Advice - looking for thoughtful crafting/trading based mmorpg

For a change I fancy playing a crafting/trading game instead of combat focussed.

I enjoyed aspects of ATiTD and the trading/commerce in Eve Online, bits of the skill and level based crafting in Rizom beta were appealing to me as well. I don't mind a bit of beastie bashing, especially if the associated skills and exp leveling is cleverly implemented for character dev as well as providing cfafting mats.

any ideas folks?

many thanks image

While combat is quite boring, I enjoyed the crafting in Horizons.  However, the best game I have played as far as crafting to this point has been UO - but you have to deal with graphics, lag, and a game that isn't nearly as good as it once was.

AC2 just released Crafting 2.0 at the end of June. It is entirely different than the original crafting system it that you earn crafting experience points (cxp), totally unrelated to leveling xp. It is made so that a crafter specializes in a specific skill. Here is some good info on crafting in AC2.

Also note that there are no NPC's in AC2 for purchasing any weapons or armor, the market dictates the price. AC2 also has a chat channel specifically for trading.

Unfortunately, you might find lag in the game because of the high end graphics in the game. So a high end videocard and 512MB of ram is the very minimum requirements with the hi-res files. Thank goodness the high-res files aren't required to play.

AC2 has a 15 day free trial where credit cards aren't required and the hi-res graphics aren't included in the trial version. Just make sure you download the trial version and not the full version. If you do accidently install the full version, you will need a cd-key and have to register to play. If you like the game after the trial version, the toons you create can still be used in the full version.

Here is Turbine's website to get the free trial if you decide you want to try this game.

The crafting system in SWG is very good and could be great with a few tweaks. But the real jewel in SWG is the BE creature crafting. It is amazingly detailed and challenging. As many bad things as I have said about SWG, I decided to go back and try it out again (I quit my MCH/MBE before the BE revamp made it live) and I am having a blast. The PvP in the game still bites, the PvE game isn't a challenge with the insane armors and buffs, and any balance in the game has been thrown out the window (and they delayed the combat revamp until after their next cash grab...errr....expansion). But if you like a challenging crafting system that has you comparing recipes with others online and even keeping notes on what you are doing, then the SWG BE class may be just what you are looking for. I hope someone takes crafting this fun some day and adds it into a real game (or they fix the rest of this game). Unfortunately, the way things are going in that game, i think their idea of balance will eventually mean nerfing BE's hard so that they aren't the only class in the game which isn't completely broken in one way or another (well, it is a bit broken with overpowered low level pets being possible, but fixing that would be a good thing so it isn't likely to happen soon).
