When you die, your character gets sent to a certain place (a safe place).
You then got two choices of what to do next.
1)Run back or ressurect back to the place you died and collect what is called your "spirit shard", which is the equivelant to not losing anything from your death. These spirit shards are visable to only you and will always be there at the point where you died until if you decide to earn the shard back like in 2)..
2)Kill mob's which gains your character "experience" in the progression of your characters development of leveling. Each mob you kill, 50% of the "experience" will go towards rebuilding that "spirit shard", so obviously your character doesnt level up so fast compared to normal.
Yeah basically when you die you drop 1 out of your 5 spirit shards.
Losing a spirit shard makes you gain xp slower. Noone can see the spirit shards you drop except you. You can run back to where you died and recover your spirit shard. Basically if you maintain your whole 5 spirit chards you will bne gaining map xp and other things.
Thats the basic idea of it anyways there might be some more conditionals etc that may be involved.
Thats so much better than mandatory corpse runs. I was looking into Vanguard and haven't looked at it again since I found out they REQUIRE corpse runs when you die. This sounds like a nice way to do it. I hated having to spend hours just getting back to a bad death deep in Guk or Sol B etc...
Yea, I like the death system too. Its not a big punishment and at the same time you don't want to die. The corpse runs on UO were horriable, you have to look around for a rez as a ghost and then look for body(all your items).
Well I'd rather have corpse run in game so basicaly we could corpse camp someone we dislike if we playing on a pvp server or something like that but sadly we dont know how pvp is going to work on everquest 2 however if its going to be the same way as everquest would be awesome to have em corpse run back while we corpse camp em

You get five spirit shards in total.
