That LA is still in the mix. They were the ones who pushed SOE to make an "easier to play" more "star warsy" game and to dumb it down so the lowest common denominator could get into it (much like WOW does). SOE is not blameless by any means. They should have had the fortitude to push back - but when your "boss" says do it, you do it
End of the day is that LA will either learn from their decisions in SWG or they will push KOTOR down the same path. They are starting off with the platform for one of the best games ever - but porting that to a MMO may be a challenge. Regardless, I don't expect to see this thing until Q4 2009 or early 2010. The monkeys might have taken over by then

It's not going to be a pre-cu. It's going be a new and fresh game. I doubt it will be as deep as old SWG, however, it will still be fun I'm sure. At this point, I just want something new...
you have a good point, but:
a. If nge came out in teh shape teh game is now, it would have been much better recepted
b. BIOware has already done sw games with lucas arts over there shoulders and they have been the best products sw has had. I dont think there is much to worry about here. Bioware is great at what they do, damn near the best. With the team they have in size and quality, and the money they have invested and the time they have already been on this( since 2005) im sure that we will soon see th outline of an incredible mmo
FYI the game is due next year!

Well...I'd be careful with that. That might be a generous first target date. Even if BioWare has been working on it since...let's say 2005 (The announcement for the new Studio dedicated entirely to the MMO was March 2006 and it mentioned they had already been working on it, though not for how long), I'd still think it more realistic to target 2010.
I'd be hoping for 2009. But realistically, I'm thinking 2010 earliest.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Couldn't have said it better.
Sorry, that's false. All LA said was, "make the game successful," the rest was SOE's idea, design, and implementation, which THEY pushed LA into accepting by misrepresenting what was wrong. LA didn't do their homework, and thought SOE knew what they were doing. Boy, was that a big mistake.
It's too late to spread the "it came from LA" myth. Dan Rubenfeld and other ex-SOE employees (as well as current SOE employees) have dispelled that myth. In fact, Dan STILL thinks the NGE waas a good thing, as does Brenlo (communications director of SOE), they just feel the problem was marketing and communication.
The problem was the reason the game was never successful was SOE's mismagememt. Therefore, the NGE, and the CU before it, which were merely attempts to cover up that fact, failed miserably.
As long as SOE is not in the mix, with their flagrant dishonesty and lack of consideration for the playerbase, as well as their poor management, it should be a great game.

I thought the NGE was influenced by Julio Torres?
I thought the NGE was influenced by Julio Torres?
that all depends on what you mean when you say "influence." I am sure solar flairs had an influence as well, as did Dick Cheney, but Jim Ward and Julio Torres said to SOE, "make the game successful," and the rest came from SOE.
Once the decision was madethe they dove into it together.
LA is certainly at fault for ALLOWING SOE TO DO IT, and for TRUSTING SOE, as well as for misleading everyone along with SOE, but everything that WAS the NGE was all SOE.
The former SOE Lead Designer (Dan Rubenfeld) STILL thinks the changes were not what was wrong, but it was messed up in marketing. At least the former lead gameplay designer (Jeff Freeman) has the decency to know what they did was unethical.
We now know much of what has happened, because the people who did it have admitted it. The rest is mythology and speculation AGAINST the facts. People who like SOE's other games are fond of doing that.

what "you" fail to realize is that we are only getting second hand info of he said she said and no one knows anything really lol. It may not even be a kotor MMORPG it may still be something else. We only know what info we are "fed" right now we are being fed information about some guy that said something who works for EA and we are in this case (cause it suits us) assuming its true. When we see something written in their own hand (in this case EA as they are the ones charged with making this game supposedly) then we will know for sure. Anyhow its a nice "debate" if only the angst was left outa it it would be more interesting.
If the news service is lying, it's false. If they are telling the truth, it's not. This is a report from a first hand source.
I feel it's a pretty safe assumption, given this and all the other evidence, that it's true.

I'm pretty sure LA would have said something by now if it wasn't true. Announcing a game based on their IP could get them quite upset I would think.
it doesn't matter anyways we now have a alternative to the nge, besides the duck. it will go like this
kotor mmo > ducks > NGE

Its probably true however at the same time we see inconsistencies like it has "an multiplayer element" written in the articles where these people are quoted. So honestly its probably true but we dont know for sure cause its a guy saying that "he said" and its odd that none of this was released by EA or Lucas arts etc why is something that is considered "large" in this type of industry let out in this manner. Press releases are usually done for more then one reason but right now we dont have something on a website owned by EA, bioware or lucas arts saying "the new mmorpg is KOTOR" etc we have an article written by a third party quoting him and in some cases calling it a game that will "have a multiplayer component". Well if this is so it may be an mmorpg but it may not be if its an mmorpg great but he just made a mistake by classifying it as something else. If he is wrong about it only having a multiplayer element he is possibly wrong about the quote as well. It smells fishy just like the disgruntled employee leaks. Its neither being confirmed or denied by those that matter and they didn't write it some other guy did. Its simply well "odd"
They also say its close to release (2009) well unless they already have somehow acquired all their beta testers or have no intention of beta testing the thing at this point it should be close to closed beta, but we have heard nothing. So the release date seems to be a bit bogus as well. No requests for closed beta testers nothing only silence.

