another idea

player owned starports
allow players to build starports in non-un area ... thease player owned starports could be taken over by red guys and allowed to defend them selves {robot fighters would be a good idea for this} they could allow trading by yellow guys ... and a player could just stock pile and say what to use and what to sell ...

ok so it isn't that great but it's fesable

    This is a cool idea.

To expand: If a planet gets well established enough, IE. has enough improvements (you would need class 2 refinary, weapons, plant, whatever), they could possibly build a starport (this is the only way I think it should be allowed).  But... only one starport per system... and the corporation/individual who built it gets special discounts for buying/selling there.

It might also be interesting if starports could be more diverse somehow, like have some sell weapons or ships that you can't get anywhere else.  If a starport were linked to a planet, you could for example, sell weapons produced on the planet at your starport.  If the colony were destroyed, the starport would become independant.

Of course, that opens all sorts of other issues, like, can other players destroy your starports?  I'm not sure I'd support that idea.
