    I would say they can't co-exist.

I'm convinced in the year the new MMO comes out, the SW licence expires for SOE.

Let the poor SWG die, put it out of it's misery.

Lol agreed, let it have some dignity, also they  wouldnt want to have more then 1 mmo out there, they would only hurt their own business .

Oh, I think that's given - I think we can expect a SOE announcement that Classic SWG servers will be opening within three months.

My bet will be that it will.  $OE will be looking for ANY reason to try and convince LA that the licence is in "good hands".

$OE has GOT to know now, that they have NO prospective new players out there anymore.  All of their added content, watered down new (old) systems, combat re-vamps have been aimed right at pre-CU/CU vets, not new players or even their existing playerbase.  The new producer hinted at something "big" in the near future.  I know for a FACT that $OE had CU up on their internal servers, once before, thinking about a classic server, as I was told that very specificly from Lorin Jameson, himself.

Even $OE Austin should have figured out, by now, that the only way to increase subs is classic servers.  That's the only shot they have to survive the launch of a new Star Wars MMO.  OK, really 2 shots, slim and none.  But I still think they'll try it.

But......., it will definatley be CU, not pre-CU.

It would make sense if they did. But this is $OE we're dealing with. Making sense is usually not too high on their "to do" list.

This is a post I wrote about a month ago.

    "....While what you say does make sense and certainly fits SE's corporate personality - an equal mix of arrogance, obstinacy and stupidity. However, bearing in mind its past record, what is likely to happen is the following;

"Bioware and LA introduce their new MMO.

"On that day that happens, SOE announces that now, only now, has it 'listened to our loyal player base' and will relaunch Classic SWG Servers.

"These will run alongside the NGE servers.

"Neither versions of the game will have any Developers or CSRs assigned to them. Only when people have finally ground all 36 professions again will SOE reveal that it also did not implement Jedi in the newly restored Classic Servers.

"Poor service, huge bugs, really poor financial administration of subs will soon cause the final exodus from both types of server.

"Then, in one final last mad throw of the dice,  when there are less than 1000 players in total, ie. less than Matrix Online, will SOE announce a merge of both different games into one server. They will poll the remaining players and ask whether the remaining server should be 'Classic' or 'NGE'. The players will overwhelmingly vote for 'Classic'. SOE will then announce that the server will be 'NGE'. Three months later, the whole game will be closed down.

"UNTIL THE - REMEMBER, WHILE THE NGE IS MAKING $1 PROFIT A YEAR, IE. TWICE AS MUCH AS THE MATRIX ONLINE MAKES NOW, SOE WILL NEVER PULL THE PLUG, IF ONLY OUT OF SPITE."

I am afraid you will see those for all of five minutes once the new MMO comes out. Do you seriously think Lucas will let a FREE SW MMO compete with their new game?

As far as classic servers --- I still wish they would do it, but I think it is a moot point. Although I believe there is room for more than one SW MMO, I doubt Lucas people feel that way.

I really hope the new game is good. The only real tragedy will be if the KOTOR MMO is like a good version of the NGE :(

TBH I hope the game is good more for the vets here and current players than for myself. .  . the appeal to SWG to me was always about the Star Wars I remembered from the movies--- storm troopers -- vader -- tie fighters etc.

Anyway, back to the point, will they? I dunno, they should have years ago and did not so who knows?

SWG is different license than KOTR , they can co exist , same as Lineage 1 and Lineage 2 , same as Eq1 and Eq2. Lucas is still making his royality check on each sub and each station pass , he would be more than happy to keep it alive.

From what I understand , SOE is talks Lucas extended Star Wars worlds , material which happen during that time period writen and shown in Dark Horse comics. The sandbox died ages ago , it wasnt working , the game is still making money , the last report is SOE was making 310 million in 2006 + 3% from the Exchange server.

The station pass is still the best deal around , it includes a ton of games , maybe dying games but still playable games and Eq2 , SWG and Vanguard are fun for a few months at time.

I hate to be a doom-sayer but i have to be in this case..  I played SWG for about 3 years (or there abouts), roughly a month after the CU i joined and about 3-6 months after the NGE i quit..  I had great fun and with it being my first MMO ever played was very happy with what i found in the game. The Doom-saying i spoke of is the fact that it wasn't just the NGE that killed the game, yes they simplified things, yes they made it more "child" friendly but what killed it for the majority was adding Jedi as a chosen profession from the start.. Many people left because of this fact alone and over the following weeks many more left, leaving the servers dead..  No economy, no groups, no game..

