI: Immersive? Yes, very much so and in a greater way then I've seen in any other mmorpg. Easy to level/get money? No. requires social skills, patience, and budgeting of which many players lack. Solid? Completely, with only the most minor bugs. Exciting? Well... it's slower paced, with no quick means of transportation until higher levels, and leveling is terribly slow unless you find frequent very good groups.

Just my very detailed 2 cents :)

i say go with swg. i played ff for one month. it was fun nice people cool lands. but you have to get to level 50 then start all over with a better class. becouse the people i meet are all like we dont want you becouse your not a blah blah class yer< i was a war> so then when i got to level 50 i wen to go be a sam. well i hade ot srat from level 1 again. i was pissed. so if you play this game there will be alot of times you will be pisd. and you lose levels if you die alot what kind of crap is that.<sounds like eq to me> but if you dont mind puting your life into the game the go for it. but if you dont want to put yut life into is dont bother getting it. and i am not flamming the game or anything like that. i id have some good times playing it . and you cant solo at higher levels. i think you can solo up until you get to the dunes< level 15> after that good luck soloing you will die alot and lose alot of exp.and if you want to make another char you have to pay $1< the first one is free> so that would be like $16 a month if you do that.

I had to reply to this because this is all changing... I've been playing since release, and yeah it would get annoying that people always said "If you're this class, you should be this race, or we don't want to group with you". I've had the pleasure within the past couple weeks of seeing many groups not care about this anymore. I've seen Galka blm/smn, taru drg/war, mithra whm/pally. Some really funny combinations, that have worked suprisingly well and people are noticing it. Maybe it's just my server, but I don't think you will have to worry about this problem much longer.

As for soloing, you can solo at any level. The only difference is the con system becomes increasingly inaccurate. 'Decent Matches' from levels 1-10 are easy kills, while taking a decent match from levels 20-30 will get you killed every time. However, easy prey with the right element to counter the creature you're fighting, and you have your solo experience for the lifetime of your character. It's never impossible to solo in this game. It just requires a ton of patience. You won't lose levels if you play cautiously (or as a solo class like beastmaster). I agree you have to devote a lot of time to this game if you want to get far quickly. I'm taking my time though, and I don't mind that it's slow when I can play in a bug-free, immersive and very-detailed world.

It's also not $16/month for 2 characters. It's $12.95 for the first, and $1.00 each additional. SWG costs $15/month, so you can have 3 FFXI characters for the price of the one you get per server in SWG.

SWG was fun 4 a bit...but it got old to me after i mastered a proffesion and realized the only thing left to do now is choose another....and another.....and another...just seemed like a pointless grind to become a jedi (wopty freakin doo). but from what ive seen out of both, FFXI would b my choice.

    Lacks creativity to have one!!!

By asking other which game you should play, you will almost without a doubt get two kinds of answers. Anyway you should try out the swg's 14 day trial as there is one. Don't think FFXI has any trials going.

I tried the free trial, the download link doesn't work.

Anyway, I suggest Final Fantasy XI. My friend let me play SWG and it sucked. In fact, here's a funny story-

One time when he was playing, I kept hoping there'd be a bug or something to make fun of Star Wars Galaxies and get him mad (I wanted to get him back to FFXI). And it's like my prayers were answered (even though I'm an atheist) because when he built a house near the edge of the map, it glitched up and went to the other side! The exact other side of the world! And because the world's flat for whatever reason, he had to turn around and it took him about five minutes to get to it. When he got to it, it was mixed with another person's house! And to add insult to injury, his door was blocked by the other person's wall but the other person's door was fine! ::::18:: Trust me, go with FFXI.

Do you roleplay in your MMORPG? If not, you are one of those millions of people who irritate me. Congratulations. (My avatar is a Toadutoadu. They're quite common in Mushroom King'diel.)

See, thats a constructive post. If someone asks which is better, if youve only played one of the choices, the only thing you could do is point out good or bad things about that game. To go and say SWG sucks or FFXI is a lvl treadmill wont help him a lot since he cant really rely on that.

If you see me walking towards you, be at guard. If you also see my Blade, you should concider fleeing.

Wow, this popcorn looks good! I think I'll eat it!
