Singleplayer RPG Mount and Blade.

Features Mount and Blade offers:

- Free Roam, RTS Fast Travel Like Action

- Blooming graphics, even though some textures are dated.

- FPS Blade, Arrow, Spear Action

- 100's of armor sets

- Castle Seiging

-  Classic RPG Skill Trees

- Ability to recruit people into your army, and level them up.

Why do i mention this game when related to DF? The action in it , as well as animation, is so simular, that if DF comes out anything like this game, I will subscribe for life.

Here is a video/trailer of the game, then you can compare it yourself to DF.

A demo for the game can be found here.

I downloaded Mount & Blade myself purely because it was said by one of the developers that Darkfall's combat was similar to that of M&B.

It's one of THE best games out there in my opinion. Very addictive and fun combat for a start, and everything else you mentioned is just plus-points on top.

M&B is one of those games that proves that gameplay is more important than incredible high-poly AoC/Crysis style graphics (though Crysis is a lot of fun too).

If Darkfall's combat is similar to M&B then there's going to be a period of adjustment for most mmorpg players since M&B has really unforgiving combat. There's no "grind away for 2 minutes" to kill or be killed in M&B. Just a few hits and that's it ... you're dead.

It makes you really cautious about doing stupid things that get you hurt.

EDIT - The M&B site and download is below if anyone wants to have a taste of Darkfall's combat.

Don't we all hope for a game like that?

Mount and Blade truely is an amazing game. Question, did you happen to buy M&B, i am tempted but didn't know if I should or not. This game is truely extraordinary though.

I did buy it actually. Once you get a few levels, some group members, a powerful war band and some really good weapons and armour and start to take part in larger battles against other lords, you get hooked and just can't stop playing. There are so many tactics and combat styles to use.

Armour makes so much difference in combat it's unbelievable. You're not invincible but you can shrug off blows that would have killed you as a newbie in starter armour.

If you do buy it make sure you download the latest version.

not to mention they have some of the most realistic castles I've seen in a long time...I love to visit castles just to walk around and see them. If only other games could borrow some of the architectural concepts they have used, it would be great. A castle in this game feels like a castle...

although the graphics engine's rendering is a bit...odd (I get the vague impression that it distorts the image when moving the camera around - especially at the edges of the screen, like using  panoramic lens).

Sad thing is mount and blade actually has more to show than DF does

  • GaladournGaladourn Member RarePosts: 1,813

    it's an entirely different game.

DF cannot show anything short of the complete game, being an MMO and such...

  • chokepointchokepoint Member Posts: 160

WOW, before it was released. Not the game itself, not at all, but the feeling i had when watching the WOW trailer before the game actually released is very similar to how I felt when I first watched the Darkfall videos.

Actually yes they can, it's called a beta, it's something all MMO and games go through. It's also coincidentally what the current release of Mount & Blade is, a beta. Not a complete game.

The team that made Mount and Blade is consisted of some guy and his wife and like 3 other people. DF has a whole team. If the DF team offers a multiplayer game just like this, I would sub instantly.