With the rumour or announcement (not sure which as i haven't read anything about a KotOR MMO yet) i seriously doubt that SOE will be allowed to continue with the licence if it's given to someone else and as many others have said SOE screwed it up bigtime, they are not the only ones to blame though as i reccon LA had a hand in the changes that killed it as well.

The player base leaving was what killed the game, not just the actual game changes which caused the player base to leave.

the nge will be shutdown in a month or 2.

$OE has no hope of the nge making $1 with kotor online and it's pre-cu system.

so $OE now must shutdown the nge or roll the game back to the pre-cu.

I will be sure to post each and every game update for the years to come in SWG, looking forward to the hoth instance.

Make sure you attend this to let the devs know they don't have a job:

    http://events.station.sony.com/fanfaire/schedule.vm

Plenty of SWG events going on.

    i am planing on going

i bet sometime next week many of the nge events will be dropped and they will have a 1 hour meeting with the 15 people who play telling those 10 people as 5 of them will remember it is not an eq2 meeting and leave that the nge is going to shutdown

at that point i will laugh and ask if they are going to contact bioware to see if they can get hired cleaning tolets

the lol moment will be when bioware finds out that not only can they not code but they cannot clean a tolet right as well lol

I honestly do expect classic servers from SOE now. After reading a few posts on the O-Board and seeing someone give the same opinion.

With how SOE has treated their customers in the past and understanding the direction LA will allow SWG to go in They will in all likelyhood offer classic servers after a server merge, knowing full well that they only have a few months left on the license before shutting down for good.

Let's milk that troublesome "Vocal minority" while we can. Smed will have the last laugh at the vets expense.

Curious - if Sony does offer a "classic" server...how many of you are going to try to unlock Jedi on it?

they can co-exsist legally SOE held the exclusive licence for a SW mmo up until about 5 weeks ago hence why Bioware's was always so secret, however SWG will die horribly from now onwards

I'm 99.9% sure SOE will never offer a Pre-CU server or 2.  It's been 3 years since the NGE.  Their chance for it and recovering some of the players they lost came and went a long time ago.

Plus, even though SOE admits that the NGE was a mistake, they can't swallow their pride enough to bring back Raph Koster's Pre-Cu gameplay.

With Bioware doing a SW MMO, it was the last nail on the coffin for Pre-CU SWG coming out on official sources.  LA I believe would never allow 2 SW MMOs out there, regardless of Bioware's version being much newer.

Yeah, there is little to no chance of SOE adding a classic server at this point.  It would cost way more than it would earn.  I fully believe that the intent is for SWG to continue as a legacy game, one that sees a much smaller development investment than it currently sees.  I don't believe it will last very long after the bioware MMO launches since the folks sticking it out because of "Star Wars" will have another option.

As far as I know SOE has never shut down one of its P2P games.  They might screw up all their games really bad and all, but they do at least keep them running.

They have said the old client is completely incompatible with the way the game is now...  and as stupid as their management is, do you really think after all this time they are going to put that much energy into appeasing the vets now?  I don't.

Highlighted for emphasis.  Many know full well as I do that the main reason SWG still can limp along is due to the power of the "Star Wars" name.  We KNOW people stomach SWG because, "It's Star Wars."

When Bioware's SW MMO comes out, and especially if they do it right, the ones sticking to SWG due to Star Wars will be gone.

If you think SWG has few players now, imagine when Bioware's new take on the Star Wars franchise comes out.  My only wish is that they pay respect to the lore and bring deep gameplay.

Thtas why the old sith wars would be the ideal setting allows jedi as a class and is free reign on lore as Kotor 1 & 2 have generated a lot of the lore known of this time already

    Why does it matter?

The Vet*H8rs don't have a problem with SWG they have a sworn oath drawn in cyber blood to never pay SOE another penny, the point is mute.

I would like to state that in no way shape or form that anything I receive from SOE influences my opinion about SWG or their company. I’m pretty much a typical average player enjoying the game.

Well I would resub.  But I seriously doubt it would happen.  And just because I said I would be willing to resub doesn't mean I don't think SOE shouldn't go suck an egg.
