War will live or die on it's own merits, very little that Blizzard does will affect it. We will just have to wait and see if Mythic lives up to it's comments about learning from DAoC. If they have, War will be a success, if they have not, it won't.
Personally, I don't find this addition to Wow that enticiing. Some will, others won't. Just not a big deal.
Sorry to burst your bubble, WoW did spend millions on advertising, didnt you see any of those? but they put the advertisements out about 2 years after the game released. They did do advertising a shit load before BC came out.
As soon as I saw the headline regarding player achievements on WoW, I thought they were bought by Microsoft. >>
I guess it is a good addition to a MMO, especially for players who like the challenges. (which i hope are more challenging then just getting a haircut)

Why not SOE? After all their parent company's Playstation devision did copy MS with the Trophy system
I've played Wow quite a bit. The main problem with Wow, for me, is at the end game. Once you get to 70, you're choices are pvp, raid, or let your character grow stagnate. These cosmetic "badges" do zero to reinterest me.

but i hope WoW doesn't start having quests to obtain collectible trading cards in-game. ack.
