LF PvP / Limited Grinding

Zavy8865Zavy8865 Member Posts: 3

Just to start off,  I play games to interact against, as well as with, other players. Thats why i am looking for a MMO that is PvP heavy, and the grindfest/questing very limited. I played WoW for almost 3 years and just got burnt out, and Blizz made the game to easy, IMO. I tried Pirates of the Burning Sea for a month but couldn't get into it.

From what I have seen, Guild Wars and LOTRO both have PvP and a low, easily obtainable level cap.  I know some have trials and I will look into those very soon. Just wondering if anyone else has other suggestions. I have been following WAR for a half a year and will try it , but I want something to pass the time. So I have been thinking ...

LOTRO

Guild Wars

Fury

Age of Conan

DAoC

Please just give your 2 cents about these games, or others, that are PvP/RvR heavy and are not a oober grindfest.

Thanks!

From what I understand, LotRO is not your PvP fix. It is heavy PvE centric.

Guild Wars has fun PvP, although, it is arena/mission based PvP. No real world effects.

I played in Fury beta and thought it was interesting. It may be your cup of tea, it may not be. It is 'roomed' based PvP where you join a line of players waiting for a match.

Age of Conan has had its fair amounts of bad reviews and I heavily suggest you do research on this title before playing it. As far as I know, Funcom did not follow through on their promises and end game PvP is rather bad. I haven't played, but I've read up to 50 reviews on it - most of them saying the same thing: "What is Funcom thinking?"

DaoC is an old game, but by many, it is the best PvP MMO ever made. I never played it long enough to see the PvP, but as far as I know, those were the 'old days' and the PvP now isn't what it used to be. They are starting a new server sometime later this year and people are waiting for that to come out. You may want to check into that.

    HOWEVER,

You may want to look into Shadowbane. It is a pure PVP MMORPG with a very little grind. I'll put it this way, I reached level 65 or something in a day. It was awesome. PvP is a blast. I joined a guild (when I was playing) and the first day we were groupin' and pwnting people in the face. It is dated, though. Very much so. It is free as well. Won't hurt to try it out.

    Blessings,

    MMO migrant.

Its true that LotrO is a very PvE based game!

    But...

If you just want to PvP you can level yout character to 10 (should take 2 evenings maybe). And then you can create a lvl 50 monster character who can PvP from the start! (or you can level your character to 50 and start killing monster players)

The PvMP (player vs monster player) in LotrO is taking place in 1 zone called Ettenmoors and you fight over 5 keeps usually in Raid vs Raid combat!

Some love it, some hate it...

So if you dont want to grind and just PvP, download the 14 day-trial and see if you like it! (be prepared to die alot as a rank 0  monster thou..)

Fury is F2P so you can try that out  and I think GW have a free trial aswell. So check them out and decide for yourself!

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

Just wait a few months for WAR or Aion.

WAR is mostly about global warfare with PvP leveling (level by killing players as well as mobs), PvP quests, over 30 PvP scenarios, open-world sieges...

Aion will feature a global conflict as well with 2 player factions and 1 NPC one. This might turn out really interesting and original, depending on the quality of the rest of game mechanics. (the gfx & technical bits are certain to be top notch)

Sadly there is no game to fit your bill right now. That's probably why people are all so hyped out about those upcoming games. It seems that the "If you don't like to raid, learn to like it" age of darkness is finally drawing to a close.

    /edit

Oh and yeah.. GW is great to check out and toy with. However it's nearing the end of its life cycle and everybody's waiting for GW2 which is supposed to be a "real" MMO with persistent world etc. So... again we need to wait. /fiddles thumbs

Go with GW, it has everything you're looking for.  You can create a PvP only character that will automatically start at the max level, armor, and a set of skills. Plus there aren't any subscription fees, seriously it's an amazing game.

    Thanks for the timely responses.

Yeah, I am defiantly checking out WAR when it releases. But I may try one of the F2P games for a while. I just made a pretty sweet PC but nothing to play on it

    Thanks again!