Well we don't know for sure until it is in the past, but I think it's a pretty safe bet. I think the dissgruntled player leaks, and all the other leaks, more than likely fueled el presidente to make this statement.
From what he said it sounds like this is the most anticipated game, which WOULD make it an MMORPG of some kind. If it was just something like battlefront of halo, no one's gonna care.
They may have already had closed beta (I doubt it through), or be engaged in it now, or this MAY have been the letting the cat out of the bag before they start to invite people into the bag; also, they may well be developing the game differently, which would most probably be a good idea.
It seems to me that whatever it is, they had their first meeting way back at the end of 2005, when folks were talking about the super secret meeting with Vogel, walton and others, and they started working on it when Bioware started their austin studio. If so, a late 2009 date is certainly not out of the question, especially if they spent the money we have heard of, instead of trying to do it on the chap as they did with SWG.
Most of what we are hearing jives.
I don't see anything suspicious here.

All this speculation is hilarious.
If you read the interview he only agrees that the other project is the one everyone is refering to as KOTOR MMO. He never said it was KOTOR. It's a play on words. This has been twisted in other articles following the interview.
I'm still waiting for an offcial announcement and the actual working title of the game. I have no doubt that this is a SW based MMO, but the speculation on the web is uncanney. Everyone needs a chill pill untill we no for sure with an official announcement from EA or Bioware, or LA.
Why would anyone want to kill people's enthusiasm? To me that's just plain bizarre.

I'm glad I didn't have to point this out yet again. Most star wars games have been pretty good (for the time they were released) why do people think that NGE was LA's fault in stead of SOEs. Because smeed said so? That's a reliable source. Given looking at SOEs track record and LA's I think I'll blame the company who has repeatedly yo-yoed just about every game they have ever controlled.
My prediction is Bioware is going to make a great MMO but SWG vets most likely wont like it. ITs not going to be anything like the old SWG besides that its in the SW universe. I will give it a try cuz Bioware has to be my all time favorite rpg devoloper . I have not been disappointed in anygame Ive bought from them.

Maybe. they have stated that they have used tech that has greatly decreased there timeline, So 2009 might be a reality.
i agree. I think if they are not going in with an open mind, they will not liek this game. It wont be like pre cu
Yeah, LA was also in the mix when the original KOTOR came out, and that was amazing. LA is "in the mix" in EVERY star wars game, so the real determining factor is the studio who is making it.
Why would anyone want to kill people's enthusiasm? To me that's just plain bizarre.
I've heard this enjoyable conversation for months now. I'm just as anxious for a new SW MMO but i will show my enthusiasm when it's time. Share the electricity and excitment just stop the speculation.

I tend to agree with Fishermage on this arguement of whose at fault with SWG. Facts or no facts, it doesn't take a brain surgeon to look behind the media.
Right after around the time the NGE went Live, SOE did a combat revamp on every single one of their games, including EQ2. They even rehashed the Matrix combat; and guess what? Every game was nearly identical in how the combat unfolded. Sure, each one had it's own unique little twists, but the core was exactly the same.
So, here's the deal... Lucas may have bombed the prequel movies (and really that's a matter of taste and perspective for quality cinema) but I don't beleive LA is so in love with this idea that they can do no wrong with their IP's that they would go so far to completely ruin any of their titles willingly. The truth is, Lucasarts did in fact go through a period where they consistantly produced crapware for games. They know their IP's are better than that, and as a result, I beleive they really do want to make the best game possible, no matter what.
Seeing how closely LA worked with Lucas himself on a single-player console game (The Force Unleashed), I just don't see how people who put so much energy and effort into a game could willingly say "Screw the players... we want our money!"
I think SOE would do this though.... I really do. I've seen enough proof of this to know how SOE works. They buy up every single game they can get their grimey hands on (usually picking on the guys who are about to go broke and may never get out), do a "off the converyor belt" revamp to it, and then assign a minimal team effort into maintenance. In a perfect world, I would like to beleive they buy these games so that these developers who bit off more than they could chew don't drown in debt. The truth is, SOE is a scavenger, making millions off of some really telented, and really broke-ass developers' work. This is how the corporate realm makes money - with work horses who have no choice but to take the deal offered them... no matter how ripped off they're getting.
Has anyone brought up the fact that the CEO's statement could get EA into a ball of hot wax if the contract states no disclosure in the purchase of Bioware on all in house development projects? I have to say this is the worst announcement ever...but it is haiku.
Yeah I said this in a few posts yesterday , Not a single reply actually lol , I guess people really don't care as long as they got the info. I do think it was a pretty low move on his part , And he only did it to get EA a bit more hype at e3.Distasteful IMO.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
Ya really think that LA is going to go after the CEO of EA? Particularly when they are in the process of developing at least one major game with them?
EA has made it perfectly clear since they acquired Bioware that they want their investors to know about the KOTOR MMO. They've been leaking it like mad. This was just another opportunity for them to feed the buzz a little bit more without letting any real info out of the bag.
