The game still has many bugs , player regularly cheat , hack , dupe , script. As of now when you see another players theres a 50% chance its just a bot farming using scrpits , and even if there is a real person at the keyboard chance are likely they are running a hack.
The new client Kingdom Reborn is close to unplayable , the graphic are fair to poor , there are a ton of bugs when it running , it crashes about every hour or more.
With the way UO is going now I dont see how the game will maintain enough players to keep it going unless you can have an mmo with nothing but bots running around in it.

UO seems to have about 100.000 accounts (More than half of those in asia) and should be profitable until about 25.000 accounts.
So they will be around for some time, though I agree that it is buggy and being exploited and on life support.
According the latest mmo charts it was below 70,000 in May 2008 , with all trends downward . Typically with a mmo once it passes below 50k then the decline accelerates.
EA/UO could continue but its highly doubtful as bigger paying projects will require the resources. Its not a of question of profits alone but of an expectation of better profits.
The game play though is aweful. The sandbox MMO style for UO no longer works since 50% of the players are just bots farming and stocking vendors.
Dono I still love it. Lots of pvp daily on my shard atleast. Hacks and scripts are in every game. So don't make it sound like it only happens in UO. Take WoW for example, I gonna throw a wild guess here and say that 1/4 of their subscribers are gold farmer/bot accounts.
Yeah I could never figure out how so many former UO players used to jsut brag how great the game was because it was "skill" based but 99 percent of the players used scripts/cheats/etc to raise their skills?? My first experience with this game was horrible (ganked by 3 players literally 5 steps outside of Brittania)and it took me several years and a private server before I even wanted to see it again.......I was always a big fan of the Ultima series but Uo was very disappointing....i loved building houses in the game and mining but other than that I thought the game was pretty much awful.....It was basically a game for gankers and cheaters and I just didnt see the fun in it.......
The 100.000 figure comes from a Mark Jacobs interview a few weeks back.
But yes, I guess at the moment they just let UO slide without any investments until after WAR and then I guess they may reevaluate UO again.

Now that EA confirmed the new Star Wars mmo by Bioware, UO will be the last thing they have on their agendas.
So let me get this straight you have actually played for more than 15 hours on a regular shard , and have actually FULLY patched UOKR and played it for more than 8 hours in the last few onths?? , I'm guessing NO.
Besides even if UO was at , hmm , 75,000 active PAYING accounts the would = close to $900,000 a month and a little ove $10 million a year , i'm no EA finacial rep but one would think that is pretty profitable..
I think you should move on....

Actually you should take the 75,000 and divide by 5. 15,000 would be a more accurate number since most people still playing have at least 5 or more accounts. 3 or 4 of them are used for extra houses and storage.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
Nah, on average people have about 2 accounts (from startics polls), so should leave UO with about 25.000 western players.
But does not help that about 50.000 accounts don't really speak english and really reduce the amount of players you can communicate. (except if you japanese is any good)
God do I miss UO Pre-Ren.
I can't find an MMO to take it's place .... not 1!
WoW? fail.
AoC? fail.
VG:SoH? Alright, but not UO.
LotRO? Alright, but not UO.
Eve? Meh, too spacey.
I played from beta till about 2000 and I always thought that those who got ganked somewhat deserved it. I admit, I got ganked a few times. But if you have any common sense about yourself you know the bad places to avoid and you could just look at characters and tell who was a potential threat for PK. It's like real life dude, don't go walking down harlem like you own the place and then cry about it when someone robs you blind. It brought a real sense of common sense play that I really enjoyed. Most people on Atlantic were not PK at all, in fact most people would seek out PKs and kill them. You just had to have common sense, it wasn't for the kiddie generation that you see in WoW. They feel like they have the right to go and do anything in the game because they pay there fee and therefore heaven forbid anything happen to there character.
God I hope they bring back a real sandbox game with the updated content you see in MMOs today.
