Age of Conan Game Director Gaute Godager has written a Letter from the Game Director where he details Funcom's current efforts to improve Age of Conan, specifically focusing on bugs, stability, and performance.
Greetings fellow players.
While it has been some time since I last gave you an update, I wanted to touch base and let you know what we are working on at the moment and where we are going in the times to come. I want this update to focus on what is actually happening to the game now, what we have done, and also some of the reasoning behind our choices going forward.
As you all know we have been live for some seven weeks by now, and what a period it has been! While Conan has sold more and performed better than even we could have hoped for, we also know that there have been things we had to work on. I will not try to hide from this fact, but I hope you have seen our steady stream of improvements and additions, in fact, even more than I would have thought possible! I am definitively proud of the team and what they have done after launch, and I think everyone agrees that we are making Conan better, all the time. We are also keeping almost the entire development team ON the Age of Conan live team for the foreseeable future, meaning we can make exciting new content updates on an ongoing basis. Still, let me underline that our main – main – focus at the moment are bugs, stability and performance! I might not talk very much about the details here, but the frequency of the patches and their contents speak for itself.

I'll play it again, someday.
Is that letter meant to be some sort of joke or something? Or is he being seriuos? cant tell with Failcom and Aoc anymore, the whole game just seems to be one big joke.
I still play.
But they have a loooooooooooooooooooooooong way. Its a faster car, or a end game.
let me sum it up for people who dont like reading marketing jumbo...
"fluff, lie, fluff, lie, fluff, and one more lie"
He's trying to do some damage control here, and following the example of Mark Jacobs in trying to be honest. Sad that he didnt mention about what they are going to do with the classes....
By the time they are really ready in fall, it will all be too late....
RIP Orc Choppa
He sure talks about a lot topics that he "won't go into details about".
Feels like a knee-jerk respsonse to Jacobs' release about going with 2 maincities instead of 6 and being honest with the gaming public/fans. Perhaps a better move on FunCom's part would be to quit running their official AoC forums like a police state, instead of these weak press releases.
Playing the game, and having fun so far. I'll admit though, I haven't leveled very high yet, so I'm sure I'll run into less content, the higher I go. I'm not much of a power-grinder though, trying to enjoy the content as it arrives, so I look forward to the additions being implemented over this summer season.
It's also gonna be interesting to see the DirectX10 stuff being showcased in August.

If ever devs read forums they will learn one sharp sweet lesson...Dont ever try to be honest! learn your lesson well. you will only get slated for trying!
No amount of bug fixes will make that game an MMO. It's an xbox online game.
Darkfall Travelogues!
I'm enjoying playin but am concerned about the future of the game. They need to start making some of these promises a reality.
Great my son has an Xbox...where can i buy it from?
Was that meant to be an insult to the game btw?.
Dx10 content vs correcting performance issues and improving overall performance in the games current state. While I like the idea of what Dx10 can bring to the table, I'd rather the current game ran better and the bugs were gone.
Well, actually I agree with you, content should always have priority over graphics. My comment about the DirectX 10 were more meant as a sidenote of interest, as I already think this game is looking "good enough" at the moment. The downsides of AoC are surely in other areas.

*shrug*
In the end, IMHO, it will all come down to two obvious questions
---> What is the state of AoC when Warhammer is launched, and how does AoC stand up to Warhammer in terms of a fun, playable, eciting game --- at the time Warhammer is launched.
The answer to these 2 questions will probably determine a massive amount of what happens in the MMO industry for the next, like, year.
(just my opinion)
Yup. The game is simple, with heavy instancing, and beautiful terrain that you can never get to. Simple 3 button mashing to win at combat. None of the major promises made it to release. That includes spell weaving, drunken brawling, sieging, and even city building and crafting was broken for a while, and no DX10 content.
The game is designed to make money off the xbox, its barely an MMO.
Darkfall Travelogues!
Time Paradox...........
I swear i read that article last week.
Be paid for Beta Testing, don't pay to Beta Test.
Came out before Jacobs spin speech. This is like a bi-weekly info Gaute does, keeping current players informed.
AoC will be positioned as a strong game come fall, and will watch other mmo`s come out of the starting blocks like a snail.
There will prob be a big siege video over the summer once things are sorted out.
lets not forget there are 8 battle keeps per server ALL player made, yes with bugs, but there is potential there.
One of these days I will definetly go back to it, but anytime soon. I am a huge fan of Conan but that was not enough for me to overlook some of the issues with this title. I have to say I am a little dissapointed, nit with AoC but more with Funcom for putting it out in the state that it was.
Sinister Savant MMORPG Community
Everything is fine. We losing players by thousands each weeks. Our patching system introduce more new bugs then fixing them. Game stability since launch has been constantly decreasing. Everything is fine.
Frankly, I expected to see the damage control start a little sooner.
When you see the developers start begging you to "hang in there" or "give it another chance," you know it's time to move on.
Hey...I knew I had read that before... He has simply taken MJs letter to the WAR community and paste copied in AoC instead of WAR. nahh... j/k
Serious, nice with some feedback, sadly it isn't enough for me to return. Maybe in a year or two... oh yeah...I forgot then I'm busy playing WAR. By then they maybe have added in the capitals and classes they cut from WAR too... *shakes head in sadness*
I really love the Conan lore and world, sadly Funcom didn't quite get it right. But I will keep my eyes open, maybe some day.
The Second Day Vet
Ahhhhh... the "Things are fine, this game rocks "dev letter.
Would be nice to see a Dev not remind me of good ole Brad,or good ole Smed, or any of a dozen other lame devs who feel that spin, hype, and P.R. will get them thru.
Of course, maybe they are only doing what works. How many people bought the lines this time, and hence bought the latest crap in a box product to be sold this way ?
Maybe, just maybe theres a good reason they have no respect for you as a customer......let alone as people.....
...specifically focusing on bugs, stability, and performance.
I am pretty sure those are items that should have been worked on BEFORE launching the game.
It did. He send two letters before you know. One in May and one in June
Not that it really helped. That's something entirely different
